DOING WELL!

Thank goodness August is over! Sept starts football season and I'll be walking to and from the stadium at FSU! Also, maybe business will pick up some. It has been quiet but I've been busy with fabric and quilting and other stuff.
Payback happened this week. My husband was let go in April and the woman that replaced him was fired last week for not doing the job! What goes around comes around.
I've managed to make healthy food choices and not snacked so that is good. I'm on a quest for a few more points to get to 700! Highest points for the month for me! Later.

SETTING GOALS!

Yesterday morning I got on the scale and it wasn't pretty. And I'm not sharing! So I determined that I had to do something so yesterday I ate sensibly, following the Sonoma diet as much as possible. I got the new cookbook and it has some fabulous recipes! The ones I like the most feature interesting ways to cook veggies. You can get really tired of veggies the plain old ways. So this morning, I got the e-mail from Spark entitled Are you Prepared to Reach your goals? I took the quiz and got labeled room for improvement. Then I read some of the related discussions and realized that I didn't have any goals. None, Nada. Oh, I have the I think I want to lose goal but that is it.

So I am setting some goals. This morning I walked with my friend Pat and she gave me a pedometer. There is a fitness challenge at the local Air Force Base of 10,000 steps in a certain time period. This morning I walked 5500 steps with her and went onto Spark. Sure enough, there is a step tracker so I have signed up for that. Just waiting to hear back from her as to how long I have to complete this 10,000 steps.

i never did a visition board but I have pics posted on my bulletin board of a very thin and much younger me for motivation. I would still like to weigh 160 lbs so that is a goal but I really need an eating goal as I eat too much and too often. It feels good having a goal. Now I need to set some goals to clean up the house. Hubby thinks I am a hoarder but that is another blog. Later.

I totally agree about setting the goals - it gives you waypoints to aim for, and a method to track your progress. It's the best way I know to figure out where to tweak your plan, find out what you need to change, which habits to keep, which to lose, etc. Report Inappropriate Comment

TODAY'S THE DAY!

Todays' the day I start doing something about something. Whatever something is. I feel like cleaning out the refrigerator and planning a menu for the week. I can do that. I also want to quilt and clean out my van and maybe do some bookwork for the buisness. I need to pay some bills. I have a lot of need to dos!
I miss my doggie. I miss her wagging tail and smiling face when we open the door when we come home. She would hear us drive in and the garage door opening and would be sitting there waiting for us. I miss not hearing her bark. I miss her visiting me in the bathroom and having to trip over her as she would lie in the middle of the floor. I miss reaching down while sitting in my chair and not being able to pat her. I miss the option of taking her for a walk.
I do however, envision her in heaven, playing with Polly and Joe who went before her.
There is something though about the freedom of not having a pet. I can plan a trip away for a few days and not wonder who is taking care of her. Sigh. What to do.

If we are to have another dog, it will just happen. A dog will show up and it will be the right thing to do. Not going out of my way to get one just yet.

Today's the day I want to think about my diet. To plan a meal and keep a healthy food portion on my plate. To eat healthy snacks. To plan to walk more. To be a good me. I've been to church and had a feel good moment so today is the day! Later.

I don't think you ever get over the loss of a pet, but I know what you mean about the freedom of not having one. We just have the cat now. He is so much easier to plan around. When we went away for the weekend a few weeks ago, I just left him plenty of water and food, and he was fine. When we had dogs, we always had to get someone to come over. Our dog Panda left us today.

It's so sad. One day she was a healthy dog, the next we had to take her to the vet and today she passed. She was such a sweet dog and I miss her already. Hubby says we won't have another, it hurts too much. We lost 3 dogs in the last 3 years. Should I change my name? 4dognight isn't appropriate but I think I will keep it in their memory. One of the four is still alive and lives with my son. We want to travel and do more so having a dog ties us down. And cats are totally out of the question as my nephew is allergic. But I fully expect that my son will show up with one or two for us one day. He's like that. Loves to go to the pound and save puppies. We buried her next to Polly in my sons yard. POlly was her buddy and Panda really missed her when she left. Tomorrow is another day.

My dog was doing a sit to get a treat from my daughter and he collapsed on the floor after a clean bill of health from the vet the day before. The awful thing was my grandkids were over when he died. The comfort was that he went in the prescence of his loving family. We weren't going to get another dog until the chipmonks started excavating our patio and undermining it's structure. I am sorry about your dog...I know what it feels like! We had to put one of our three dogs down in February after a short bout with cancer...couldn't imagine him suffering. I was so sad for several weeks but know that I did the right thing. Dogs do tie you down but I can't imagine a house without them. I'm like your son in that I wish I could bring home every dog from the pound...my DH has differing opinions! Panda will never be forgotten! Report Inappropriate Comment

I'm so sorry to hear this, I know it is heart breaking to lose a beloved pet that is part of your family. We also have a family plot for our pets so they are all together. I understand your husband's reaction because he is hurting but he would most likely fall quickly for another pet if your son brought one into your home. I know you can't replace a loyal and loved pet but when you still have many years left of love to give to a pet and there are so many to rescue it is hard to resist rescuing another one. If your name isn't too painful a reminder, I would keep it as a memorial to them because you will always feel the same about them. Peace and Blessings Report Inappropriate Comment

When I read your message it reminded me of the passing of my own dog Panda many years ago. My Panda was an Old English Sheepdog that I loved dearly. I was at work one day when my ex (no an ex then) called me to tell me that Panda had run under the wheels of his truck in the driveway and was dead. It is so sad when we lose one of our pets. Life without them isn't the same I believe. I know what you mean about making it harder to travel but we have a couple of small dogs that we just take with us. We recently bought a camper for the back of our truck. I think that will make it even easier to travel with them. There are many rooms that will let you have a dog for an extra fee. You might want to rethink not getting another pet. I can tell you love dogs. I am really sorry for your loss. Report Inappropriate Comment

So sorry you lost your dog. My darling "Mr. Wilkes" died in May as he was over 16 and had had a stroke. He was blind and deaf & it was time for him to go as he was so afraid. He made us laugh so much as he was so funny. Report Inappropriate Comment

My condolences on the loss of your beloved pet. They become such an important part of the family, don't they? We have a cat, but once he passes on we won't get another for the same reason as you. DH and I want to travel to the south in the winters and it's not fair to expect others to stop in every day to look in on Lloyd. And he's just not equipped to travel with us, so we need to cut our trips short until the time comes that he's no longer with us. (Or the day when our son gets a job where he doesn't travel 90% of the time and can adopt him while we travel.) Try to find some comfort in knowing that Panda is no longer sick/suffering. . . . BORDERS BOOKS IS CLOSING!

It was inevitable that bookstores would start to close what with the kindle, etc. We had $30 in gift certificates to use at a Borders so last week, hubby and I drove over to Panama City, Fl where they have a Borders to shop. Everything was marked at least 30% off and then some. We left with 8 plus books for $28. Not a bad trip. Well, there were tons of diet books on sale and I just perused right by them. I thought if I didn't know enough about diets now, I was never going to know.
I just don't know if I am ever going to have enough willpower to lose. Sigh. But I'm happy and today is my granddaughter's birthday and we are having dinner with them. I love seeing my grandkids! We are going to the local chinese buffet. Swell. I'm hungry so we will see. I usually get the green beans and veggie stir fries. Later.

What a great deal on the books. Enjoy reading them all! I agree about the weight loss books. I doubt there are any new concepts out there. When it comes right down to it, it's a matter of common sense about calories in/calories out. We all know what to do, it's having the sustained motivation to keep on going that trips us up. But as long as we keep trying, we're making progress. Slowly but surely. Enjoy the birthday dinner with your grandchildren. Maybe one day I'll have grandchildren too. But probably not. SIGH. . . . Border stores have been slowly closing for years. They just don't have the inventory that B&N does. Every time I went to the local Borders, (which was closer than the B&N), they NEVER had the books I was looking for. It was so frustrating. But, supply and demand. However, it sure sounds like your local store was having a great sale. I wish you much success in finding what works for you in your healthier lifestyle. =) Report Inappropriate Comment
