Committment will reap rewards!

The successful person makes a habit of doing what the failing person doesn't like to do.
- Thomas Edison

This morning we were greeted with a success story from Spark. The young lady had committed to a weight loss and exercise program and was doing well. Then when I visited her sparkpage, she was waffling and mad at herself for giving up and not being consistent. But she was working on getting back to it.

So I googled Commitment and found 20 Commitment quotes online and chose the one above from Thomas Edison for todays musings.

If you are successful at weight loss you have made it into a habit to choose wisely and healthy food alternatives. If you fail, its because you didn't commit and stick to it. It's as simple as that. I haven't lost weight because I haven't made the commitment. I know what to do, it's just doing it that is the problem.

On the good news though, I have committed to get better organization in my home and have been attacking piles of stuff daily. Today the trash can was overflowing with pricelists from 2008 and 2009 and other such odd paperwork that wasn't necessary anymore. Expired catalogs, client folders that were never going to buy or those who had moved away, etc. And of course those that pass from this earth. In 27 years I have had a few of those as well. I've made a lot of progress in the organizing area but still a ways to go. It feels so good. Who would'a thought?

Now, I just need the go on a diet peptalk to myself and lose that 30 pounds that lingers on. Last night I tried on some blue jeans and I guess I need to make them into a tote bag instead of keeping them around in hopes they will fit again. I need a new pair that fits. I have one pair with a stretch waist band that my sister gave me that was one of her fat jeans. And here I am wearing it. And it is a little snug. So I think I will cut those jeans up and make a couple of tote bags to sell. I got a new pattern recently for such a bag and so that will be my next project.

I do need to clean u and organize my sewing room. I have a little tiny space where I cut fabrics and my sewing machine space and the ironing board that aren't covered with fabric and scraps, etc. I trip around the room from spot to spot. Come on, I can do better but I'm saving that project for a rainy day. Maybe Saturday, when hubby works. Let's commit folks, me especially.

I am committed to my weight loss, but more to get healthy. I am making progress. As you are also.
I do not have a sewing room set up, which is one reason why I have not started some projects that I want to do: Make a T-shirt quilt for my youngest son.

I have self commitment to eat clean and exercise, now to apply that commitment to other areas of my life.

Thanks for sharing, keep up the good work.

Today, our electricity went out in a storm and so I sat at my desk and went through some piles. Got rid of a lot but I still have piles so I'll have to do one paper at a time and create a file if I need one. Going through the file cabinet to dump stuff is another task I need to do. Just do it, why don't I. As soon as I finish this, I'm cooking lunch and then maybe do some sewing or take a nap. Business is slow again so who knows. I hope October brings some appointments.
The woes in the economy and the not so good news coming out of Washington have stopped people from buying unless they really need something. Hubby and I are no different. We aren't spending money we don't have to spend. Just had a handyman come and repair a hole in the roof and fix the front door. These things happen. The soffit by the chimney had sagged creating a small space so that had to be fixed. Good thing because it just rained!
One of these days I'm going to get back onto the weigh loss wagon. Seriously. Just do it Carol! Later.

Yes, everywhere people are pulling in their belts because they just don,t know if their jobs will still be there for them. It is hard for the businesses. Good for you for using this opportunity to regroup, reorganize and refocus. And start the War on Piles!

Come on now, hop back on this wagon!
There are a lot of us repairing things we used to replace. And like you, I don't see it getting better for a while. We are fortunate to have everything paid for and both have good jobs. There are so many who do not.

Oh, I' ve got plenty of work to do and piles to attack but hey, I don't feel like it. I guess if I had a teenager with chores to do, and he didn't feel like it, it wouldn't set well with me. I fizzle out in the afternoons. Maybe tomorrow I will catch up on things I need to do but today is procrastination day. Ever have those? I've been out already and gone to a doctor's appmt and saw a client and checked e-mails and took care of some things. We've had a handyman here working on some repairs and he just left so I'm relaxing. Thinking of quilting and moving some things around. Later.

So I got a call today from Office Depot telling me I was overdue on my account. Only it wasn't office depot, it was another company where office depot credit cards are held. Since I don't remember receiving a bill, of course I didn't make a payment. I was really irritated because this person wanted me to give them account info over the phone which of course I won't do, especially since I didn't even know that office depot didn't handle their own accounts. So, I went to office depot online to try and make a payment and couldn't find any information on how to do it so I sent an e-mail chat to a rep online. During the conversation, the rep sent me the 800 # to call. So while I'm still online, I called the # he sent. Turns out he had transposed the last 4 #'s and the connection I got was a porn site so now I am paying for a porn site connection. Finally got it all straightened out but honestly, I hate bookkeeping and I should have taken the day off.

I have had one of those lazy days also. I slept until 10:00 this morning. I haven't done that in a long time. I did piddle and get some laundry done, but that is about it. I guess we all need those lazy days sometimes. It lets the body recoop. emoticon

I've joined numerous teams and unjoined them as well but I have 2 current favorites here on Spark. The first and long standing team is Quilt and Lose. I've done lots of quilting since I joined last year but not so much losing. The other team I like is Orgnized Life. I stumbled onto it while I was perusing the team menu and have enjoyed it so much as it is helping me organize!
So I'm asking you today, What's your favorite team and why?

I joined Quilt and Lose as a novice quilter and I have learned so much from my quilting Spark friends. Like prewashing your fabric, which I do half the time. I've also enjoyed seeing all the beautiful quilt photos that are posted on Spark pages and have posted a few myself! I'm currently working on a quilt for my 7 year old grandson and nearly finished. We are going to see him and his brother in October so maybe I can get it quilted by then.

The other team I like and have recently joined is Organized Life! As soon as I joined, I established the AAPT Club! Attack A Pile Today club and this has really taken off! I have plowed through numerous piles in my home and continue to enjoy doing so! Who woulda' thought? I have my eye on 4 piles today that I would like to attack so hopefully I will do so. I also have a list of work items to do so I suppose I need to so that first. Business is business!

So share your favorite teams and I'll check'em out! Later.

I haven't had the opportunity to check out the entire list of teams yet, but it looks like there is something for everyone! I can't wait until I can wrangle up enough time to take a thorough look and make some choices. There is so much here, something for everybody, that's for sure!

My two favorites are Quilt and Loose for many of the same reasons that you like it and Viva Vancouver the local Spark team for Clark County Washington residents.

The two teams that I enjoy the most are the following:
The slowest looser, which has a turtle as it's Icon. Encourages slow loosing which is healthy.

The other is Christian Women with Depression. I am both a Christian and one who deals with Depression in my life. I have found oodles of support from the other women there. There is also a subset of women studying a women titled "Made to Crave: Satisfying Your Deepest Desire with God, Not Food" by TerKeurst, Lysa. It is a Bible Study type book by a woman who has struggled with her own issues related with weight loss.

thanks for asking. I am probably a member of too many teams, but I have also dropped out of some, and added others.

I usually find new teams on my friends pages.

I was busy the last few days so didn't get to blog. Z is for zucchini and y is for yam. X doesn't exist I dont' think. Looked online and didn't see one so if anyone out there knows an X fruit or veggie, let me know. This has been an interesting journey through the alphabet with the fruits and veggies. Several of you have asked if I have tried all these things and the answer is no. We don't try things that are foreign to us if we haven't been exposed to them in everyday cooking. I am an adventurous sort though and I do try different things when presented with them. On to other things I guess!

I have finally decided to get my life in order. I joined the team Organized Life and started a sub-group called the AAPT Club. Attack A Pile Today! I have been devoting myself to cleaning up piles of stuff with the help of my friend, Cassandra, who is a professional organizer and coach. She was over yesterday and I plowed through a lot of stuff in my office and have a box filled with stuff to throw away. Why am I keeping price lists from 2009? I can actually see the floor in front of my bookcases. There is more to do but I am at least encouraged. Much more to do!

I even started a blog organizeanddecoratoe123.blogspot.com where I'm baring my soul. Cassandra and I were busy in my office dumping stuff and filling the box. We felt so good. Then we walked out towards the foyer and the Fed Ex man had left 3 big boxes outside the front door! She instantly knew what I go through. I get rid of something and something else appears. These boxes were filled with some accessories and a lot of packing trash. I found places for most of it but I wondered why on earth I had ordered this stuff. It is a new program for accessorizing with my company. So this stuff has to sit around my house until I cart it over to a client's home for a presentation. Did I need it? Probably not, but It was a weak moment.

So I'm in the AAPT Club. Today is Saturday and I'm going to attack some piles around here. Later.
