almost over

Saturday, September 22, 2012

well my vacation is almost over.. got one more full night off.. time to get back to my sleep routine... so taking afternoon nap when i get done here... set my alarm for my normal time to get up.. and try to stay up most of the night..
i did pretty good last night on sleep.. b/f and i fell asleep on sofa last night after our seafood buffet dinner and the long ride home.. woke up after 3half hours... then switched to the bed for another 4hrs..
this has been nice relaxing time off... i accomplished some reorganizing in house.. and was out in shed most of morning. i had to quit... ran out of a ertain size box... giving lot of craft stuff away.. and wanted certain size box to transfer stuff into... i had plenty of trash boxes in which i filled..
my birthday week is winding down... we ate out 3x this week... steak wed... brought half home for another meal... i had my yearly cheesecake.. thursday not so good.. after going to the farmers market he wanted the arches fish and dbl ch-burger... so i got a fish.. ate enough fries to taste. and he drank my soda.. friday evening was seafood buffet... again i had enough fried clam strips.. scallops and shrimp to taste... the rest of the meal was steamed crab legs..
back on track today.. i told b/f that i was not celebrating anymore birthdays..

until next time.... everyone stay safe...

day 2 vacation

Wednesday, September 19, 2012

day two of my mini vacation... sleep pattern way off... no alarm... but only sleeping 2-3hrs at a time.. i tried sleeping this afternoon... late and was up 3hrs later... yesterday i had a friend suggest a few things to help me sleep... i do have sleep apnea and use cpap machine... but only when i am sleeping in bed... sometimes i nap on sofa.. without it.... it was also suggested that i sleep i n a dark quiet room... no phone... i have a phone in bedroom but ringer is off.. we do have cell phones but not in bedroom..i use eye mask to keep things dark... the only thing i still have a problem with is keeping the tv on at low volume.. it drowns out the little noises bird likes to chirp/talk around 3pm.. neighbors with noisy cars. .. lawn mowers.... boyfriend use to work nights also.. so he knows how important my sleep is.. the only time he wakes me up is for a phone call from a doctor... heading to bed now... and will try to get a good night sleep for a change...

I am so like you...sleeping 2 to 3 hours at a time...most days that's all I get. I am suppose to use the cpap machine but I end up not using it....because I wake up with my nose frozen. I love dark places but end up falling asleep during the day...and the phone keeps me up...along with all the movement in my house. Vacations are not any better. I just came home from a week in Florida...hoping I would get some rest. Unfortunately I ended up having bad dreams each night I was there. Since I have been back home the dreaming has left me thank goodness. I wish you the best of luck.

sleep journal

Tuesday, September 18, 2012

well today is a good day to start my sleep journal.... i am off t onight... so my sleep/wake up times are off.. almost 2pm and still up... catching up on computer things... messages in here and watching burn notice on cloo...
for the most part i wake up on time... around 8pm every night.. the only nights it varys is when i get woke up suddenly and can't get back to sleep.. then i might sleep another 20 minutes... my time to get to sleep does vary... sometimes i get home from work late when i get home i have dinner to eat and lots of things on here to do... i have alot of things to change to get a better days sleep.. my biggest thing is sleeping with the tv on... i have always done that... i started that many years ago... low volume drowned out other noises both inside and outside my house..

jus got a comment on this blog... sorry i forgot to mention that i work nights... and have no choice but to sleep days.... and that makes it harder to get a good sleep..

Working nights... such abuse to your body. I worked 12 hr night shifts for about a year and I was either at work (eating) or asleep or waking up (to eat). I ate before I went to bed, if I woke up, at work, you name it, I found a reason to eat. During this time, I fell asleep on my way home more than once, or had to pull over to sleep. I totaled my car hitting a tree less than 500 yards from my house one time. Looking back, I believe Sugar was my culprit, also wonder if I had sleep apnea then (I just got diagnosed with it a couple years ago). I hope a sleep journal works. I used to fall asleep with the TV on and now looking back, think it just kept my mind active. Wonder if ear plugs would be a better choice and maybe a fan. Certainly the phone needs to be silenced. Just some thoughts. I also used to read murder mysteries and would dream and dream. So, now since I've chosen not to have TV (too expensive), and don't read murder mysteries, I play some solitaire on my phone (with the lights off) and when I get "dozey" I turn off my phone. Sleep so much better (but also on CPAP)... I hope you can discover some "tricks" to get adequate sleep!!!

I can't imagine trying to manage a work schedule w/o sleep. I hope your sleep journal helps.

Betsy, Have you had this schedule for quite a few years? It must have been hard to get used to. . .I used to be a really good sleeper but not so any more. I'm lucky to get 5 hours sleep a night and sometimes less. I've never heard of a sleep journal. . .is that your idea to see your sleep/awake patterns? Not getting enough sleep can slow down our losing weight so it's important to get good sleep. Wishing you restful sleep and waking up with lots of energy. Take Care and let me know how the Sleep Journal works for you and maybe I should try it for myself. Take Care.

Love,

Jill

Betsy, good luck! What time are you usually able to get to bed after you get home from work? I tried working nights a few times and I could never sleep. Some people prefer the "turned around" schedules and you must be one of them. LOL! How do you handle the days off? Do you manage to sleep at night then, or do you even try? I would be so mixed up! You're doing great, though!! Hugs, Jeannie

Good luck on keeping your journal. Seems like I can never keep them up to date. Don't you just hate it when you finally get into a deep sleep and something happens to wake you up? I have a really hard time getting back to sleep whenever that happens. Hope you have a good day's sleep. Take care!
