Plugging away

Wednesday, August 15, 2012

The people who know me will not be surprised that I wasn't able to complete the 3- 10 min sessions that I had planned to do. Oh, don't get me wrong, they are very supportive with my goals. I guess the old saying 'best laid plans...' is still in effect. I probably do more calorie burning than I imagine. What about vacuuming?? Now that is quite a workout or can be.

I didn't get my food scale yesterday as I thought I would. It should be here today and hopefully before lunch. I have had this craving for fish tacos and I want to be as accurate with my calories as possible. The perfectionist in me popping out. If I can't be totally accurate I don't consider that a failure. My thoughts on that are: when one wants to be perfect at something and then is unable to reach that perfection then they have set themselves up for failure thus giving themselves the excuse to not follow through with their goals, the "well I can't do that so I'm not going to try anymore" type of thinking. That is keeping a defeatist/negative attitude and if one wishes to be healthier one must accept 'setbacks' vs failure.

I spent just about all day yesterday investigating all the great things here at Spark People. There are so many ways of maintaining support to help me reach the goals that I have created. One of my goals is to not eat in front of the TV/computer, I'm finding this one extremely difficult to accomplish. Oh, I won't change or abandon that goal, just need to figure out a good way of achieving it. I don't have a TV anymore, I watch the shows that I like on my computer - free that way. I have had the habit of eating while watching a movie/tv show and this is what I need to break. I figure if I eat someplace else than I won't have the tendency to eat more than I should, but, the fact is I only eat what I put on my plate and don't go back for seconds - although sometimes I would like to emoticon.

How about eating on your balcony/porch/deck? IN winter months, set your table with candles, maybe take turns with a neighbor or relative a couple times a week for dinner to eat with each other.. you can still use your scale, maybe recruit a newbie into Sparks!!
how about a picnic in the park ?

I'm still here lol

I made it through my first day and have come back for more. I was searching the fitness stuff and couldn't really find a video that I (being a baby to the 'E' stuff) gave me a low impact workout to get me started. Well I did find an YouTube video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSZj19AUU5I&
feature=relmfu
that is a 30 minute workout and is a Low Impact Cardio for Beginners - just what I need. Since I want to begin slow and not injure myself I have broken it up to 10 minute sessions at a time. WOW, the 'E' stuff 3 times a day, people who know me will fall flat on the floor in an unconscious state. I have always reported, to anyone that asked me what I do for 'E', "I'm allergic to the 'E' stuff"...just break out in this horrendous sweat. emoticon

I have coming in the mail today a scale to weigh my food. Well, I'm trying to be good here, emoticon! My problem at the moment is that I just went to the grocery store and stocked up on my supply of food and of course it contains items that I probably shouldn't be having. Trying my best to work it in and will make some major changes the next time. It is difficult for me to get to the store, I'm legally blind and do not drive, so I purchase enough food to last me a month. I really hate grocery shopping...you sure wouldn't know it by looking at me emoticon.

I have found the senior life style page and have really enjoyed looking at all the fun stuff to do and read. They actually have a Spark Team in my town, what a great thing to find people MY AGE in MY AREA that I can hook up with.

Well, it's about lunch time and I want to finish off that Chicken Penne Pasta Salad that I made yesterday, got 3 meals off it. See you all later emoticon

When I started Spark People I associated the "E" word with all of the four letter words! I hope that it works for you like it has for me. I exercise for 3 hours a day,
every day and enjoy it. It is all low impact as I am too old to start doing anything fancy, just being able to move suits me! It's nice that you have a team of people your age in your town, that gives you the opportunity to mingle and get to know them.

The start of a healthier life style

Monday, August 13, 2012

I just recently came upon the SparkPeople website and have been so motivated to lose weight and maintain a healier life style. I really like the idea of having all the information that I need to achieve my goals all in one place.

Bad me: I haven't been doing what I call the "E" word for just plain lazyiness. Have been using the excuse that due to my Fibromyalgia and the constant pain that I expierence that I just couldn't do that "E" stuff. This and not eating very healty has caused a great deal of weight gain.

Good me: I just can't stand the weight anymore and the continued medical issues. Last night I started searching for ways to improve my health and that is when I found Spark People. Today I started the "E" program using the free videos that are available and then documenting that - short - workout so that I can keep track of my progress. I will start searching through the recipes and pay closer attention to the nutritional aspects of what I am putting into my body. Decided on a goal of 50 lb weight lose.

I had better get started on my new day.

Welcome! I'm so glad you found SparkPeople. It really does make the process of loosing weight possible - even working in the "E" stuff. I haven't been at it too long, but I can see me staying at it for the long haul. Lots of great Spark friends does the trick!

Thank you for the encouragement. I have had fibro since 2002, high blood pressure and cholesterol, macular degeneration just to name a few of my unwanted conditions. I should really know better about maintaining a healthier life style, but, just have been to lazy to do anything about it...until now. But, it is never too late to get on the right track.

Just getting started with this web site is a huge task in itself. Made a plan to do one or two things at a time.
