TWO TROPHIES AND ORANGE JUICE. DAY 128

Monday, May 03, 2010

YOU CAN'T LOSE WEIGHT AND KEEP IT OFF WITHOUT CHANGING YOURSELF!

I opened my e-mail this morning to loads of spark info and two trophies, one for perfect attendance and one for 500 spark points! This is the fourth month in a row that I've achieved perfect attendance and 500 points! WHoo Hoo! I guess I now have a goal to achieve for the rest of the year, earn these trophies each month for perfect attendance!! And points!
Now what about the orange juice? I get messages from Real Age as well and they say that after a heavy meal of stuff you shouldn't eat or overeat, drink orange juice! The antioxidants will help digest the bad stuff faster. I guess I can do that. Kind of goes away from diets that tell you not to drink your fruit!

Yesterday my granddaughter came over and we did some sewing. I set up a little table in my room with my machine on it and we made a little blanket for her brother that resembled a potholder and she showed a button onto a piece of cloth and did a basting stitch. I need to take advantage of this opportunity to teach her while she is still interested. She has already picked out some fabric in my stash and wants to make a blanket for herself next time around. I can get it all ready for when she comes next. What a joy for me.

I've got a busy day ahead so I must go and for the next two weeks I'll be out of pocket in D.C. and New Orleans so won't be blogging much. I'll do the best I can at meal time but don't expect to lose anything. When I get back, I'll jump back in to the healthy eating again. Tomorrow!

Woohoo indeed, for the perfect attendance(s) and the points - doing that for every month this year is a really good goal! Re DC: we walked from the Capitol to the Washington Monument to the new WWII monument to the Lincoln Memorial. No matter what you're eating, if you walk around the mall - even around the Smithsonian buildings and so forth - you will get plenty of exercise! Re NO: even if the hotel has a gym or ellipticals or a walking track, see if there's a park or two in the vicinity. You can check online before you go; that will give you a great place to 'walk off' some of the meals and allow you to keep up with your fitness, too. :-D p.s. Hope you post LOTS of PIX!!!

Your life seems so full and interesting. I wonder how you even have time to eat, let alone eat too much. It's inspiring to read your news and views.

We will be thinking of you making good choices as often as you can while you are traveling. Remember most restaurants will let you substitute veggies for their side dishes on the menu.

I read the same e-mail from Real Age about the Orange Juice. Good thing that is my favorite juice, anyway!

I'm off to get some orange juice. It's worth a try. Hopefully I can erase my weekend.

Enjoy your trip. Give it all your effort and I bet you can lose something while you are gone. It is possible. Don't give up in advance.

I DID THE 5K. DAY 127

Sunday, May 02, 2010

YOU CAN'T LOSE WEIGHT AND KEEP IT OFF WITHOUT CHANGING YOURSELF!

I did the 5K last night with my friend Pat encouraging me along! It was supposed to be a beautiful sunny day and evening but instead it was dreary and overcast with dripping humidity. Not hot but with a nice breeze blowing. Or I should say a pretty strong breeze. My classmates that had started this couch to 5k program had dwindled to about 8 and most had converted to running, at least part way. Maybe I'll try again with the running part.
Anyway, Pat and I started out walking a fast clip. She is a retired Army Sgt Major and she is good at walking. I was laboring and she could tell it so she paces me and I keep up, just walking behind her a bit. Every once in a while I'd hurry it up to catch up to her. My legs were so stiff. At the 1.5 mile point, they had a high school band drum corp beating out a rhythm for us. That was cool. At that point a woman named Linda joined us and we walked together, the three of us until the end and we weren't last. Pat probably could have gone off and left me but she kept her pace so I could keep up. We weren't registered for the race as it was $30!. I didn't want a t-shirt that badly. $30, whoo! So we didn't go through the gate at the end. Afterward, we had our picture taken which I will post when I get it and then went for a pizza destroying all the effort we had put in. The wind was really blowing hard from the East and on the way back was against us. So finishing at 49 min pushing against that hard wind was a challenge! Now I'm looking forward to more events to participate in. I just wish they didn't charge so much. We have one here on Memorial day called the Gate to Gate on Eglin AFB. Huge # of people participate. And then, June 5 is a saturday and we have the Billy Bowlegs Midnight Run which is at midnight. That is interesting, running the streets at dark. So, I need to keep this up and at least try to walk daily, if not just 15 min. The dog will be happy. Tomorrow!

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticonWOW! Great job! I walked the upcoming women's 5k route a few months ago and found I could do it just fine. I seriously considered it but decided to cook for a mother's day dinner for out women's shelter instead. Don't know why it scares me so to enter a race!! I bet you were euphoric after finishing! I'm so happy for you!! Hope you had some time to recover!

Regarding the wind, we had high winds several days in a row until yesterday and the winds are going to start up this evening. I loved walking to and from work this morning, and even though the winds are blowing with increasing force, I've decided to walk this evening. If the winds get to 50 mph I may ask my dh to pick me up. We never have this much wind. My kids who live all around the US reported wind too! What's up with that?

Great job!! I'm proud of you and love the fact that you are looking at other races!! Midnight, how interesting!

5K in 49 minutes? I think that's EXCELLENT! I do about 4K an hour, so I think you must've been really moving, fast walk indeed. You know, I'm not sure how they work, but if you can find some of the 'charitable' events, where you get sponsors for so much per mile? Do they cost to enter? 'cause if they don't, you get the pride of accomplishment while at the same time contributing toward a good cause.

A DREARY DAY FOR A RACE! DAY 126

Saturday, May 01, 2010

YOU CAN'T LOSE WEIGHT AND KEEP IT OFF WITHOUT CHANGING YOURSELF!

Tonight at 6:00 is the Sundown Run, the race I am supposed to take part in for couch to 5K. The weather is really dreary and even though the weatherman is projecting sunshine, it looks a long way off. Last night was the Rotary get together and we were supposed to be outside under a tent. Well, it was rain rain raining so hard, there was no way. So inside we went. Maybe it will clear and we can still go.

Last night was a pig out for me. Ate and drank everything in sight. First time in a long time, this year actually. There was a beautiful buffet and now that I've been with Spark, I look at peoples plates as they come back from the buffet. Interesting to see the food that is laden down on them. I left a little space on my plate but I managed to eat everything on it. That is a good idea for a buffet, leave a little of the plate showing through. Separate each food group a little. I actually took a big wedge of lettuce so that took a lot of room. What is interesting, and hubby commented on this as well, the food was really salty, especially the cajun beef. Really salty! We don't add salt hardly at all to what we cook at home. Of course now, the government is talking about regulating salt in our diets! So even though the pounds aren't moving quickly, at least our diet is better.

I'll be taking it easy on the food today and paying mindful attention to what goes in my mouth! I hope I can keep the fire burning under my butt today and get some cleaning and organizing done in the house. I had a great selling week in my business and I have things I need to attend to for clients. Thank goodness, I'm getting to do some creative things again. Have a great weekend!

I must be getting older: the excessive saltiness of foods is driving me nutz! Public places can be quite liberal in regards to salt shakers, and those who want it can add it. But those of us who don't want it - well, once it's in there, we can't very well take it out, can we? Hrmph!

Re your race: hope it goes well and you enjoy it. And if it does rain, it will probably feel good, if you're working up a sweat--! Post tomorrow and let us know how it goes. emoticon

A DEVASTATING OIL SPILL!

Saturday, May 01, 2010

YOU CAN'T LOSE WEIGHT AND KEEP IT OFF WITHOUT CHANGING YOURSELF!

I hadn't really paid much attention to the oil spill in the gulf until this morning when it was all over the news and the fact that they can't seal the well. Living 5 miles from the Gulf of Mexico, this is a devastating thing that is happening to our beautiful gulf coast. We depend on tourism for a good deal of our economy and for this to happen at the beginning of the summer season is really bad. Please pray for our gulf coast and that the powers that be will find a way to stop the spill and the damage it will cause! I have a photographer friend whose major business is in the summer when she takes beach portraits of families visiting the area. She is very concerned that she will be painting tar balls out of her pics. Today is dreary and rainy when it was supposed to be nice and sunny. Thanks for your concern!

This is a tragedy!!! I feel for the animals, but don't you think it is about time we quit draining the earth of all it's natural resources and find something that can take it's place (Oil)!!! I get so discussed when I hear the news! Why can't the governments and natural resources people work together to find a replacement! This would do several things!

1)Provide jobs for jobless people!

2)Provide the government something to do!

3)Save jobs that people like your friend have that depend on the sea!

4) Save our fishing jobs and the natural wildlife!

5)Save our natural resources for emergency use!

6)Save money in general for cleaning such an awful disaster!

I could go on and on but I guess that would just make things worse, so I'll quit now! emoticon

Yes, the wildlife. I'm sure they will be looking for volunteers to bathe the birds with dawn dishwashing soap. That seems to take the oil away.

WHAT I APPRECIATE! DAY 125

Friday, April 30, 2010

YOU CAN'T LOSE WEIGHT AND KEEP IT OFF WITHOUT CHANGING YOURSELF!

I appreciate all of my spark friends who read and respond to my blogs! I enjoy writing them because it gets whatever I'm thinking down on paper and out of my system. I also appreciate the fact that some of you think I am an inspiration! That makes me feel good as I like to help others. Maybe that is why I have been a successful decorator and business owner. I help people get what they want and need. I appreciate the UPS Man or woman who delivers my packages to my door and the postman who brings items too big to fit into the mailbox. My drapery installer who is always available when I need him.

I am grateful that business has picked up and people are calling for appointments. Hopefully the economy has turned itself around. I appreciate all of my clients. I appreciate my new bookkeeper who is going to keep me straight. I appreciate Paul who came over in minutes to help me hook up my printer and get it to work. I appreciate my friend Pat who taught me how to walk and keep walking, the new running store, RUN WITH IT! that set up the couch to 5K program and got me moving again.

I am grateful for those who refer me to others so that I can help more people. My sons and grandchildren, my 90 year old mother-in-law who keeps going like an energizer bunny. Well, maybe not that fast but she is still ticking. My two doggies, the flowers that bloom, the yardman who cuts our grass and puts out fertilizer. My friend Marsha, the photographer, who takes my room photos and any other picture I need. She is such a good friend over the years I've known her.

My husband of 37 years, my best friend. The United States Air Force and all of our military for keeping us safe and allowing me to wear the uniform. I could go on and on and maybe I"ll add to this later. Got to go, the painter needs the paint color for the wall. Later.
