The name has been changed to...

Friday, June 21, 2013

Well it is time! I needed a new outlook and commitment.
After spending the past 3 weeks in horrible, debilitating pain (6 days in hospital) it gave me the jump-start I needed to re-evaluate my nutrition priorities. The prednisone and insulin is a huge factor in careful monitoring of my carbs and calories. When I got my first dose the pain eased and then my glucose levels sky-rocketed to over 400.
The doctor ran a myriad of tests and blood work and still no absolute picture of what is going on other than it is some sort of inflammatory disease. Possible for Drug Induced Lupus. I see a rhuematologist late August.

It has been a horrible 3 weeks. But currently I am able to move with very little pain. Bare with me while I mainly track my foods. At some later time I will come back in earnest as long as my hands allow. (right now I am able to use my iPod app which has Siri so I don't have to type.)

Thank you for your patience

careful monitoring for the next three to four months of everything you eat and drink and put on your skin will help you figure out what you can and cannot do. don't forget the soaps and lotions. they may be causing part of the problem.

Hope you are feeling better and that they figure out what is going on. Those things that affect the joints are quite painful. My niece just had a relapse of Still's disease and is having a lot of pain with her joints, fevers and sore throat. She had it about 3 years ago, it is an auto-immune disease and now she had a recurrence, hoping the treatment works quickly this time. I hope the prednisone helps you and they figure out what is going on!

My new favorite dessert - yup it is on program

Sunday, February 17, 2013

Yesterday when I came back from Horseshoe Casino with my sister I was lurking in my freezer for something chocolate but not too sweet. I was wanting something I normally do not eat, EVER! A brownie sundae. You know the ones you get at the restaurant or Dairy Queen. The ones that send my blood sugars spiraling out of control and leaving me craving more sweets. Well I came upon a solution for that...I took out a cup of Healthy Choice frozen Greek yogurt (vanilla bean), let it thaw just a bit to soften it up and warmed a Vitalicious VitaBrownie in a glass custard cup then spooned the frozen yogurt on top. Yum,Yum, Yum. It was not overly sweet, so it did not trigger my sweet cravings, yet sweet enough to satisfy. I felt like I had cheated!

All total it was only 200 mouthwatering calories, 10 g. fat ( a little high, but not nearly as high as the original) 40 carbs, 5 g. protein, and 11 whopping g. of Fiber. I bet the original has nearly no fiber. The brownie alone is also loaded with other fabulous vitamins like 50 % of Vitamins A,C,D,E, iron, Zinc and 20% calcium.

Now I have a weapon when I go somewhere for a birthday party and what not.

Well that is it for now, I have a major sinus headache and having trouble forming thoughts... so ta,ta for now

I too loved the HC frozen greek yogurt and ate one a day for a long time. Then I took a closer look at the ingredients. Propylene glycol! They put that in antifreeze and dog treats to keep them forever soft! Google it!

Those vitamuffins and vitabrownies are life savors aren't they. For those of you who can't find them I am out in the middle of nowhere and I order them online and have them shipped. The price is outrageous but I ordered 3 or 4 months worth at a time and stick them in the deep freeze.

I bought mine at Giant Eagle. They are in the frozen section of the organic aisle at the one in Barberton. They are not cheap (5.99 for a box of 4) so about 1.50 each 2 oz. brownie. They carry "muffing top and muffin" items as well, but the brownies are the only sugar-free item.

    Dear FunniRosi,

Thanks for an amazing dessert idea!! I've been getting "stuck" with jello, lite cool whip, and activia (light, of course). This is a fine dessert but when I want chocolate, all I have had is chocolate cheerios!!

This sounds nice for when the cravings are overwhelming. I certainly appreciate it! Good luck on your weight loss journey. All the best!
sincerely,
Riisa emoticon

No diligence = NO GOOD :(

Wednesday, February 13, 2013

How horrible, what a disaster, OMG what did I do?

Over the weekend I started to slip and slide, before you know it I was in a full avalanche! My diligence went out the window and into the cupcakes and brownies and full list of other no-no's. Fewer and fewer veggies, more and more carbs. What a train wreck!

Yesterday started off well. I prepared saute' veggies, small amount of sweet potato and white potato cubes with pan-seared chicken breast with a light garlic and mushroom sauce. So what happened? I let myself get too hungry and my appetite became insatiable and I was tired. It was not pretty!

Why, you ask, did I do it? Too much temptation too soon and not paying attention. 1) A birthday party that I made the special cupcakes (Hello Kitty), Sloppy Jo's, (although I did bring a veggie tray to help with my temptation demons and did pass on the chips) and 2) the brownie cake balls I baked with dreams of making cake pops for my little cherubs for Valentine's Day...that went down the drain last night / early morning when I ate nearly ALL 36 of them without thinking. Hey me thinks me has a clue...WITHOUT THINKING.

I dread tomorrow when those darn brownies jump onto my scale. The weight I had worked so hard for will be down the tubes and for WHAT?? Some brownies that I really did not savor? For the fat slicked biscuits that I consumed and did not enjoy after the first one? For the sweet potato drowning in butter?? Oh, woe is me, what have I done?

Well whatever I have done, I need to un-do and press on!

Here is my answer to my food demons..."Resistance is futile" I will conquer them one day at a time!!

Holy cow, I just completed a 7 DAY streak!!

Friday, February 08, 2013

Hey I didn't know I could do it, but, do it I did...I went 7 entire days without going over my daily calorie limit. emoticon

It has been a long time coming, but I did it!!!

The reward?
I feel better, I have lost some weight, and hey - my husband joined in. Life is sweet.

Now if I could only complete a streak of going to bed before 6 am...oh well, that is a challenge for another day

Day 3 - The four letter "F" bomb (FOOD)

Friday, February 01, 2013

Yesterday my sister invited me to come with her to play Scrabble while we stayed with my mom. - As some of you know my mom has Parkinson's and requires someone to be with her at all times. At first I was a little hesitant because I know how getting together with my sisters ALWAYS involves that little four-letter-"F" bomb, FOOD. If you ever come to one of our family get-to-togethers you would understand. We always say we are keeping it simple and of course there is enough food to feed an entire country. Or so it seems. The entire time I combat the sugar/dessert demons as my sisters gorge themselves and ultimately so do I. We feed off of each others bad behavior. Now you know the reason for my dread.

This time we had a "plan". We did not buy anything we did not already have. She brought skinless and boneless chicken thighs and simply baked them, stir fried some veggies and I brought salad and veggies to snack on. This was wonderful! We ate and played Scrabble and then she brought out the cherry gummy hearts which I discovered were horribly high in calories and sugars. - well - DUH!! I ate only 5 the entire night - I did enter them in my log. And we had some homemade Chex mix but kept it under control. This time I think we fed off each other in a positive way. Neither of us over-indulged.

While I cannot say I was a saint, I was far better controlled than I have been in a very long time

It is so easy to overeat the wrong stuff when you are visiting having a good time and not really paying attention to what is going in your mouth. I know, we all know. sounds like you have a plan, go for it

It' great that your sister is working with you. It's hard not to overindulge when you go to family get together or social gatherings. There are always so many tempting goodies around. It takes a lot of self discipline. It' much easier when you have help. Sounds like you're doing great.
