I HATE going to Crossfit

Tuesday, July 03, 2012

Hate it. I get online.. check the WOD.. and immediately start thinking of ways to convince my boyfriend we shouldn't go.

But -- knowing we should, I say nothing and sluggishly drag myself in.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE leaving crossfit. I am NEVER sad I went once I get there. The music is going, people are sweating and its just a great time.

I'm so glad I FINALLY found a type of exercise I love to do, instead of something I dread, hate all the way through, and then sort of feel good I did something for myself.

Cutting up the "gold" card

Friday, June 29, 2012

Ahh, I remember that day. The first day my Starbucks gold card arrived in the mail. The way it shimmered and glistened with the joy of many iced soy coffees. *sigh*

Tomorrow, I'm cutting up my gold card.

Why not today, you ask? Well, I still have 2.50 left on it and its money I've already *spent*.

I made this decision a few days ago.. looking at my finances, I need to get things better under control. I realize I have to take out some student loans to go to school but I could definitely be making payments to them instead of racking them up and spending my money elsewhere. Plus, it is a calorie eater. I don't binge on juice drinks. I don't drink soda. Why then would I waste calories AND money on a daily Starbucks? There are so many better ways to get my morning energy.

That being said, *sips her coffee* I may miss this ritual but hopefully I won't miss the extra few lbs it keeps on me or spending the 80.00/month in my budget.

Hello, better life! Goodbye, Gold card..

    Good for you.

Everyone has his or her essential splurges, as well as areas where he or she is willing to be frugal. I gave up expensive coffee shortly after I started working at my first real job, after law school, and realized how much my daily coffee break habit was costing me (and this was over 20 years ago, long before Starbucks). I drink coffee for the caffeine, and if it tastes mediocre, then I'll just drink less of it.

Similarly, when I lived in Paris a few years ago, I gave up ordering soft drinks in restaurants because they were so expensive.

I do have my splurges, however. I buy my lunch most days because it's tasty and healthy and I just can't be bothered making a lunch and bringing home the dishes.

How I failed at Burpees

Thursday, June 07, 2012

I'm 5'4 and 226 lbs. I tried to do burpees yesterday for the first time -- I started going to crossfit and I was assiged a.. well I call him my babysitter, to show me how to do the moves and down-scale the moves we can for my needs. When we got to burpees he said "Theres no way to downscale a burpee." Since I couldnt really do them, I ended up spending about 10 minutes just throwing myself on the floor, getting up and throwing myself face down again. In fairness to the kid (he was really nice, my babysitter. Totally not judgemental, super nice..) I dont think he knew anything to tell me that would make it easier. He didnt really explain that it was a squat, to a plank-push-up to a squat. He just sort of hopped all skinny and lithly - like a sprite, and said "do this". So while my half-frog babysitter hopped about in a near prancing fashion, I threw my body on the floor and started trying to find ways to protect my knees and face from getting full on smashed. Today my assignment to myself will be to find a way to modify burpees so that I can keep up with the rest of the group.
:)

BTW, the video you posted really helped!

I have definitely "modified" the movements now to be something I CAN do. Its certainly more time consuming but its better then *throw self on floor* *get up* *throw self on floor* like a sack of flour. Ha!

Burpees are a challenge for me as well. The whole change in altitude is really tough to do quickly. I do about 1 for every 4 on the DVDs I follow. I figure if I can do them slowly with good from I'll work up to doing them faster, just like walking.

Found it! It was part of our challenge in February. It has modifications. I still could not do them because of my knee and hip. Good luck!

I am 5' 2" and 150 or so pounds - and guess what? I can not do them either! I remember seeing a modification though. It was part of a challenge on one of my teams. I will see if I can find it for you.

JLTFI- Defined Goals - HA! I figured out how to make a blog :D

Tuesday, January 26, 2010

What are your realistic goals regarding your weight, fitness and/or
nutrition?

I want to feel better every day. Right now I wake up and I'm tired. I'm often feeling rundown and lack the energy to do the things I want to do. I want to lose weight and eat better and take better care of my body so that I will have the strength to have fun again.

What behaviors or actions do you need to change in order to achieve these
goals?

To make this happen, I have to exercise and eat healthier. The diet journal has been extremely helpful - seeing how many calories I eat every day is extremely motivational. I also like sticking to regimens, so having my goals right in front of me has been a blessing.

How can your goals be measured (or steps you need to make) so you can see
the progress along the way? (example: Go to the gym 4 nights per week,
increase my water to 64 oz per day, bring snacks from home 5 days per week,
limit out to eat to once per week..etc)

I am tracking everything I eat. I am keeping track of how much water I drink and making sure that my body stays hydrated. I never realized before how little I was drinking!

How would you feel when these goals are achieved?
Amazing! :D I will be very happy to lose some weight before the next time I see my mom. I know how much she wants me to be healthy.

What is the realistic time line/schedule needed to achieve these goals?
I want to set smaller goals for myself so that I am able to achieve them. for right now, I want to goal to be 185. I'm currently at 222. If 2 lbs a week is reasonable, then it would take about 18 weeks. I need to lose more weight than that, but for right now that is my goal.

Who can you Be Accountable to and share your progress with for these
goals?
To all of *you* :) Also, my roommate is helpful although she doesn't like working out and the woman can down icecream in shocking amounts.. :) haha
