Changes in the Air

Monday, September 29, 2014

My mother-in-law has been living in a care center attached to a hospital. She has been receiving excellent care for Parkinson's disease. This has given my husband & I peace of mind, knowing that she is getting the best possible care. Unfortunately, we were informed this weekend that the care center is closing. We have less than 2 months to find another facility. My father-in-law is almost 76 years old and is dealing with his own health issues. My mother-in-law needs round-the-clock care for all the issues associated with advanced Parkinson's. Our options seem to be group homes or nursing homes. Anyway, hopefully, we'll find a good living situation for Mom.

I have my mom in a private care facility. she has dementia I don't know if they take parkinson patience. I can ask if you like. I know they have room for one more lady. They take care of up to 4 ladies.

Oh I hope everything goes smooth. Sometimes a social worker will be able to help you with options. Hey seem to know about everything that is available. A social worker is helping with my mom's placement right now. Good luck.

How about assisted living? M mom is in assisted living. She has dementia and diabetes, heart condition, renal failure and high BP. She uses a walker, her laundry, meals, meds, side trips are provided. Other patients have more serious problems. We opted out for dialysis because she was 88 in July and did not want it.

If either she or Dad were veterans, she is eligible for a monthly help with care from V.A.. It also applies for him or her for in-home care. That does not apply if/when she is in a skilled nursing facility. Mom gets it every month because Dad was a Navy vet.

Road Trip

Saturday, September 27, 2014

Tomorrow morning we'll be heading to Baker City, OR to visit my husband's family. My mother-in-law has Parkinson's disease so we'll be visiting with her at the care center and then taking her to lunch. My stepson, his wife, and 3 year old son will be traveling with us. Sometimes, it is nice having a change in routine. I will need to stretch and ride my stationary bike before we leave in the morning.
Have a great Sunday! emoticon

Exercise Frustration

Saturday, September 13, 2014

Why can't I be more consistent with my exercise goals? My goal is 30 minutes daily to include stretching and some type of cardio; usually walking and/or riding on my stationary bike. I've been successful with the 10 minute daily challenge but my progress seems to stop there. I know I can do this! Maybe if I take baby steps... so this week I will aim for 15-20 minutes daily. emoticon emoticon

Start with a smaller number or smaller frequency and then gradually increase. You have to make adjustments to your current routine and so it takes time to get it right. Also, make sure it is an activity you like to do. ST and abs are not something that I naturally inclined to do. So I schedule it for once a week eventhough I'd really like to do abs 3x a week but I say something is better than nothing.

I was having trouble with this until I found tony hortons p90x3 30 minute exercises . it comes with 16 different tapes or exercises I am never bored and love to work out now so much so I am going for round 2 . Who knew I could do 13 weeks of anything . Key for you is to find something you love to do and look forward to . I love the idea of adding a little more each day. Are you walking with an ipod ? music helps the time to go by faster. hugs

I enjoy walking outside. I like to see what everyone in the neighborhood is up to but I sure don't know what I will do come winter. I don't really like very many fitness ideas. Do you like what you have been doing? I find it makes a big difference if I like what I am doing.... anyway best of luck, I know you will find your groove. :)

It's a on going thing. I found out I love walking early in the morning. Now it's a habit. I walk fast with my dog before sun comes up and I do it for a hour. It's so peaceful then and really sets me off got the day. So do what you love and it won't seem like exercise. !

Maybe a goal of 5 extra minutes sometime during each day getting you half way where you want to 30. Add 5 more down the road. Remember that doing 10 minutes consistently is emoticon emoticon

Don't forget to pat yourself on the back for the 10 minutes you are doing!!

I agree with you. Take it in smaller bites of fitness. DO 10 or 15 minutes at one time and when you can do another 10 minute set. It all counts and 10 minutes is a workout. Don't expect more of yourself than your mind will accept. I am just trying to get going myself. 10 minutes, we can both do that, I know we can. Keeping pushing,

Smaller goals that you know you can reach is a good idea. And once you have started on the 15-20 min you can stretch it out to 30 min but only promise your self to do at least 15 min :-)

I use that tactic with cleaning the house :-)

I love my 10 minute goal. Focusing on smaller goals actually helps me so that most days I go over my goal and feel like I accomplished them! Keep going :) you can do it!

Art in the Park

Friday, September 05, 2014

Tomorrow my husband & I will be attending Art in the Park. This is an annual tradition for us. We met for the first time at this event and we were married in the Rose Garden which is centrally located in the park. Hopefully, we can stick to our food plan while there. So many temptations await!
