Adventure Vacation

I will not be on Sparkpeople for several weeks as I am booked on an 'adventure vacation' on Canada's east coast.

My trip involves three days guided tour in the capital city, St John's, followed by circumnavigation of Newfoundland and tour of Sable Island which has recently become the 43 Canadian National park. Will be on the lookout for whales, ice bergs, seals, many pelagic and land birds and other flora and fauna. There is also an emphasis on culture, history, art and music. I will also spend a few days in Nova Scotia after the boat adventure.

I have been a member of Sparkpeople since 2009 and have made healthy changes:
1.Walking 4-5 days per week – at least one hour per day
2.Balanced diet – carbs/fats/protein
3.Increased fruit and vegetable servings

However, although I lost a couple of inches from my waist and from my hips, and I now can walk 8 km with Nordic poles without being completely exhausted, I was not seeing a weight loss.

When I saw my doctor for my annual check up in May, she suggested I weigh myself every day and cut back on calorie intake until I saw a weight loss. Shortly thereafter I read an SP article about using ‘calorie differential’ as a tool. I started on June 1.

On June 20 I recorded a two pound loss in SP and am registering a loss of another three pounds (but will not recorded in SP until I have maintain that loss for a couple of weeks – slightly crazy I know!).

I am eating food I really, really like that is balanced nutritionally and within my calorie range, have cut out snacks, reduced alcohol consumption and am continuing my walking routine.

A new year and so a new start:

- be positive,

- make healthy, calorie wise choices,

- exercise,

- stick to 'the program'.
