Life, And Hanging In There!!

Sunday, June 03, 2012

Often with life we get taken up with what is going on around us. Aging parents who need additional assistance, work, home etc etc. Somewhere in there we lose ourselves to only so many hours in a day. We hang in there and do the best that we can. So if you can't tell I'm struggling, but I am still hanging in there. I may not be able to check in as much as I have been, by the end of the day I'm tired not only physically but mentally. Have challenged myself over the next 30 days to check in every day even if it is just to log my food and activity. Miss all of my spark friends but choices have to be made and logging into the computer after the long days lately just hasn't happened. But keeping myself healthy has to get stuck back into my life or someone will end up taking care of me. Weight loss isn't at the fore front right now, but healthy is. So take care! Talk more soon!

You know, your blog has taken me back in time to when I was care giver to my mom. After I moved her in with me, Life was not my own. I had very little thoughts about my own life, as I made sure she was comfortable, fed, clean and medicated. Life became even more topsy turvy when she became a dialysis patient, as she was on the peritoneal dialysis. This is one where you hook up a catheter 4 times daily to drain and fill the peritoneal cavity. It takes an hour each time start to finish.

I gave very little thought then to exercise, and my own well being. It was enough to get through each day.

Life happens! We do the best we can at any given moment. We are here for you, whenever you need us. hugs

You always need some "me" time or else you get run down and out of sorts...and that doesn't help anyone. I have been where you are and will be praying for you. The first step is in realizing what you already have. Don't feel guilty for doing the "maintenance" work it is just as important as the rest.

Make sure to take good care of yourself and stay healthy. Try to steal some me time to recharge your body & spirit. Sometimes, this feels so frivolous, but after a little me time, I can accomplish so much more.

I will be thinking of you spark friend,
Julie

Back From Vacation

Monday, May 14, 2012

Well back from vacation, and facing the facts that didn't do so hot the last week. But today is a new day and the start of new week. Missed all of my Spark friends but had made up my mind to take a break from computer and telephone except for one work related teleconference.
Vacation was a combination of yard work, small hiking trips, and fishing. We got our garden planted, yeah. DH is finishing up with the tomato plants today. Took several small hiking walks (still not released to do more so still trying to be patient). Then the best was a day spent fishing. Beat the pants off DH 14 to 6 hee hee. Caught 13 Northern Pike, three of which were 32 inches and one.
Back to eating right and not eating non-stop it's amazing how easy it is to slip back into old habits.

Somtimes when I see people fishing out on the piers (saw a guy catch a gar-weird looking fish), that it might be fun to try it again one day! Wasn't good at it at all the couple times I did try. Glad you had a nice time on your staycation. Staying at home sometimes is just as nice, that is what we have been doing the last few years. You rest more and get things done!!! emoticon

Sounds like a great vacation! I LOL'd at the fish count. Good for you!! It sounds like you stayed active during your time off, so even if you didn't eat optimally, you still did good.

My stepcousin also fishes. A friend of his caught a Northern Pike but it was 25 inches. Plus they caught some smaller fish.

Vacation times always seem to be a time when we all fall off track and slowly slip into old habits if the vacation time is longer than a couple days! All that aside, I hope you enjoyed the time away from the computer and phone!

It always does a body good to get away from these things time tio time, in my opinion...and yes! today is a new day! So now you will have a renewed spirit to pick up the reins and continue your battle to the healthier you! emoticon

The end of a 100 day Challenge

Tuesday, May 01, 2012

Woo Hoo the end of the Healthy Living 100 day challenge at work with a total of 8 lbs lost. The goal was 15 lbs, but still not bad for this old girl, ecspecially since for 6 weeks of the challenge the Dr shut down my physical activity. Portion Control/ Portion Control!!

If it wasn't for this web site and what I have learned here and for the support of all the people who stop in and say hi, I probably would not have lost the 8 lbs, I would have given up. So thanks all!

It's Raining But Went Walking Anyway!!

Friday, April 27, 2012

Took Thursday and Friday off this week thinking I would spend it outside!! It started raining mid morning on Thursday!! Oh well I've been reading alot! There was a little break in the rain looked at my dogs and asked do you want to go for a walk and they were ready to go!! Got out the rain coat and rain pants, loaded the dogs up in the car. And away we went. As soon as we got where I wanted to walk it started to rain but oh well we're covered. It smelled so good, nice and fresh. The dogs had a great time running, these are the same two dogs who the last couple of days have given me the look are you nuts we're not going out there it's raining!! Walked about a mile, trying to work back at it slow and not over due, I just want to keep going.

Had a beautiful drive back, stopped and took pictures of choke cherries blossoms, sand cherry blossoms, some pretty yellow flowers, a blue flower, two turkeys and some mule deer. Thought I was going to share them in this blog but for some reason can't get them to down load so will have to share the pictures later.

emoticoneven with a threat of rain and in the rain- you got out there! emoticonSounds like you all had an enjoyable time!
I love walking as you know! I had been sore from our walks, Wednesday and Thursday, and yesterday I said, I feel like a walk. DH suggested this one place and I am not a fan, because you have to drive back on a 3 mile dusty road to get to the trail by the ocean (that is the best one)-you have to wash the car afterwards (ugh). So, I gave in and was I so glad, it was so gorgeous and felt so good afterwards! Just to smell the ocean air, see the boats going by, people out fishing, birds, -even the sky was a pretty blue. I hope you do post your photos- I know sometimes if I switch between google chrome and internet explorer when that happens, it will work for some reason, on one and not the other sometimes.
Have a nice weekend!! emoticon

Where did the energy come from?

Tuesday, April 17, 2012

AAAgghhhh this like the 3rd time I have tried to share this somehow I keep deleting it grrrr. Ok one more time. I will stay positive here.

The last month or so I have not had much energy both physical or mental. I have lived totally by the mantra "fake it until you make it". Then all of a sudden Monday I wake up and its there. Got up did an upper body work out with out force, stayed up beat and had energy all day at work even though it was a day from, you know those kind of days. Came home mowed the lawn. Checked in here with you all. Today woke up again with that energy, still feel energized to night. Now I know I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth. But where did this energy come from? I don't feel like I've done anything different, was it a blog, an article, a comment by one of you? The question is still there, but I will take it. I continued to have faith that I would find it. I will continue on this journey with all of you because I know that in order for me to continue on with all of the dreams that I have I have to get more healthy and stay that way!!

I know sometimes just being on SP will get me up from my computer and do exercise-has happened many times. Very inspiring site! Whether support from an SPF, an article, blog-it happens!! We all need the support and encouragement! So you keep going, even if you don't feel like it every day! The key is perseverance! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Sometimes, something that someone says on SP will click for me and it's like someone flipped a switch. Sometimes, it's spending time in the sun.

Ahhhh, probaby that's my answer, for the last week there hasn't been much sun here or sleep.

Good for you working out! That will keep you going. I hope you will be able to go for one of your hikes soon. I love hearing about your hikes.
