Woohoo! I did it!

Monday, January 14, 2013

5 years ago I lost 50 lbs.... And gained it right back over 4 years.

Today I am happy to report that I have lost all that weight again..... And this time there will be no welcome mat for it to come back.

Last March I started a paleo diet. Its no longer a diet for me but absolutely a sustainable lifestyle. I lost the 1st 40 lbs in about 5 months.... And another 5 months to lose the next 11. But I'm not giving up. I no longer care how long it takes me to reach my weight loss goals. I know I will get there.

On another note- in less than 6 weeks I will be on my cruise to the sunny Caribbean. So excited!

My dream vacation has always been a cruise! The furthest south I've ever been is Pennsylvania. So you cannot imagine how excited I am to be planning my 1st cruise!!!! A bunch of my firends and I (ladies only- we have a nickname - The Sisterhood of Marge - as in Marge Simpson) are heading out on a Caribean cruise next March. I can't wait -and added motivation to stick to my new lifestyle too!

Living Paleo

Thursday, April 26, 2012

I lost 50 lbs with Spark People 5 years ago, and then gained back Every. Single. Pound. Talk about discouraging.

My paleo journey started as a surprise. I didn't even know what Paleo was- other than seeing the term in some recipes a friend would post on Facebook.

I've been wanting to lose weight again, but had no motivation whatsover. In February, my co-workers started a weightloss challenge, and I halfheartedly joined. I didn't do much with it, but the seed of getting "back on track" was planted. At the beginning of March, my cousin posted on Facebook about a Whole 30 challenge that she was doing. I read the intro, and decided that even I could do this for 30 days. So I did, and as I started losing weight (you're supposed to break up with your scale as part of the whole 30 but I didn't - it kept me focussed) I realized that it really wasn't so hard. At the end of the 30 days, I was 15 lbs lighter, and just feeling better overall. I don't have too many health issues, so I couldn't put a finger on it, but I did feel better.

So I decided (before the 30 days were up) that I wanted to do this forever. I don't have health issues right now but diabetes and obesity run rampant in my family. I am obese, and I dealt with gestational diabetes with my last pregnancy. And I will be celebrating my 40th birthday this September- and while I don't expect to be done with the weight loss, I would like to be in onederland by then.

Some of my research led me to Dr. Kruse's Leptin reset diet which I will be following for 6-8 weeks. I'm in to my 2nd week now. I am now down 21 lbs. In 7 weeks, I've lost almost half of the weight that I lost 5 years ago!

I am going to start walking and strength training this week, because I fully intend to adopt the whole Paleo Lifestyle. I strongly recommend Everyday Paleo and The Paleo Solution to understand some of the science and benefits behind the Paleo lifestyle.

You are doing great!! I would be thrilled to be down 21 pounds after 7 weeks. I know it is hard work but it is so worth it to feel better and have fun with your clothes. It is SO much easier to get dressed when I am thin!!

I did it! Week 1 accomplished.

Monday, August 15, 2011

I'm really proud of myself. I stayed on track 5 out of 7 days, and the days that I did go over, wasn't substantial. And I exercised 4 days out of 7. The result is that I am down 2 lbs- but I forgot to update my tracker last week to show my current weight, so it doesn't actually show as a loss yet.

Fabulous - well done! Any tips? I really struggle to resist naughty foods if they are offered to me - for such a small word, NO is sooo hard to say!!

Good luck on week 2. emoticon emoticon emoticon

1st work week almost over!

Friday, August 12, 2011

Iíve just about made it through the work week and kept on track. Iíve been to the gym 3 times, and debating about going today. My goal is 3 times a week, so Iíll see how I feel at lunch time. We have a gym here at work, so lunchtime is when I work out.
I feel really good about this. I honestly feel like I mean it this time. Little signs - I love potato chips, and usually I just cut them out, and then I get home from work and Iím starving, so I polish off a whole bag. Twice this week, I allowed myself a serving Ė and I stopped at a serving. Thatís huge for me. And I do know that chips arenít a great choice, but at least I managed it.
With the weekend coming, I have to make a plan of attack lol- in the past I have never done so well on weekends- but thatís the past. Tonight, Iím going to make a plan, and stick to it.

Next year, I turn 40, and I will be at goal weight by then. A group of us thatgrew up together are planning a trip to New York City next September because a number of us will be turning 40 in 2012. It will be amazing to be at goal weight for my 40th birthday in September and for my trip in the same month.
