1604 calories
68% carbs
28% protein
4% fat

Ate beans again when I got home. :-/ Not cooking any today so I hope the lack of temptation will stop that habit.

Forgot to turn on the HR monitor before spin class started so I don't know how many calories I burned, but the bike said about 400.

I fell asleep pretty early and woke up in the middle of the night and thought about food. So I pulled up a couple of "before" pictures on my iPod and looked at them for a while and decided I didn't really want to eat anything badly enough to go back there.

Woke up with some actual hunger for the first time in a long time. I used to be so hungry when I woke up that it provided incentive to get to work because that's where I usually eat breakfast. I'd like to get back there again!

Installed FatWatch on my iPod to see if it'll be a viable replacement for physicsdiet.

One feature it does not have that I would like is a way to put in calories eaten to estimate my metabolism based on weight lost or gained. I'm going to ask the developers if they can sync with my tracker app, Lean Me Pro.

1435 calories
71% carbs
25% protein
4% fat

That was more than I planned on eating. Mostly because when I got home the lima beans were done and sitting in the slow cooker and they smelled so good I had some straight out of the pot, with nothing added. One of my cats LOVES beans and he demanded to have some too.

Getting myself onto the elliptical was surprisingly difficult. It was like pulling teeth. I didn't get around to it until about 10:30 pm and had to convince myself that even if I only did it for 20 minutes it counted. That I could do it in my socks and jeans if I really wanted. The point was just to *do* it.

Once I got down there I grudgingly decided to change into workout gear and put on my Nikes. And once I had Pandora up and streaming the Lady GaGa channel I was into it.

Still, I had no idea I had slipped so far that I would put up such resistance to using the elliptical. I LOVE the elliptical. I like listening to catchy inane pop music while using it. I always feel better after doing it. I used to think nothing of 45 minutes or an hour on there.

My knee arthritis has been hurting a little the past few days, including while ellipticizing last night. I think it may be due to the large amounts of dry beans I've been eating lately. There is some thought that the purines in beans might contribute to gouty arthritis. I have osteoarthritis, but it's all joint inflammation, right? So I think I may cut back some on the beans for a while.

Today I'm on track, having eaten 369 calories so far, 59% carbs, 38% protein, 3%fat. I'm signed up for the spinning class after work so that should burn a few calories.

Wednesday I have a session with the personal trainer at the Y so that's locked in.

And Thursday I think there's spinning again. So for the rest of the week I won't have to self-motivate on the exercise front. I just need to keep the food under control.

And I put in all the weights and % body fat numbers since December 1 at physicsdiet.com so I can watch my trend lines again. It helped before, so I think I should go back to it.

I wish Spark People had a moving average tracker implemented. It would mean less place to track things!

One down, three to go...

Shifting from outdoor workouts to indoors is a HUGE adjustment! I've had a similar reaction to ye olde treadmill as well. It just doesn't hold the appeal it once did.

There just are too few options during our cold and mostly snow-less (at least down here) weather.

But hey, we're getting 'er done, right? :-)

Four days. Just Four days.

Monday, January 03, 2011

I gained 7 (SEVEN) pounds over the holidays (gasp).

This has gone on long enough. Last year at this time I was an unstoppable freight train. In the right direction. I need to regain my mojo.

I'm going to start with four days of staying on track.

Four days of staying within the calories LeanMe suggests.
www.leanme.net
Four days of exercising EVERY DAY. Either strength or cardio or both.

This is what I did last year and I need to do it again. Because I want my hot athletic kayaking body back, dammit. I want my strength and endurance back.

And I am going to be among that 5% who keep the weight off. All off.

So here goes. I'm going to do this for four straight days. Just four. Then I'll do another one, and another one, and another one.

But for now I'm focusing on four. Because I can comprehend doing that.

I'll report back here on Friday with the results.

Because this train is stopping and reversing, right now. Period.

I find focusing on those small goals works best for me too. I focus on 5 lbs at a time. Less overwhelming that way.

Awesome concept! This time every year, I feel like I start again..... just turned 45 and am going to make this my year. I train for tri's and get plenty of exercise.... but I love to eat.
I am with you. 4 days sounds very reasonable. And now, 1 is done and I have succeeded. 3 to go.
Keep us posted!

Eff the 5%, be the 1% that keeps it off and paddles the asses of the other 4% all the way down the river.

STEVIECAT4 1/3/2011 5:08PM

Yes, that's the way to do it. The way I lost my weight was by taking 5 pounds at a time and concentrating on nothing else. So I really love your philosophy of taking this 4 days at a time. I too put on weight over the holidays and today I started in earnest and I've made it so far and don't feel challenged. We WILL be two of the 5% who keep it off. We WILL!!!

P.S. We're the same weight as each other again!!!!

Fun in Rochester

Friday, December 24, 2010

Yesterday they let us out of work early so I spent the afternoon and evening with CCKELLY3 in Rochester.

KELLY3

We had loads of healthy fun. First we went to a nearby orchard outlet and bought a bushel of Crispin apples that we split

...and some potent catnip. Which I just tested on my housemates a few moments ago and it was definitely enjoyed.

Next we went to the Big Wegmans flagship store in Pittsford, NY and battled the holiday crowd for healthy and tasty prepared food.
www.yelp.com/biz/wegmans-pittsford-2

Then a brief stop for an immoveable appointment for CCKELLY3 while I napped and read, and after that to Manhattan Square Park for some ice skating!

While waiting for the Zamboni to finish we snacked on some really nice sharp cheddar and a variety of heirloom apples:
- Golden Russet
- Northern Spy
- Ambrosia
- Baldwin
- Lady Apple
- Winesap

CCKELLY3 quickly rediscovered her mad skating skillz, while I'm just getting my feet back under me after a long hiatus of my own.

We spent a little over an hour out there, dodging the teenagers pushing each other down, little kids with their parents, youngsters wobbling about, etc. It was fun. I don't think I've ever skated on such rough ice before, ever - it got really cut up soon after people went back on there. I'm feeling it today. LOL

Then we went to Dinosaur Barbeque and had a light dinner that we planned to dance off afterward.

Unfortunately the band was really popular and there was no room so we headed back to her apartment and we attempted some home workouts:

This one was particularly fun, because as a kayaker I could actually DO it:

Holy carp. After about an hour of that I was worn out. LOL

Then we played with her cats for a while and I drove home, arriving around 3am.

Fun times!

More XC Skiing

Sunday, December 19, 2010

Went to Winona State Forest with some friends today. 18 inches of fluffy new snow, beautiful scenery.

Also tried ice skating again for the first time in about 20 years. My boots were so stiff from disuse and cold from sitting in the car that it took about 10 minutes to actually get them on! And I only skated for about 10 minutes. LOL

Sometime you might want to try snowshoeing. It's a great way to be outside. It can get your body temp up in a hurry. It was one of the few things I could do when I lived up north where I would warm enough.
