I don't know why but things start happening around here about 4:00 in the afternoon. I can go all day without a phone call and then boom. I was talking to a client on the phone explaining to her about a bench I had shown here. She had lots of questions and then the home phone rang and it was the delivery people on the way to deliver our new shed. No sooner did I hang up the phone than my cell phone rang. It was my installer confirming today's installation. I'm still trying to talk to the client. In the meantime, I'm supposed to have called my husband to come home when the shed arrived so I dialed his # on the cell and whispered to him while I'm still trying to talk with the client. Then the doorbell rings and it is the delivery people already. I finally have to tell the client I'll call her back. The delivery guys have this shed on a tractor trailer and it is tying up the whole cul de sac. The neighbor is trying to get out of her driveway to go somewhere and another neighbor is trying to come home. They put the shed off onto the street and I'm afraid they are going to leave it there. I call my husband and get his voice mail. "Where are you????" I leave a message. The delivery guys are ready to get moving. Finally he arrives and then there is the banter back and forth as to where the shed goes, how far away from the fence etc. In the mean time I am sweating profusely, all sticky. I finally get a chance to call my client back and tell her the story. Everything is cool on that front.

Finally the shed is where it goes. Interesting the way they maneuvered it on a hand trolly into the back yard. I'm hot, sweaty, exhausted, and stressed. I jump into the shower, put on some clean clothes and then we head off to the yacht club for a couple of beers, chicken fingers and macaroni and cheese. What diet was that I was supposed to be on?

It's amazing what came out of that old shed. Most of it went into the dumpster. Why do we keep these things. We had an old toy box that my husband just moved out to the street. He said inside it was a skeleton of a dead rat. Oh, God, help me. What do you expect living in Florida near the water and a drainage ditch. Rats and termites.

Today they start installing the new windows and doors. And I've got a new client to put something together for in a hurry. Oh, Lord help me. After all the windows get done, then I have major, major, cleaning to do. I've got to get moving before the contractor gets here. Later.

Things are happening fast around our house. I hired a contractor who doesn't let too much grass grow under his feet. And it's a good thing because I've decided I don't like having extra people hanging around. One thing I've learned over the years is that you want someone who shows up on time, calls if he is going to be late, does the job and cleans up after himself, everyday until the job is done. My mantra above is serving me well. So far, we've gotten 3 new fans, 48 new handles on my cabinets, pavers and a new garage door. Last night the fence came down as our new little storage shed is being delivered today. Our old ones that were torn down were infested with termites so now we are having the house treated as a precaution. The new windows and doors are coming either today or tomorrow. That means I have to load up everything in front of the windows and move it away. That includes this computer I'm typing on so today I need to do whatever it takes to finish my business and type all my blogs and articles for the next few days. And my van is at Big 10 getting new tires and an oil change today. Might as well get it all done. Hubby just left with a big load of stuff for the salvation army. We've filled up 2 dumpsters and need another for the rest of the fence to go in. And I'm trying to take care of clients at the same time.

It will feel so good to get all cleaned out. But there is plenty of work ahead of me. Lots to do. It is amazing the stuff you keep. In the shed was a pile of decorating books that I had in my office. They are all but ruined from moisture and insects but I'm trying to salvage a few of them. Guess I forgot they were out there. One was published in 1988 but it still has great window treatment ideas in it.

What diet was I supposed to be on? I'm trying but not paying much attention to it. This morning I drove to Big 10 where my friend Pat met me and we walked up to Publix and back to her house. About a mile and a half. Could have continued but she brought me home. I'll be busy enough running around. After the construction is all done, then I get the fun part, getting new window treatments in 3 bedrooms and maybe a door or two. And the kitchen window depending on whether it still fits or not.

Anyway, thanks for reading and I'll post some pics when I get time.

I went through all this, after we moved here, and I too had a problem dealing with all the confusion, noise and mess. I think we replaced everything except the walls and floors. I spent a lot of time walking, and meditating on "Tis Too will Pass" It was worth it, and I can feel for you, my friend. Hang in there!
sorry about all your book...etc. emoticon emoticon

SO MUCH TO DO! Day 273

Saturday, September 18, 2010

I have so much to do in this house! We got our new electronic garage door and now I need to clean out the garage. We tore down our sheds and found them full of termites. Hopefully they didn't make it to the house yet. Our house is brick. We threw a lot of stuff away from the shed filling up 2 dumpsters but now I need to figure out what to do with the rest of the stuff. I have boxes of drapery hardware that needs to be sorted. I have wall to wall shelves in our garage full of fabric books and samples and they are all dirty from construction dust. So it is clean and throw out day. Just don't know how far I can go with that. I have to deliver a chair today so that will take up time and knowing me, when I get home, it will be too hot or I'll be tired. But it has to get done. So I'll see you later!

I am so excited about my new driveway and courtyard and anxious to see the finished interior projects with new windows and doors! I am also excited about quilting again! I have always loved quilts but just didn't have time to do them in the last 26 years of running a successfuly business. Now I am taking time for me and getting back into a hobby I love.
I have quilte a collection of hardcover books on quilting and I've been dragging them out and reading over them. Over and Over. My hubby must think I've gone crazy. I have to stop going to the fabric store as it is getting expensive. However, they keep telling me that once i finish buying all my supplies, it won't be that bad. I don't believe them.
Now when I have discontinued fabric books, I'm going to look them over before giving them away. I'll definitely keep the ones that would make good squares.

I'm also doing good on eating this week so far. Didn't track yesterday but I'm pretty sure I did well with it. I'll go back today and fill in the blanks. There is not much to eat in the house. One apple and some frozen fruit. I have rediscovered applesauce and the tubs with cinnamon sprinkled on them are a delicious snack. Haven't had a klondike bar all week.
I've got to get moving and get dressed before the contractors arrive. Later!

I love quilting. You can never have too much fabric or too many quilting tools! I have a room full of fabric that supports that!

make sure you have healthy foods in the house. You don't want to derail yourself with junk food. I am anxious to see the finished product. Post pix as you go through your remodel, as you did your courtyard. It was beautiful. Also let us see the quilt as you begin it, do it and finish it.

I am so happy and excited about my new courtyard! The addition of the new pavers really turns this eye sore into a pleasant outdoor room. The color of the pavers coordinates well with my interior. I have a red sofa and Mexican Talavera Tile backsplash in my kitchen. I am extremely excited that I figured out how to upload a photo! Finally. Hope I don't forget! I'll be posting more pics of our renovation as we go along!

Now we need to get busy on the landscaping and I've already orderd some updated cabinet handles for the kitchen and tile for my fireplace surround!!
