Someone is watching you!

Who? Family member, co-worker, friend, stranger.....
Where? At the gym, at work, at home, at the pool......
When? During your lunch break, during workouts, during the day....
How often? Daily, weekly, monthly.......
Why? Inspiration, motivation, jealously, envy......

I know that I am doing this for me, but as I was running last Sunday I thought to myself, "Do others expect me to succeed?" Hmmm.... "What would happen if I stopped running these laps besides being happy that my body can rest?" Would it be detrimental to anyone else?

People that we never know are watching us. Yes, some want us to fail, but some want to see us prevail and be happy. Being happy for you could be reaching your goal weight, feeling less stressed, sleeping better, walking a mile, dropping a size, or simply being proud of yourself for the progress you have made.

I am glad that so many of you have allowed me into your life. I enjoy reading about what you are faced with or what thoughts are running through your head. I am always pulling for you to push through any adversity because I know you can do it!

When people are looking at you, it is best to get caught doing something GOOD!!! Let them see you push through that mile or eat a healthy lunch. Let them see you walk past the vending machine or down a cup of water! It my be prompt them to do better. EVERYONE has someone watching them. If you think you don't look in the mirror. Yes, you are looking and it would be nice to catch yourself doing something good would it not?! Here is to a week of us catching ourselves doing something GREAT!

I have a story to tell you all about last Sunday's run, but adding it to this post would make it longer than I would like for it to be. I guess that means I will be posting again this week!

    Love this! It's so true. People are watching, but not in a sinister way. You never know the impression you leave behind or how one simple act could inspire someone else. I want to be caught in the act - the act of making a change for myself and getting healthy.

    Thanks for sharing, I love this. You're absolutely right my mom and my daughter their watching closely but supportively :o) And yes others are watching for one reason or another, but I'm mainly doing this for me.     Your blog reminds me of a song from the 80s - from Ray Charles Jr and Michael Jackson! Can you guess it? :)

More than anything, I'm watching myself. Only a handful of people know that I'm running for a couple of races, and only a handful of those really seem to notice and encourage my progress. But they (the ones who don't care) aren't the ones that are going to feel great at the end of the race. They aren't the ones that are going to have a healthier body. They aren't the ones that are going to inspire anyone else.

So I'm in it for me.

    I have a lot of people who are rooting for me to do this, so I know they're watching! Then I'll have those people who are looking for me to slip up, and they're really quick to point it out.

But I know that above all I am watching me. I want to see what I can do!

This week's blog has been inspired by Drake, a Canadian recording artist. I have been listening to his album the past two weeks. Although his lyrics have nothing to do with the healthy journey I am on, they speak to me and I use them as motivation. Here goes.....

Do you ever feel like no matter how hard you push yourself, that you are not seeing the results that you want? Do you think you can actually reach your goal weight? You remember when you weighed ....? You ever look at old pictures and wonder what happened? Oh, that one dress or pair of jeans that used to fit you perfectly? You may feel like time is not on your side or that you are not getting any younger. Have you fallen off track and not wanted to get back up? No confidence? No motivation? How about we throw in the towel and call it quits? It's OVER!!!

NO, IT'S NOT OVER! First off, I do not think that having these thoughts is bad, however, we should not dwell on them. If anything, we should use them as motivation. Sometimes your "good enough" may not be good enough, so I implore you to try to "at least" be better than good enough. If you have fallen off track, don't worry about getting back on, just STAY ON once you get there!

What are you afraid of? Success?! I don't know about you, but I WANT to be successful! Sure, there will be resistance, but you have to fight through it! There is no turning back for me! I refuse to go back to an unhealthy life---if you want to call it a life. I'd rather choose the road less taken, if it means I will be happy. You are too young to be feeling this old! So, tell your "old self"...."If you think I'm going to quit before I die...DREAM ON!" It is time to make the skeptics into believers. Admit it...Yes, that may include YOU!

"What am I doing? What am I doing? Oh, yeah, that's right I'm doing me and I am living life right now! I'm in it till it's over....But, it's far from over!"

    You're awesome! I feel exactly what you are saying here, I will NOT let myself start the fall down that slippery slope back to the unhealthy way of life. As you said, if you can even call it life!

It is amazing being in control of my body, and accomplishing things that I never thought would be possible. You are an inspirational force, keep it up man!

I think you are exactly right. I am only a few days into my new routine but I feel better already! Now I know that I definitely am not turning back! All I had to do was some tweaking and I'm well on my way. I find myself LOVING my cardio days more than my Insanity days! But don't get me wrong, Insanity is still awesome. However, I look at the work outs as more beneficial of me gaining muscle than losing weight. But I am perfectly fine with that since I want to do cardio and build muscle at the same time!

Thanks for keeping us all motivated here. I'm sure it's really helping a lot more people and not just me! Keep up these wonderful blogs!!!

Nicholas you are wise man. Thank you for being so positive and straight forward. I am guilty of being my worst critic. I can give all the good and positive advice in the world but when it comes to taking it, there's a total disconnect. I'm getting there but it is a process.

Just like something my pastor said in church Sunday "If you believe in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior you're Saved, but that belief alone does not make you holy." What I took from that is that almost everything in life is a process. You have the end result in mind and you know where you want to be eventually, but getting there takes persistence, time and patience. You can never give up.

MIRACLEINSIXTY -- I like that line in that song as well.

I agree with you that we should use it as motivation. I see my old fat pics and tell myself "never again"!! That's why I work harder, try harder, dig deeper!! Can I do more, probably and Thanks to this blog, I will do just that very thing!!

The easy button does not exist when it comes to being healthy. Whether you are trying to lose weight, eat clean, complete your first 5k, or just start running, it will not come without some hard work and determination. There will be obstacles and possibly even setbacks along the way. Do not be discouraged and do not let those setbacks turn into a scapegoat for your success.

Your body deserves to be healthy, You deserve to feel great and look great on the inside and the outside. As you motivate yourself daily to continue to track your food, log those steps, drink that water, finish that cardio session, or push out that last repetition, think about how many people you inspire. There are a number of people that have decided to start this journey because of your drive and willpower to stick with it each day.

So many of you have encouraged me and provided support in ways I never thought imaginable. Your kinds words do not go unappreciated. I truly thank you and look forward to our encounters. I have not only gained Spark buddies, but I have gained a family for life.

Remember to measure your success only by yourself. When you look in the mirror smile back at yourself for a change. Things may not be where you want them to be, but I am sure progress is evident. If you are not happy with yourself, how do you expect others to be happy with you? Happiness is contagious, so spread some positivity and disdain all negativity in your life. Trust me, it shows.

If it was easy, everyone would do it! I am asking you to make the impossible...possible! Defy all odds and be victorious!

    Wow, what a great blog.

Thanks for being so inspirational! I definitely feel a lot better after reading this. The thing with this Insanity program...it's tough, it's hard, but I'm DOING it! There are a lot of people who were intimidated about this program but then decided to give it a go after seeing our comments and progress. That makes me feel great!

I am now more determined than ever to get to where I want to be. I can't wait to meet my goals and accomplishments!

Thanks for all of the motivation throughout my Insanity experience and I'm glad you've been there from the beginning!

I figured I would start blogging at least once a week, since it is a good way to let others know what I am experiencing in my world when it comes to health and fitness.

My group is finishing up insanity on Thursday after the Memorial Day holiday, so Round 2 will be in the books officially! Woohoo! Was it easier this time?! No, in fact I pushed harder this time. The first round I lost over 40 pounds and the second round over 20 pounds. It works! I am ready to try Asylum!

Yesterday, I started this push-up program from this book I checked out in the library (7 Weeks to 100 push-ups). I made it through insanity, but I still can't do 100 without stopping. Don't you just love level 3 drills?! Push-up jacks?! Power push-ups?!

Today, I started running, so we will see how this journey goes! I may not be the fastest runner, but one thing I do know is that I have heart and determination. I WILL NOT QUIT!

    Congrats on completing two rounds of Insanity and blogging! So what's this pushup program? Do you do pushups every day until you can do 100 non-stop? I can do about 20 "real" pushups right now but it would take me more than 7 weeks to get to 100 I'm sure. The challenge does sound tempting though.

You spirit reminds me of the sun peeking through the clouds after the rain. Thanks for the motivation stay positive.

    I haven't even finished Insanity yet and I KNOW I'm going to sign up for Asylum!! I seriously can't wait for it! Any idea when it's going to be released yet?

Congrats on completing your 2nd run through with Insanity. That's so awesome!

And about the running - don't worry about how fast you can go. It's all about pacing yourself! I used to run quite a bit a couple of years ago and I lost 15-30 pounds just from jogging on the treadmill at a steady pace everyday! It's a great work out and even better when you've got your fave music to listen to (I always have my iPod going)! Great job on everything and the running is going to be great too! Keep up the good work!!

    You're doing so well! Congratulations!

You're a dude, so you prolly won't have problems (upper body strength!) but I did the hundred pushups challenge thing and "broke" at 63 PUs. That has kept me from ST for over a month and will continue to...I've just started my ST w/o wts -- seems silly but I'm focusing on moving chi...

Point is: go for it BUT make sure you do all of little, boring physical therapy types of exercises for the rotator cuff to keep it all safe/ supported. I'm no wimp (for a little girl!): I tote 50lb feedsacks, run full-sized chainsaws and was pressing 42 pounds (I know that's NOTHING to a guy!) when I added the pushups thing W/O the other strengthening exercises. Wish I'd known!
