Salinas Valley Half Marathon

Wednesday, May 12, 2010

My goal was to run the Bay to Breakers this next weekend- but I ran into a conflict(My sister is graduating from College) & couldn't run it so I've committed myself to the Salinas Valley Half Marathon...I'm excited & looking forward to this....Below is the info if anyone in the area is interested as well.

Race Info

Saturday, August 7, 2010

Start & Finish
Race-Day Registration Opens: 6:30 AM
Race Start Time: 8:00 AM
Start Location: Soledad Mission, 36641 Fort Romie Road, Soledad, CA
Finish/Expo Location: Pessagno Winery, 1645 River Road, Salinas, CA
Awards Ceremony: 11:00 AM

The Salinas Valley Half Marathon begins at the historic Soledad Mission, established in 1791 as the 13th Alta California mission, located in the heart of the Salinas Valley, made famous by John Steinbeck in his novel East of Eden. (More about the Soledad Mission: Monterey County Convention & Visitors Bureau—Soledad Mission). The course takes runners and walkers slightly south from the Mission, then west toward the Santa Lucia mountains—well known for the vineyards of wine grapes used to produce award-winning pinot noir, chardonnay and syrah—before turning north along the base of the mountain range and winding over gently rolling hills to the west of the Salinas River.

On this extremely scenic course, runners and walkers will breathe the cool, coastal air from the Monterey Bay as they pass fields of verdant row crops and vineyards, before crossing an idyllic finish line among the vines at Pessagno Winery.

Runners and walkers start at the Soledad Mission at 36641 Ft. Romie Rd. and head south for about 1 mile before turning west on Private Road 2 toward the Santa Lucia mountains. At mile 2.4, runners and walkers turn onto Foothill/River Rd. and proceed north along the base of the mountains to Pessagno. You may download the course map here.

The course is USATF Certified (certification # CA10002TK).

Parking & Busing
Parking will be available race day at and around Soledad High School, from where participants will be bused to the starting line and spectators will be bused to the finish at no cost. Buses will leave the school (a 10 minute ride to the Mission) beginning at 6:15 AM, and the last bus will leave for the starting line at 7:00 AM. There is no available parking at the starting line area. After the race, participants and spectators will be bused back to the school from the finish/expo at Pessagno Winery.

Roads right around the Mission will be closed to traffic race morning, and those that are open may be restricted. Participants that are dropped off near the Mission should expect to walk some distance to the start. While the race is in progress until 12:00 PM, Pessagno Winery will only be accessible by River Road from the north, and parking at Pessagno will be limited. Sweats will be transported from the Soledad Mission start to the finish at Pessagno Winery.

Packet Pickup
Runners and walkers may choose to have their bib mailed or to pick it up at the starting line area on race day. Goodie bags and t-shirts will be available to all registered participants after the race at the expo.

Having one of those melt down days.

Wednesday, February 17, 2010

My Grandmother who is 83 was the victim of Identity Theft & Elder abuse at the hands of my manipulative brother and his wife! Yes they are "Druggies" METH...
My brother struck a "deal" with the DA and only served 42 days in jail- the wife only served a day!! The debit that is still outstanding will not be paid by my brother and his wife!!!!As that was not included in this deal..
Plus the $$$ my grandparents had saved- over $550,000.00 is now gone-
I received a call from one of the many credit card company that is still owed money today and they are now going to pursue legal action against my grandmother for the debit left- just this card is over $37, 500.00--The jerk on the phone didn't care that the debit was not created by my grandmother all he cared about was when he could get the $$ and close the case- if she couldn't send money, they would be putting a lien on her property!!! Which is the only thing she has left!!!
Just having a melt down and really want to EAT!!!!!!!!!! So instead of choosing to eat, I thought I would just get it out of my system this way! Not as good as eating a piece of candy or bread!!LOL
I know this will pass things will get better it is just the journey to get there!

From our Local Paper:
"37 year old Rodney Louis Pief is this week's "Most Wanted" by the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office.

Pief has brown hair and hazel eyes. He is five feet eight inches tall and weighs approximately 187 pounds.

Pief is wanted on felony charges of elder identity theft and burglary, misdemeanor charges of theft, possession of drug paraphernalia and disorderly conduct. "

Just hard for me to understand how he & his wife are out there living their life sponging off someone else and my grandmother is stuck with all this debit and "crap"- To top it off he only served 42 days in jail-what a crock!!!!! UGH

Is there anyway you can press charges for the debt on her behalf? Sounds like the judge wasn't very thorough and his ruling could be overturned and revisited. I'd talk to a lawyer or have your grandmother talk to a lawyer. Even easier if he hasn't finished his 42 days in jail, but I'm sure there's something that can be done.

The rampant Meth use in this town makes me really sad, even sadder when our "justice" system works in their favor. I'm sorry to hear about all of this. But know that instead of emotionally eating, you venting here IS a great move.

Deep breath, talk a lawyer, I'm sure there's a loophole that can be used to really see some justice here.

That's AWFUL! I am so sorry. Good for you on having the will power to vent here rather than eat... I'm thinking I would want to do some boxing if I was in the same position. There has to a be someway to make this right, so unfair! Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Wow. I am really sorry, life just doesn't make any sense sometimes. Be strong, somehow things will turn around for you and your grandmother. In the meantime maybe you should take a boxing class and pretend the bag is your loser brother. emoticon

It's really special when someone takes the time to encourage your efforts rather than subject you to temptation. Nice people.

Grieving for my sons good friend.

Wednesday, September 30, 2009

Yesterday my oldest son lost a good friend in a car accident!!

Soulsbyville Resident Identified As Hwy 108-Via Este Accident Victim
Sonora, CA -- The Tuolumne County Coroner's Office has positively identified 22 year old Emmett Broaddus of Soulsbyville as the victim of the multi-vehicle accident this morning on Hwy 108 at Via Este.

Broaddus was driving his red Acura westbound when he failed to realize the vehicle in front of him was preparing to make a left hand turn onto Via Este.

In an effort to avoid a collision Broaddus veered to the right. He then lost control of his vehicle which crossed over the center line into the eastbound lane where it was broadsided on the passenger's side by an eastbound 1999 Toyota Tacoma pickup.

The Acura ended up in a ditch and Broaddus was pronounced dead at the scene of severe head trauma.

This marks the second and third traffic related fatalities of the year near this intersection this year.Written by bill.johnson@mlode.com
