A DREARY DAY FOR A RACE! DAY 126

Saturday, May 01, 2010

YOU CAN'T LOSE WEIGHT AND KEEP IT OFF WITHOUT CHANGING YOURSELF!

Tonight at 6:00 is the Sundown Run, the race I am supposed to take part in for couch to 5K. The weather is really dreary and even though the weatherman is projecting sunshine, it looks a long way off. Last night was the Rotary get together and we were supposed to be outside under a tent. Well, it was rain rain raining so hard, there was no way. So inside we went. Maybe it will clear and we can still go.

Last night was a pig out for me. Ate and drank everything in sight. First time in a long time, this year actually. There was a beautiful buffet and now that I've been with Spark, I look at peoples plates as they come back from the buffet. Interesting to see the food that is laden down on them. I left a little space on my plate but I managed to eat everything on it. That is a good idea for a buffet, leave a little of the plate showing through. Separate each food group a little. I actually took a big wedge of lettuce so that took a lot of room. What is interesting, and hubby commented on this as well, the food was really salty, especially the cajun beef. Really salty! We don't add salt hardly at all to what we cook at home. Of course now, the government is talking about regulating salt in our diets! So even though the pounds aren't moving quickly, at least our diet is better.

I'll be taking it easy on the food today and paying mindful attention to what goes in my mouth! I hope I can keep the fire burning under my butt today and get some cleaning and organizing done in the house. I had a great selling week in my business and I have things I need to attend to for clients. Thank goodness, I'm getting to do some creative things again. Have a great weekend!

I must be getting older: the excessive saltiness of foods is driving me nutz! Public places can be quite liberal in regards to salt shakers, and those who want it can add it. But those of us who don't want it - well, once it's in there, we can't very well take it out, can we? Hrmph!

Re your race: hope it goes well and you enjoy it. And if it does rain, it will probably feel good, if you're working up a sweat--! Post tomorrow and let us know how it goes. emoticon

A DEVASTATING OIL SPILL!

Saturday, May 01, 2010

YOU CAN'T LOSE WEIGHT AND KEEP IT OFF WITHOUT CHANGING YOURSELF!

I hadn't really paid much attention to the oil spill in the gulf until this morning when it was all over the news and the fact that they can't seal the well. Living 5 miles from the Gulf of Mexico, this is a devastating thing that is happening to our beautiful gulf coast. We depend on tourism for a good deal of our economy and for this to happen at the beginning of the summer season is really bad. Please pray for our gulf coast and that the powers that be will find a way to stop the spill and the damage it will cause! I have a photographer friend whose major business is in the summer when she takes beach portraits of families visiting the area. She is very concerned that she will be painting tar balls out of her pics. Today is dreary and rainy when it was supposed to be nice and sunny. Thanks for your concern!

This is a tragedy!!! I feel for the animals, but don't you think it is about time we quit draining the earth of all it's natural resources and find something that can take it's place (Oil)!!! I get so discussed when I hear the news! Why can't the governments and natural resources people work together to find a replacement! This would do several things!

1)Provide jobs for jobless people!

2)Provide the government something to do!

3)Save jobs that people like your friend have that depend on the sea!

4) Save our fishing jobs and the natural wildlife!

5)Save our natural resources for emergency use!

6)Save money in general for cleaning such an awful disaster!

I could go on and on but I guess that would just make things worse, so I'll quit now! emoticon

Yes, the wildlife. I'm sure they will be looking for volunteers to bathe the birds with dawn dishwashing soap. That seems to take the oil away.

Just think of all the wildlife that depends on survival! It is such a tradgedy to think of the damage it will cause to our environment!

WHAT I APPRECIATE! DAY 125

YOU CAN'T LOSE WEIGHT AND KEEP IT OFF WITHOUT CHANGING YOURSELF!

I appreciate all of my spark friends who read and respond to my blogs! I enjoy writing them because it gets whatever I'm thinking down on paper and out of my system. I also appreciate the fact that some of you think I am an inspiration! That makes me feel good as I like to help others. Maybe that is why I have been a successful decorator and business owner. I help people get what they want and need. I appreciate the UPS Man or woman who delivers my packages to my door and the postman who brings items too big to fit into the mailbox. My drapery installer who is always available when I need him.

I am grateful that business has picked up and people are calling for appointments. Hopefully the economy has turned itself around. I appreciate all of my clients. I appreciate my new bookkeeper who is going to keep me straight. I appreciate Paul who came over in minutes to help me hook up my printer and get it to work. I appreciate my friend Pat who taught me how to walk and keep walking, the new running store, RUN WITH IT! that set up the couch to 5K program and got me moving again.

I am grateful for those who refer me to others so that I can help more people. My sons and grandchildren, my 90 year old mother-in-law who keeps going like an energizer bunny. Well, maybe not that fast but she is still ticking. My two doggies, the flowers that bloom, the yardman who cuts our grass and puts out fertilizer. My friend Marsha, the photographer, who takes my room photos and any other picture I need. She is such a good friend over the years I've known her.

My husband of 37 years, my best friend. The United States Air Force and all of our military for keeping us safe and allowing me to wear the uniform. I could go on and on and maybe I"ll add to this later. Got to go, the painter needs the paint color for the wall. Later.

TOO OLD TO LOSE! DAY 124

Thursday, April 29, 2010

YOU CAN'T LOSE WEIGHT AND KEEP IT OFF WITHOUT CHANGING YOURSELF!

I give up again. The two pounds are back. I don't think that my lifestyle allows me to lose weight. I'm too old and it clings to me. Maybe I'm just supposed to be happy in the skin I'm in. Like one of my friends said, if I knew how tough it would be to lose again, I wouldn't have gained it back. I walked 3 miles Tuesday night and I've been racing around like a banchee trying to keep up with clients and appmts and hauling stuff in and out of my van. I've been eating the best way I can given the circumstances of not being home at lunch and attending social occasions where food is served. I thought I was free this week and now I've got a rotary dinner to attend Friday night and all day Saturday if I want to. Which I don't. Hubby is a rotarian and is next in line to be president this coming year and that means I'll have to go to every function Rotary has except the meetings. I don't know what we are going to do when he retires. He will never be able to stay home and be bored and I will kick him out of the house if he expects me to entertain him.

This is our schedule. Tuesday night we had the race/walk. Wed night was rotary get together with rotarians from India at one of my clients homes. Then hubby had choir practice at church. Tonight he has barbershop rehearsal and I'm free. Friday and Saturday are the Rotary District convention and we are the hosts and hubby is vice-pres. Thank God I don't have to go all day Saturday and Saturday night is the 5K race for my couch to 5K program. Sunday is church and in the evening is the mother/daughter banquet. Don't want to go but I always think it could be the last year for my mother-in-law. I will probably have my granddaughter Sunday afternoon to help make hats to wear.

Hubby is also vice-pres of our church council and vice-pres of the local YMCA and next year will be the county YMCA pres. And he has a full time job with the Chamber of Commerce. Wed, he is gone all day escorting WWII veterans on the honor flight which takes 100 veterans and guardians to D.C. to see the WWII memorial. At 7:00 that night I will be at the airport to welcome them home. The next morning, we get up and go back to the airport to get on a plane to D.C. again to vacation with my son and wife and 2 grandchildren. I graciously volunteered to babysit the baby on Thursday night so they could all go to a baseball game. Back on Sunday. Monday, the 10th of May I will be home for one day to catch up on everything and clients, pay bills etc. Then off to New Orleans from May 11 to 15 for the annual Decorating Den Convention. And you wonder why I'm not able to lose weight.

I'm not even going to get into what's happening in June yet. The biggest festival of the year for us. And a friend coming to stay with us for 5 days. Invited himself, he did. A Brit friend from way back but we love him. 5 days?

If you got to the end of this, thank you for reading. And yesterday no one seemed to notice that I was wearing 2 different shoes on my walk. One new and one old and not on purpose! Tomorrow.

I like to look at those who have won on their weight loss journey so I will encourage you by one of those stories. Back when I lost with Weight Watchers, a woman my husband worked with was losing also. Her and I lost about the same amount of weight and we gained about the same back.

During Christmas the gang Terry worked with got together for dinner to catch up. Ruth walked in looking very good. I looked at her and said Wow, you are skinny as a rail. She finally made the decision to go back to Weight Watchers, and she lost all she had gained back. She said it was harder and slower, but she kept at it until it was gone. I think she is 55 or 56.

She encouraged me to have 15 pounds off by the next time we see her. I have lost 7 since then, so I am on my way.

But every time I get discouraged, I say to myself, Ruth is older than I am, and she did it, so I can too.

So, YOU can lose this weight. Maybe not on the time table you are used to, but you can do it.

wow, I've never been THAT busy in my LIFE, let alone in a day or a week or a month. Yes, you will lose weight. No, you are not too old. I'm 65 and have complete confidence that I will lose 100 pounds in 2 years. I don't have your challenges, though, so I sure can't compare my situation to yours.
Keep believing you can do it - no matter how long it takes.

It does take a LOT of time and FOCUS to lose weight at any age. The hardest things to learn, I think, is to put YOURSELF first, and to say 'No' to some commitments. There are some things you CANNOT say "No" to, but only you know what those are.

emoticonHANG IN THERE!! WE CAN DO THIS TOGETHER!!

emoticonPersonally, I thought your 'Unique' shoes were quite a Fashion Statement yesterday.

Girl, you have your work cut out for you!! And I do not envy you one bit re all the eating out. Yes, it's nice that it's free and you don't have to fix it, but there is no way I would be able to attend these functions and NOT gain weight, let alone what it would be doing to my blood glucose and my hypertension. Hmmm, I think I'm starting to sound like an old lady, lol... Hope you have a laptop or a cell phone so you can keep us informed - you will be ready for a vacation by July, fer sher! :-D

BUSY!! I'm so sorry you haven't been able to lose. If it's any consolation, my schedule went from something like yours to nothing (thank GOD!) a few weeks ago, but I still haven't been able to lose and have been concentrating on it full time. I think it's the weather. The earth's rotation. Something beyond my control. Yeah, that's it... :)

Wow! You are very busy! It made me dizzy just reading about all you have to do.
I agree that it's difficult to lose when busy as in order to lose it takes a lot of planning. The only thing I can suggest is when you do have some time to prepare your food in advance and divide it up and to do your exercise in small increments between appointments. Remember to take care of yourself and it's ok to say, "no" sometimes. I really don't think your too old to lose. I am 50 and have lost 22 pounds since March.

TWO ODD SHOES AND A WALK! DAY 123

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

YOU CAN'T LOSE WEIGHT AND KEEP IT OFF WITHOUT CHANGING YOURSELF!

Well, yesterday was a busy day! WEnt to a funeral, saw three clients in the afternoon, went to a ribbon cutting and open house and then got home just in time to change clothes and get ready for my 3 mile walk downtown. Here's how it went:

Well, they were both blue! But I walked 3 miles! You can really tell the difference between a new shoe and an old one. The new one was nice and tight and the old one was loose, however my toes cramped in the new one. My legs hurt in the back of the knee. I was really conscious of it. But I walked 3 miles in 48 min. Not bad. Even my husband was impressed. One more walk prior to the 5K on Saturday evening. I did not achieve my goal of running but I'm a walking.

There was a cute shirt at the store. On the front it said, ONE MORE MILE. And on the back it said, OH, Lord, please let someone be able to read this message! I am glad I am back into walking and I appreciate my friend Pat as without her inspiring me to get out there, I wouldn't be doing it at all.

I didn't do real well on the eating front as I sampled a few snacks at the open house and a klondike bar after the walk. Oh, well. I'm up a pound again. Just can't keep that pound or two off but maybe I'm retaining fluid. Didn't get to drink much yesterday or get near a bathroom. Today is busy again but not quite as busy.

I have a lot more energy now. I'm a nap taker and most days this year, I would crawl into bed in the afternoon. But now, I find, it's no good. Can't go to sleep so I get up. Couldn't get to sleep quickly last night either but slept well. Tomorrow!

LOVE that tee-shirt - I want one, lol... Interesting how your knees felt different in response to the new shoes - please post again and let us know how it goes in terms of adjusting to them. If you ask me, three miles / 48 minutes is a pretty good pace!

p.s. In the pic you posted, your shoes look gold, not blue. 'O, them golden slippers--!' :-D

p.p.s. No, I surely did not! I read that you said they were blue, because otherwise I truly would have thought they were gold-colored. When you compared old with new, I thought it was just in a general way. I didn't know you did a (ahem) toe-to-toe comparison, LOL!
