Turquoise is the top color for 2010! Whoo Hoo for me! Note the color surrounding my sparkpage. I picked that last year before it was the top color. Turquoise, also aqua, aquablue, spa green, spa blue, seafoam, teal and others has always been one of my favorites. On my sparkpage, you can see a picture of my bedroom that I painted a couple of years ago. What color? Aqua. When I was a senior in college I had aprofessional photo taken and I was wearing an aqua dress that I had made. Last year, when I renovated my bathroom, (before picture above) I used spa green and sea urchin which is a tone of beige.

Now, I am seeing that color everywhere I look. In fabrics and accessories and clothing in the stores! I have a bedroom I want to redecorate, I'll be looking for turquoise to put in there along with the pale yellow striped wallpaper that will stay. A story behind the wallpaper, I ordered wallpaper for a client and when it came it was yellow striped. That wasn't what I had ordered for her, in fact it wasn't even close to the number of the paper that she wanted. So now it is in my house. I was going to paint the wall yellow but hey, why not paper it? So I did.

Well there's my decorating tip of the day.

My granddaughter is visiting today as she is off from school so that helps to brighten the day. She is 8. I've already been to a meeting and just getting to my blog. I like to do this early most days as it gets me going. I joined the 100 day challenge to exercise and already skipped yesterday because I was busy and it started to rain. I can only go outside for now, still haven't programmed my inside stuff, but we do have a Migun Massage Bed that I haven't used in a long time so I used that. I will do that when I can't get out. It helps circulation and healing and takes about 20 min. I also have some hypnosis tapes for weight loss and procrastination that I listen to while massaging. A few years ago, when I first got the hypnosis tapes, I lost 7 lbs because I wasn't interested in eating. I might try that again. I've been putting off listening to the procrastination tapes, Ha Ha!

I've got 4 chicken breasts in the crockpot with a can of chicken broth so I'll have to come up with something to do with them. Maybe shredded and serve in a wrap with blackbeans and corn and lettuce and tomato. That sounds good and mexicany. And I can reserve 2 breasts for another meal.

Something has to be done about my business. This economy is hurting all businesses. The phones haven't been this quiet in years and years. I'll have to get creative and start phoning past clients and visiting real estate offices etc. It's tough being a business owner but I've weathered a lot of storms in the past 25 years. Up and down and around we go.

Buy locally. Support your local small business owner rather than the big box stores if possible. You would be surprised that the big stores aren't necessarily less expensive. They just spend more to get you inside. Until tomorrow.

March is my birthday month and I always look forward to it no matter how old I will be. This year I am 62 on March 19th, eligible for social security. I better take it now while it's still available. I love the whole month as I look forward to spring, and today is a beautiful day! It will be busy so I have to fit in a walk with Panda sometime or she will be very dissappointed. Not only that, I joined a new team yesterday, the 100 DAY CHALLENGE. The idea is to shoot for 100 perfect days of exercise! I can do that. Hope some of you reading will join me.

We have no plans or engagements to eat out this week other than meals at which I can plan the menu. I would really love the scale to move downward. I'm listed at 182 and I got on this morning and it hovered around there so I'm not changing it. I just wish I could get on it and see the dial move under 180.

Yesterday I came in under my calories and under many of the nutrients although I felt I ate okay. I'm going to shoot for Nutrition Bingo as LUCILEELIZABETH suggests. How do you get magnesium and potassium to come anywhere near what it is supposed to be? I've got an early appointment so must go. I'll check in later.

Happy, happy birthday, Carol! I "googled" the phrase, food sources of potassium and found this web site. It lists food sources of many nutrients so keep scrolling to find magnesium, too.

It's a beautiful, sunny day here with gusty breezes. I think I'll lengthen our walk today since this is the beginning of week two. I'm going away for a conference Wednesday through Friday, so I think I'm going to have to get in the habit of walking first thing in the morning while there. That's probably the only way it will work for me when I resume teaching next week, too. But I know I can do it. I used to walk at 5:30am in 5 degree weather years ago.

Have a fantastic week!!!

I'm working on goals for March and I have decided to implement a PSPD challenge, a perfect sparkpeople day. This is one where I stayed within my caloric goals, and got some sort of exercise in, and met some of my other goals. A PSPD can be anything you want it to be as long as you included nutrition tracking and fitness.

I've set down some new personal goals. Instead of wasting time and energy playing games on the computer, I will replace that time wasted with cleaning an area in my home or office for 30 min a day. By doing that I will have gotten more organized and gotten rid of some of my stressors. I will exercise in some fashion at least 30 min per day, whether it's a walk with Panda or doing a DVD.

This coming week I have no outside eating occasions for which I can't plan the meal. I am at a luncheon on Wed and ordered the cobb salad with dressing on the side so I can eat what I want of it. On Friday is our regional meeting in Tallahassee and I will choose my food wisely. My husband is gone Thur through Sat so I can eat what I want and again, I will choose wisely.

I am going to weigh in tomorrow morning, March 1 and post whatever the scale says. I will continue with no eating sweets and desserts through Lent which has worked out well for me. So that's it. Starting out March fresh with new goals.

Great goals you have set for March. I will continue walking with you or do some sort of cardio once a day.

Okay, this week is almost over and one eating occasion left, tonight. Hubby's Magic of Harmony barbershop show was fabulous last night, almost 900 people there. AFterwards we had the Afterglow Party with food and drink and I did, eat and drink that is. I felt so thin and good looking all day. My pants are hanging on me. I should have weighed yesterday but I got on the scale this morning and no change. Just hovering around the same weight as usual. With beer and all those chicken wings and ribs, my stomach is churning. It would be impossible for me to chart this on my tracker, too depressing. This morning I felt this glob of food still in my gut and hubby decides to cook bacon and eggs. Blaah! He ended up eating the 2 eggs and all the bacon himself. I had a slice of whole wheat toast with a little butter(he put that on it) and a protein milkshake. Still churning but I'm drinking my water and I will just start over again today. Maybe my experience from last night will keep my appetite in check tonight at the fund-raiser. I hope they have a veggie tray.

The positive side of all of this is that I WILL and AM starting over again today. I WILL lose 30 lbs by the end of July and it WILL start coming off soon as I WILL be starting a new exercise program in March. I HAVE given up sweets and desserts and this is a big positive for me as I had them daily. WE even have ice cream fudgsicles in the freezer and they've been there a while. I seem to prefer yogurt now.

I'm taking today and tomorrow to rethink and set some goals for March. I must start some sort of consistent exercise program. I prefer walking outdoors but when it rains, nothing gets done. I have DVD's but my excuse is not being able to work the machine right to play on the TV. Maybe I need to spend some time on that today and get that organized. Yes, I can do that and hubby offered to help me with anything today as he headed off to exercise himself.

With my goals this month, I am going to include some personal and business goals. I'm letting my business go to pot and I can't seem to get motivated. Of course I lost the whole month of January as I was trying to reduce medications which didn't work and I was underperforming. February I was just catching up.
I have NO eating occasions for this week except Friday when I drive to Tallahassee for a regional meeting and lunch. Three hours to and from. I'll pack a snack so I don't have to stop at McDonald's in between. Hubby will be gone all weekend to Orlando for a Rotary meeting so what I eat is up to me and I can maybe motivate myself to do something positive. Anybody out there want to challenge me? On March 9 I go for a fasting blood test and then the next week, I see my doc for a physical. I want good results, a few pounds off, cholesterol down, etc. I can lose a few pounds in 10 days don't you think? Thanks for all your help!

Wow, Carol. I love it when you get mad and write about it. You're on the warpath, and that is great!

You may have lost the battle last night, but you are winning the war in a major way!!! I'm challenging you to re-think walking in the rain. If it is just misty outside or a very small drizzle, you can bundle up with a hooded jacket, wear gloves, pants that will protect you (jeans or all-weather pants you can order from LLBean), and you can still get your exercise. It's a challenge for me to walk when the weather isn't so nice, too, and I'm looking at it as "wind resistance" or an oomph to walk faster (to get it over with). So far, I have to admit, I haven't had much of that weather-resistance, but not one day this week was the weather very inviting (cold and breezy). I survived, though, and I know that pushing myself out that front door (with the dog to keep my anxieties away) is the answer for me right now. (I would also much rather walk that mile outdoors than to stand in front of my favorite TV show and march-in-place for 20 minutes which is what I have set as the alternative if I am to keep my streak going. Somehow, I'm finding that to be very motivating to get out and walk.)

For a food challenge, maybe aiming for "nutrition tracker bingo" could help. (I've blogged about it.) It doesn't happen for me very often, but I'm getting closer and closer. I think the balancing of the nutrients (calories, carbs, fats, proteins) is key in losing weight.

Finally, please don't be so hard on yourself over your weight loss numbers. It is still very early in your endeavor, and your body composition is most definitely changing. (While working out at the gym with a personal trainer this past summer, over a six-week period, I only lost 3 lbs. and zero inches, yet my clothes were much looser, lost a size, and looked trimmer. Go figure.)

It is so true that muscle weighs more than fat, and you just may be one of those people who packs an above-average amount of muscle compared to those of us who have elevated body fat and squishy limbs. The more muscle you have, the more quickly those pounds will eventually come off. (After I quit going to the gym due to a shoulder injury, I continued to lose weight until my sedentary lifestyle took over my metabolism again after about another six weeks. Then I began to gain weight again, so the muscles keep burning those calories long after you stop exercising. Then they atrophy . . . you know the cycle.)

So, you haven't ruined everything by over-indulging last night. Quite the contrary, you have learned an invaluable lesson. Also, anyone who prefers yogurt over fudgesicles is a health food god/goddess, in my book. So congratulations!!!
