Run 17, week 6 beginning

Today I ran two five minute intervals followed by two four minute intervals. Considering we had a guest arrive at midnight, didn't go to bed until after 1:00, woke to nature's call at 5:00, and I gave up trying to sleep any longer at 5:45, I think it went pretty well. The last interval seemed to take forever, but somehow it is easier to encourage yourself to keep going when you are in the final home stretch. Wednesday I will try and do 3 five minute intervals, hopefully a lot better rested too.

I've been doing this for 5 weeks now!

This morning I tried a five minute interval to see what it would feel like. It was okay. I don't think I could have managed three intervals of 5 though. After that I did 3 four minute intervals. If I thought Wednesday was a tough run I was wrong. It was a cakewalk compared to today. It was so hard not to stare at my watch during the intervals. Once I thought I must be near the end of the interval, and I was only at 2 minutes! But I did them all. I have to decide what I am doing next week. More 4 minute intervals? 5 minute intervals? Maybe I will try a mix, like two 5 minute intervals and 2 four minute intervals....

There seems to be something about Wednesdays...They always seem to be the hard day. Today I did 4 4 minute intervals again. The last two felt pretty long. Now the possibilities stretch before me. Do I go to 5 minutes next week, or try 5 4 minute intervals? O do 3 5 minute intervals? Do I increase interval and total number of minutes run? Or just increase the interval? Hmmm. We'll see how everything feels on Friday I guess.

Today I ran 4 4 minute intervals. It felt good. I have not had any knee issues today; everything feels good. This weekend I ordered a jog wallet so I can take my cell phone, id, and gate key more easily.

Today I decided to try a 4 minute interval and see how it felt. It felt pretty good, and I ended up doing two of them. Then I did 2 3 minute intervals or running after that. So I did 14 minutes of running instead of 15. Breathing wise it felt pretty good, but the extra minute seems to tax the muscles and they don't recover as fast. I left the boat earlier since I woke up earlier, so I did a total of 35 minutes today, 21 walking and 14 running. Next week 4 minute intervals. I am starting to have some knee soreness after my run, but I am fine when I am running. I probably need to start back on some additional exercises to strenghten my quads and calves. Will monitor very closely as I don't want to hurt my knees.
