No more 'No's'

Monday, January 28, 2013

I need to change my goals from yesterday. I gave myself too many 'No's'. I knew better than to do that but I did it anyway and today I was slightly crazy so halfway through the day I reminded myself that it's not about what I don't eat, it's just about staying in the calorie range and for me, eating at least 3 fruits and veggies every day.
Today ended up being better than I imagined after the pep talk. I hit my fruits and veggies, stayed in calorie range and hit 20,000 steps!

I turned my "NO" in to "No thanks... I love myself and you are just not welcome in my life! Sorry!"

Exercise vs Food

Sunday, January 27, 2013

I feel like I'm doing pretty well hitting my exercise goals. Now I really need to tackle the one thing that I have the hardest time with - keeping my calories in range. I have been tracking all of my food and trying to hit at least 3 fruits and veggies per day but I very rarely stay within my calorie range. I know what I need to do to eat healthy and I know why I go over my calorie range. Now I just have to use what I know and find some will power to control the sweets I eat, mainly chocolate.

Here's my current plan, which I expect to have to modify more than once, but I'll keep trying until it works:

If I eat healthy all day (3-5 fruits and veggies, no getting overfull at any meal, no alcohol and no other sweets) then I will get 2 pieces of wonderfully awesome Lindt dark chocolate with sea salt before bed!

Try a smoothie with fruits AND veggies in it! Add a little Stevia, and that makes it sweet and enjoyable! You can get your fruits and veggies in one drink!...Then...ON to the chocolate!

I also love chocolate. One trick that I found is that chocolate covered strawberries are the height of luxury for me. I'm eating less chocolate, but feeling much more indulgent. Two birds, one stone.

Staying Positive

Saturday, January 26, 2013

Staying positive is probably the hardest part of staying healthy for me. I am very slow to lose and very quick to gain. (That works great with friends but not so well with weight!)

As long as I am positive about everything, then I am motivated to do what needs to be done, so even if I am feeling a little down, I will try to find something positive to write about in my blog. This is for me and it's one of the best tools I have. It's perfect because with a regular journal, there would be no one to read it and I might let something slide or just quit using it altogether. Writing something that other people can see helps with my accountability but I also like the fact that, if anyone does read it, it will only be one or two people and I always receive positive comments in response. That helps me remain positive and the cycle begins again!

This weekend I will focus on more fruits and veggies and having a wonderful weekend with an old friend.

If you get down, look at what you have achieved. It has taken me 3 years to lose 23 pounds, so don't give up!

Moving Every Day

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

The heart rate monitor and Fitbit are still working wonderfully. I enjoy using them every day to hit my goals. I'm looking forward to upping my step goal to 20,000 steps in February and slowly working on understanding and using the heart rate monitor every day.

Increasing My Steps and Mowing

Tuesday, January 22, 2013

I'm using the heart rate monitor and increasing my steps a bit already. I missed the last 2 days because we had a grown up night on Saturday and I tend to lose all self-control on grown up night. I went out with the best intentions - 2 drinks and lots of visiting. Somewhere in there 2 drinks turned into a few more. It was great fun but I could not move the next morning, much less get in my steps! So I decided today to just try for 18,000 steps, so I could bring my average daily steps back up. I hit 20,000 steps fairly easily. 20,000 is the goal I'm planning on moving to for February and maintaining, so I may try to hit it a few more times this month.

We just purchased a new lawn mower so I thought I'd mow today to increase my steps. I wore the heart rate monitor while I mowed just to see. I've never felt like mowing was that much of an exercise, so I was shocked by the results on hrm. I was in my target zone almost the whole time! Now my yard will stayed mowed more often while I hit my goals!
