Run 52 Upwind in the fog, and a buddy coming soon

Monday, November 28, 2011

I had a nice run in the fog this morning. That was a first. I thought it would be kind of fun so I made sure I got out before it could burn off. I did an 18 minute interval. I was shooting for 20, but my gut started to feel a little tight. And we went and got DH runnng shoes over the weekend, and he wants to try running for the first time tonight. I told him I would run with him, so I thought I should scale back a little and save some energy for tonight. I am not sure how it will work to run twice on MWF, but I figure I can get away with it for a little while at the start. I will have to adjust my work outs accordingly, and pay attention to my body. It is going to be time for new shoes soon too, and with double the runs it will probably hasten that, and I may need to put 2 pair into circulation. Goodness! Who would have thought that at the start of this experiment. DH and a friend say I look "firmer." Not sure exactly what that means but I know it is a compliment.

Run # 51 18 minutes

Wednesday, November 23, 2011

Today I did an 18 minute interval! The start today was pretty tough because I had a slog into a pretty brisk breeze, and it was chilly! I wasn't sure I was even going to make a 10 minute interval, but I just kept pushing because I knew I could, and the wind was the only difference. Then I did a 3 minute interval after that. Total time today, 21 minutes running and 10 mnutes walking. I just ordered a waist pack instead of a wallet because my wallet bounces so much on my shorts (one pair anyway) that it flies off. I wonder if I should have ordered one that holds a water bottle too, but people seem to think those bounce too much. Will have to figure out what to do with the water bottle next. Honestly, half of running is in your head, and the other half is in the gear emoticon

Maybe a running buddy...

Monday, November 21, 2011

Well, I think DH has decided to try running. First we have to get him some shoes. Then probably some shorts and a couple t shirts. The latter two aren't essential I know, but I want him to be comfortable. He is worried I am so far ahead of him, but I think I can add in some runs with him and still continue my running without any issues. I'll just have to pay attention to my body. I really want to be supportive of him if he wants to do this.

Run 50 Wow!

Monday, November 21, 2011

Well, I've just completed run 50. At this point I can run for 15 minutes at a time. Somehow I thought I might be farther along, but then again, I'm not racing anyone but me. I suspect perhaps I should push a little harder. Muscles seem to be the biggest issue. The longer the first interval gets, the harder it is to do a second one. That also seems to be the obstacle to a longer first interval. I suppose time and repetition will fix this. I think I have more energy, though it is hard to tell at 9pm. I definately have more stamina. The weight loss has been minor, though I think I've dropped about 8 pounds since July. The last 10 pounds is really proving hard. But I am sure I am healthier, so if I didn't lose any more I think I could probably live with it. But I think I can. I suspect as I can run faster and longer I will drop more weight. Today's totals: 21 minutes running, 11 minutes walking.

Run #49 More equipment woes

Friday, November 18, 2011

My mp3 player would not stay on for my run today! It kept shutting off after about 30 seconds. I think it may have had to do with orientation, and running, but I'm not sure. I reproduced it once at my desk afterward, but then it kept playing just fine in spite of my shaking it up and down. It kind of took the energy out of my run. I did 3 7 minute intervals. I can't seem to consistently keep my time up. I did a 15 minute interval on Monday, and again on Wednesday. I should have been capable of doing it again today. So much of this seems to be in one's head. I'm too old and tired for head games :-) Ah well. Monday is another run, and number 50 at that!
