Recovering from a bad accident.

Monday, June 30, 2014

I wrote a blog about an accident I had that almost killed me. I'm doing a lot better, I'm only the the wheel chair and walker when I will be on my feet for too long of a time. I'm still not solid on my feet but I'm getting there. I have till July 10th and then hopefully I'll get rid of my pick line, which I can't get wet, and finally get back in the pool where I can do some real therapy.

Bad Car Accident

Friday, May 23, 2014

I know a lot of you were wandering where I've been. I was in a bad accident the beginning of march. The medics in the ambulance didn't didn't think I would make it to the hospital. I don't remember and anything for about the first month. That first they had me on some really strong pain killers and they give me vary realistic dreams that I really thought were real. After I transferred out of ICU I went into rehab where I had to learn how to walk again. That has to be one of the hardest and scariest things I've ever done. After I got over my fear, I excelled much faster than the others. I was in the rehab hospital for another month and a half before I finally got out, it's nice to be home.

That is truly a miracle. It's amazing what we take for granted (like walking) until we can no longer do it. I have a feeling that you'll be looking at life through a brand new set of eyes and appreciating every breath you take. I'm sending you healing vibes so that you will be back in "fighting shape" in no time.

Riding the Midnight Madness Bike Ride.

Monday, August 05, 2013

Saturday night or officially Sunday morning at midnight, I did the Midnight Madness Bike Ride, in San Diego. This is THE funnest bike ride I've ever ridden. 17 miles of flat road and the cops, many times will wave you through the stop lights. I've ridden it several times, and I usually ride it as fast as I can, even though it's billed as a leisure ride. The hard part is getting through all of the people ahead of you. There were about 2000 people there. It's amazing how much more energy I get on that ride. It's cool out, not cold and you draw a lot of energy from those around you.

Polar Bear Swim

Wednesday, January 02, 2013

I used to swim in the winter all the time, but for the past 4 or 5 years I've been to far away and besides I'm swimming in an 85 degree pool so I didn't want to even try and brave the cold ocean water. But today I was feeling unusually brave and drove to San Diego for the Annual Polar Bear Swim. It was great visiting with old friends, but It really hurt walking into the water. But after 10 min I felt good and swam for 35 min., about a mile. I was really glad I took the plunge, I wish I lived closer I love swimming in the ocean, it sure beats the looking and the lane lines in the pool. Now that I know I can do it, I hope to do some more winter swims with my swim club. (LaJolla Cove Swim Club)

Wow, you are an example to all! You could be a navy Seal :) Good for you! I love the beach, and used to ride a bike 10 miles at a time, and body surf when I was younger, in Australia. It was cold enough in the summer time though! You go!

What a challenge! What a win! Because when we face obstacles - real or self-imposed - and overcome them, we gain confidence, pride in ourselves and the knowledge that anything is possible. Congratulations!

it has been almost 8 years since I did a Polar Bear plunge (there is a BIG event in February here in Delaware that benefits Special Olympics). I'm undecided if I'm going to plunge this year, but I am going to run in the 5K the day before the big plunge, and it also benefits Special Olympics!
