A BROKEN LEG! DAY 289

Monday, October 04, 2010

LEARN TO BE CALM AND YOU WILL ALWAYS BE HAPPY!

No it's not my leg or any humans. During our renovation, we had moved our dining room table away from the door while the new one was being put in. Last night, as I was walking past it I decided to push it back. We have a 2 pedestal table. One of the legs got caught on the tile and completely broke off. And that side of the table fell off onto the floor! Just what I needed. I've been thinking about getting another one but not just yet. Now I have the dilemna of having it repaired or throwing it out. Actually, it is a mahogany Georgian table that we purchased while we lived in England in the 70's. So it was custom made and beautilful. However, it has really taken a beating from my kids doing their homework, a spilled water glass that took off the finish, and me cutting fabric on it and creating marks all over it. I think we paid $450 or pounds for it, not sure which but it certainly doesn't owe us any money. I guess I can stop thinking about drapery fabrics for now as the table takes precedent.

Today I have a visit from my regional director. I hope she is coming to see me and not the house. EVeryday we do a little bit more. Move a pile from here, throw it out or put it away somewhere. Hope I can find it when I need it. I have found myself getting rid of plenty of knickknacks. Stuff you collect over the years. Stuff you don't need. HOpe no body gives me any knick knacks for christmas. I need a new nightie instead.

Later.

If the table was custom made for you it would be worth having an expert look at it and get it repaired and refinished. We are using the table my husband's grandparents had in the early 1900's and love it.

For some reason, I can't get my blog update to come up so I can do a blog today. I keep clicking on it and nothing happens!

Make out a Xmas list for everyone and give it to them. Make this a new tradition, so people give you want you want not what they think you need.

Sorry to hear about your table, but everything has a time span and the memories are in your mind not the table. I tend to throw out and not keep, so my advice, toss it.

I'm glad it is not your leg broken. Myself, I would vote for repair of the table. It sounds like a great table that could not be replaced, but getting a new one would be nice also. Anyway you look at it I think it was time to do something about the table.

Tell Santa you want cash or gift certificates for Christmas - you can then use them toward the new table! :-D

That table sounds wonderful. For me, the decision would be based on what will cost more, the repair or a new table. Good luck!

LOST MY MOTIVATION! DAY 288

LEARN TO BE CALM AND YOU WILL ALWAYS BE HAPPY!

I've totally been off track this month and getting on the scale today showed it. How can I get back on track. I don't want to gain the 8 lbs back that took me all year to lose. I may have to resort to Weight watchers but it is so darn difficult for me to get to a meeting. i still have much to do here at home. Every single room is in turmoil, waiting for me to come and sort it out. Last night we had an Oktoberfest party at the Yacht Club. It was fun but way too much food and of course I ate it all. Now I feel fat and sloppy.

The next couple of weeks are a dieter's nightmare. I have a luncheon on Tuesday and Wednesday. Next weekend we have a wedding and 2 afternoon parties. The following weekend, we have a wedding in Jekyll Island Georgia and we will be all weekend partying, I'm sure. It is a huge wedding and our son and his wife and grandson are in it. The following weekend we are home I think but I'm sure there is something on the calendar. Then the last weekend of the month, we fly to North Carolina to see FSU play NCState I think. Then we drive up to WIlliamsburg for the weekend and then back to our son's house for a halloween party before we fly home. The 6th of November is a big cultural awareness event with lots of ethnic food. Maybe it would do me good to go to WW meetings or at least try and get there for the month. Otherwise, all my effort will be put back onto my hips.

I have 2 good clients I am working with right now and a few new appmts next week so I am busy, busy. I love it but food is not my focus. Oh, what to do. Help Help. Later.

try to breathe and just take each event and meal as they come. plan ahead as best as you can and make wise choices each day. get some exercise in and drink your water and eat fruits and vegs as often as you can. and check in regularly! i too have had little motivation lately, but am recommitting to tracking and making wise choices. you can do this!

    1) I don't know much about WW, but are you allowed to attend meetings wherever you go? In other words, if you go to NC and find a local meeting, will they let you participate if you are a member? If they will, it might be a good thing to grab just an hour or two for yourself and go as a 'guest' so you can get some support and encouragement to stay on track.

2) If you go someplace with a buffet or 'help yourself' food, why not get a 'buffet buddy'? Find somebody else who is dieting or wants to eat healthy (maybe your son or daughter-in-law?) and have them fill your plate while you fill theirs. You are only allowed ONE trip to the buffet, and just be sure to tell them anything you want to avoid. That way the portion control and so on is out of your hands, and you can feel better about choosing healthy foods for your 'buddy.'

I love your schedule. It so busy, thats what I like. If you clean one room at a time, your life won't seem so cluttered and in a turmoil. Because your entire house and calendar is cluttered is why you feel so overwhelmed with WW. Take one room at a time, one day at a time and one meal at a time. Each event will have a different offering, be aware of your choices, you can enjoy everything and not eat everything. You can enjoy the company, personaltities the experience and not endulge in the food. Remember there are more parties, weddings, events, football games. Yes you can have that brat/bun, but pass on the chips and drinks. Have a diet soda instead/ Keep us posted to your events. I love to hear all about them.

COMPLETED HOUSE RENOVATION PICTURES!

Thursday, September 30, 2010

I'm enclosing a few pics from today as they finished. Showing you the new windows and new patio doors. Also, we had an entry way in the courtyard and they built me an arch to go over it so my southern jasmine will climb up it and be beautiful in the spring! I turned my desk around in the office with my back facing the window. So much nicer and seems roomier. As you can see, I still have a lot of sorting out to do, especially in the sewing room! I have thrown out and donated more stuff to thrift shops. Glad to get rid of it.

The last picture is my guest bath that we remodeled last year. The tub was 70"s blue and really uglyl Hope you enjoyed the visit!

Wonderful! I love the arch over the entryway - you will have to post pics in the spring when the jasmine blooms. :-D p.s. My desk is facing a window and I am going to have to turn it or something - dunno about you, but what I end up getting is glare since I'm looking toward the light. I think the solution you came up with is what I will need to do as well.

I'VE NOT BEEN GOOD! DAY 284

LEARN TO HAVE PEACE AND YOU WILL ALWAYS BE HAPPY!

The house renovations are nearing an end, thank goodness! But my diet has not been swell since all this started. I'm having trouble recommitting. Last night we went to a meeting where latin food was served and I love latin food so I ate it. Actually I probably didn't eat that much but I'm just not into counting points or calories or anything. I need to remotivate as I certainly don't want to gain back the 8 lbs I lost already.

The house is still a mess and I've got so lot of organizing and cleaning to do. I have ordered furniture to set up my sewing room but can't get to it because the painting isn't finished and I can't hang the drapes until that is done so we are sitting in a fishbowl. But I am so happy with the results, I'll have to have a neighborhood open house!

The contractor has arrived so got to go!

I don't think I could keep my sanity in that situation. I definitely could not maintain a healthy diet.

Do you use your house - and before-and-after pictures - to show to clients? 'cause it occurs to me that it would be a really useful 'visual' to give them an idea of what you can do and the changes they can make in their own houses. Thinks me, lol!

IT'S EASY TO LOSE TOUCH! DAY 282

LEARN TO HAVE PEACE AND YOU WILL ALWAYS BE HAPPY!

Changed my mantra above to reflect the peace that passes understanding. If you have it, all your troubles can go to God. The contractors are finishing up the windows today and painting the trim. Can't tell you how wonderful it is! Pictures will be posted for sure. I weighed this weekend and I was still at 180 in spite of everything. I guess I know how to maintain my weight. Got to go. Later.
