Today I made my goal of 5 intervals of 3 minutes of running each. This makes my run time and walk time approximately equal for the first time. Hooray! I don't think I am quite ready to bump to 4 minutes of running next week though. I may try a 4 minute interval on Monday and see how it goes, but 3 still feels pretty challenging, and it isn't like I am in a rush to run a marathon. All I want to do is be healthier and more fit....okay, and maybe drop a few more pounds too :-)

Run # 9-Every day different

Today my goal was 5 3 minute running segments. I made it for four, and the last one was two minutes. The first two intervals felt pretty good. The third was hard. The fourth I started to get a little stitch in my side right at the very end. This is the first time this has happened. The last interval I just didn't feel up for finishing. Maybe I should have pushed, but it was hard to breath and my muscles were feeling pretty tired, so my form was getting sloppy. It seems like every day it is something new. One day the lungs can't make it but the muscles are fine, the next day breathing capacity is fine, but the muscles just can't do the push. There is always some little thing...but I keep on going.

I saw a hare in the park on my run today. He ran right in front of me.

    I am so proud of you for continuing on, even though other forces are trying to get you to quit!! Isn't it fun to see wildlife? I went on a hike with my chihuahua and he tried to chase down a Doe and her fawn that ran across the trail in front of us!

Run # 8-Added another minute

I added another minute so my running intervals are now three minute long. This means that my running time and walking time should now be equal. Of course then this morning I lost track and shorted myself one running interval. But still, I can run for a whopping 3 minutes! And I am not too horrible breathless at the end. And so far I am not having any issues with sore knees, feet, etc. All seems to be well.

    That is awesome!! Keep it up!! If you haven't already, buy or check out the book, Run Your Butt Off. It has some really good advice for people who are trying to run. Actually what you are already doing is some of what the book suggests to do. Don't look at it as a 'whopping' 3 minutes. Look at it as 3 minutes of accomplishment. There is A TON of people who can't even run for 3 minutes. Your doing great!!!

    Great loss! Look at that pound of margarine or butter at the store next time you are shopping and you will see that is a great loss.

Run #7-That was a hard one

I woke up with a bit of a headache and a little stuffy from allergies this morning but I went for a run anyway. Today was the hardest day so far. Right about 1.5 minutes of running I would feel like there just wasn't enough air and I would barely make it to two minutes. It was all I could do not to stare at my watch and count the seconds. Then the recovery time walking just felt too short too, like I barely recovered before it was time to run again. I've been reading up on breathing techniques but it didn't seem to help much. Also, it is really hard not to be a heel striker when you are feeling tired. It was just a tough day.
