Second Blog today but I felt like cleaning up my act. I went through the teams that I belong to and eliminated about 1/3 of them. I left all the sewing and quilting teams and the WW team and the Florida team just because. I really want to get into the WW Points Plus program big time but it requires some effort and a learning curve. I already have a busy January ahead of 3 times away so that is tough but it can be done.

On January 7th we go to DisneyWorld as we do every year at this time. It is the Walt Disney Marathon Weekend and our youngest son, his wife, 2 grandsons will be there and her parents and sister. It is always such a fun time. My son lost 30 plus pound this year at WW which is incredible for him and his wife is a lifetime member so I can get encouragement. They are not familiar with the new program. On January 14th I will fly to Atlanta to attend the Winter Merchandise Market! Haven't been for several years because it usually falls on the same weekend as Disney but this year I can go. Will join another decorator friend for 2 days of shopping on 26 floors of merchandise! Both of those away times require lots of walking so if I can just eat sensibly ----.
The Last weekend of the month, hubby has booked a 2 day vacation to fly to Niagara Falls. Vision Airlines has just established a route here to fly to Niagara and back for $69 each way so that was my Christmas present. My sister and her husband are going with us so that should be fun and very cold! We will walk to Canada and back as our hotel is right there.

January 11th is the chamber's annual banquet and Jan 6th is the first Coffee etc. etc. So I am already faced with eating challenges and the year hasn't even started yet. I do have an interesting life and so grateful to be able to do so much.
I must and will get into WW and learn the new program so I can eat sensibly. Later.

Yes, there is a learning curve with WW, but if you have been a WW member in the past, you already know half of it. I think you will become surprised at how natural it feels after only a couple of weeks.

We've been to Niagara several times, sometimes staying on the US side, sometimes staying on the Canadian side. But whichever side we are on we try to get in at least one walk to 'another country,' lol. Yep, I'm sure it will be cold, but what a great weekend getaway! The falls are usually frozen over at this time of year, and it's a gorgeous sight. emoticon

Please check in with WW it is a wonderful program. I love it. Yes there is a learning curve and I wasn't sure I would like it. But I'll tell you.......I can eat more food nd I am never hungry. I don't eat my 29 points most days but they are there if I need them This is a more senible food plan. Don't let your lifestyle interfer with your eating. I found that you can eat sensibly on this food plan in restaurants and at other peoples homes. Now its just about portion control. I love that fruit is 0 points. That is a God send.

Thank you all for reading and posting on my blog about my underground railroad quilt that I gave to my friend Pat. That was very special and I enjoyed reading your comments! When I was in 11th grade English, our teacher had us reading Thoreau and we were learning to give of ourselves. I suggested that we draw names and exchange gifts to each other that we made ourselves and she jumped at the idea. I drew Wren Allen's name and since I was a seamstress, I made him a canvas duffel bag with his name on it that he could put his laundry in. The person who drew my name gave me a leather change purse he had made when he was a cub scout. It was a lot of fun and a great lesson learned. Since then I have always enjoyed giving of myself. Making things and then giving them away. It is so much more fun! I imagine that I won't have many quilts left after I make them. I'll be looking for a recipient.

Now if I could just give the extra pounds away! That requires a bit more effort and learning. I want to get into the WW new points plus program in 2011 and hope to devote myself to it. I have avoided the scale for weeks and ate whatever I felt like eating although I must say, I did not leave the table stuffed except once or twice in the last month of two.

WW seems so simple. Just eat fruit and veggies to fillup as they are points. Makes sense to me. Later!

Underground Railroad Quilt

Wednesday, December 29, 2010

I finished the Underground Railroad Quilt the day before Christmas and was able to give it to my friend Pat! She was so surprised!
Here we are on Christmas Day!
It was fun to make and so worth it for her reaction! I gave her some history I had printed from the internet. She was familiar with the legend and was thrilled!

Pat is my special friend. She was first a client of mine, draperies you see and lamp and recovered furniture, etc. Her home is beautiful. She is a widow and lives with her 86 year old mother and mentally challenged 40+ year old sister. She is incredible. We started walking and now she is my best friend and even friends with my hubby! She got me walking and we try 3 times a week but have been lax so we need to get back into it.

The quilt is amazing, and I know exactly how Pat felt receiving it - when I left Darwin to return down south to be closer to my parents in Victoria, a wonderful friend presented me with a quilt - the first she had ever made. I had tears in my eyes when I saw what she'd taken so much time and care and how much love was in every single stitch, and even now, 10 years later, whenever I look at my quilt sitting across the end of my couch, I feel the same sense of wonder and gratitude.

Seems to me you both have an amazing and special friend in each other!

As of today, I have one year's perfect attendance on Sparkpeople. That is an incredible feat in itself, even though I was away from my computer many times during the year, I managed to log in on hubby's I-phone or a laptop somewhere. I went back to 2009 and reposted my goals to see how I did. OH, it's fifty-fifty I guess. What a struggle but at least I had some goals.

How did I do?

1. Post daily - Did that

2. walk the dog, Panda daily - I did walk Panda more but not daily. We have another dog visiting, Katie. I would like to keep her as she loves the attention we give her. Son wants her back. I vow to get out and walk panda more this year. We are both older.

3. Participate in Bootcamp and daily exercises. - Okay, I did not do this, not even the first day. I have an aversion to exercise, however, I got a WII for Christmas and I am going to buy the WII fit with balance board so hopefully I can get moving more.

4. Walk with my buddy Pat 3 times a week. These are good walks, about 3 miles and 50 min each. - I have walked with Pat but not as often as we need to. Today it is 26 degrees here in FLorida so forget going out! I did accomplish a Coach to 5K program even though I kept walking and not running. ANd I was in several races but I need to improve on that.

5. use the food and nutrition information and track food eaten. _ I did track quite a bit the first half of the year and then decided to do WW online which I also did for a while. In Sept, when we renovated our house, I backslid and never did fully recover. I did however, rejoin WW and plan to get into theirnew program in 2011.

6. Read the SPARK Book and get involved. Checkk!!! I enjoyed the read.

7. Find a good buddy on Spark who is motivated with me. - Made many good buddies!!! FIrst one was Kaseycoff and she has been incredibly successful this year. iIll have to follow her lead.

8. Cook dinner more often than eating out. Yes and no. Mostly did but the last 2 months it seems we ate out a lot. Parties are over so back to cooking.

9. Make healthy food choices at each meal. I've been incredible successful at doing so, even when eating out. I am eating more veggies and fruits and plan to continue and up my intake.

10. Do whatever it takes to keep it up. - I keep trying and coming back for more. Can't ask for more than that.

Well, I didn't do so badly, about fifty-fifty but in review, I need to do more. If I hadn't set these goals last year, I wouldn't have any accomplishment. I plan to read my blogs from last year to see how I did during the year.

Positives, I learned to quilt and renewed my passion! Made several quilts for Christmas and plan to continue. I already have planned blocks of the month! I set aside a room in my home for sewing. It's a mess right now but for the new year, I want to reorganize it and keep it that way I hope. I tend to keep my projects out in the open rather than putting things away. I've always felt that when I put things away, I'll lose them. That is why my desk is cluttered and at 62, I don't know if I can change that.

Lost 8 pounds, probably gained a few back but at least I am less than I started last year. My clothes fit better. This year I will continue to post every day. I think that is so important in keeping focus! Later.

Good for YOU getting PERFECT ATTENDANCE . . especially with your very busy life!
You've done a LOT this year, and I've sure been inspired by your blogs.
I also like to keep my projects out where I can see them. It's a mess.

I'm looking forward to another year of reading about your daily adventures.

Sounds like good progress to me. Maybe my little trick for getting myself to exercise will help you: I do "just 10 minutes" while I watch the news. It usually turns out to be more than just 10 minutes, but if all I do is 10 minutes, I'm still happy. Good luck in 2011!

It's time to get serious and set some goals for 2010. These are the same goals I've had every year in late Dec but this year I am going to do something about it. I am going to post a blog for 36 days straight, to the end of January. I may mss a couple of days when we are in Disneyworld unless my son brings his laptop but other than that, I'll be here.
Here are my goals:
1. Post daily
2. walk the dog, Panda daily
3. Participate in Bootcamp and daily exercises.
4. Walk with my buddy Pat 3 times a week. These are good walks, about 3 miles and 50 min each.
5. use the food and nutrition information and track food eaten.
6. Read the SPARK Book and get involved.
7. Find a good buddy on Spark who is motivated with me.
8. Cook dinner more often than eating out.
9. Make healthy food choices at each meal.
10. Do whatever it takes to keep it up.

Like most of you out there, I have been on nearly every diet plan out there and have been successful. My most recent was the Sonoma Diet which is a really good plan. I lost 18 lbs and kept it off for about a year and a half until I slowly gained it all back. There is something wrong with a diet plan if you can't keep it off. Or your committment to it. So, I am committing, right now, right here on Spark. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

In review, I flunked a lot of the above but I tried. This year I hope to do better. I am eating healthier but this month was a bust.

You know, 'they say' smokers take an average of a half-dozen quitting attempts before they finally are able to kick the habit for good. So if every attempt at diet you learn, improve, and make progress - then it's not a waste of time, it's just part of the journey. Twenty-eleven is YOUR year: you can do it! emoticon p.s. Get the WiiFit together and play with it. It's a fun way to get moving! Thinks me, lol...
