Alcohol puts your Metabolism in Slow Motion!

Thursday, December 13, 2012

Who knew?!

I knew that it was not good for you, had tons of calories and I always wanted to eat a huge plate of meat later but it also slows my metabolism!! That's enough of a reason to stay away from it. I always just thought I had to work harder to burn it off but if its slowing an already slow metabolism, then I see no reason to have a drink.
I can't believe I just found the motivation to find another way to relax. (I was listening to Spark People radio for the first time just to check it out and this was the segment I heard).

Wow I did not know that. Lucky me. I have an allergy to sulfites and as almost all wine in the US have it, I had to stop wine. I am not entirely sure that I am still allergic, but I would just as soon not experiment to find out. And since beer has never been appealing enough to me to buy the stuff ... and I only on special occasions enjoy a whiskey. Well, I am nearly a teatotaller. No wine, rarely a beer, an occasional whiskey.

That's one I didn't know. Thanks, I've been looking for stuff to put in my "reasons not to drink" war chest. emoticon

Lots of Fun, Missed My Spark

Wednesday, December 12, 2012

Three days of Christmas parties was a ton of fun, but I just couldn't keep up! Monday was a recovery day for me and today I am back on track. I have messed up on a weekend or two before but this was closer to a week! Thursday night to Monday! Free drinks, great food and dancing!
I don't think I could tell myself everything that happened the last few days much less post it on SP (because it was a spiral of tons of things), but I know it was fun. ( I couldn't wear my Fitbit part of the time because I had no inconspicuous place to put it!)

I'll step on the scale in the morning and see how much damage has occurred!

On a positive note, I also just got my 3 inch step to add to the Wii balance board for the free step.

    Dancing = Cardio
Happiness = higher metabolism
Fluids ;) = fluids/water content

Break the scale, hit it hard, and check in on Monday. I think you'll be better than you think. Our bodies have a way of smoothing out a couple days and staying on track. It's when we do it too many times that they adapt to a new style. Enjoy hump day, eat a salad, and smile about the weekend. emoticon emoticon

Christmas Party

Thursday, December 06, 2012

The Christmas party went well. The kids loved it! The food wasn't very good (which made it easy not to overindulge!) I snacked on some veggies and tried a tamale. The only problem with the not very good food is that we were all starving when we left, so it was fast food on the way home.
We will eat before the next Christmas party, just to be prepared.

I was able to get in an hour of exercise when we got home. Tomorrow, I need to exercise in the morning because we will head out of town in the afternoon to visit with friends. Friday is The Nutcracker ballet! My oldest daughter loves to watch the ballet!

Sorry about the bummer food. Hope you didn't do too much damage with fast food. Have fun at your next party. emoticon

Woohoo Moment!

Wednesday, December 05, 2012

I was scared to weigh myself this morning because I did not feel well yesterday (there was something really wrong with my stomach) so I did not exercise yesterday. I also did not feel like eating yesterday (that's when I know there is something really wrong!) I forced myself to eat a banana for lunch but could not force myself to exercise, so I was afraid to step on the scale this morning. Exercise, more than anything else seems to have the biggest effect on my weight and how I feel.
So I was shocked when I stepped on the scale and realized that I had lost almost 1/2 a pound! The weight seems to be coming off a lot easier than it ever has in the past. I don't know if it's the exercise, Fitbit (which helps me exercise), logging all of my food (though I still need to work on what I eat) or the thyroid medicine. I imagine it's a combination of everything, so I will continue to keep this combination for as long as possible.
There is also the fact that we are finally in a permanent location so we have routines again and less stress.

Today our Christmas fun begins! We have our first Christmas party this evening. Friday, we are going to visit some friends and see The Nutcracker ballet. Saturday and Sunday we have consecutive Christmas parties and next week the kids have their Christmas party!
So much fun!

So what do I need to focus on over the next 3 weeks?

1) Tracking! Log in and track everything! (plus that adds to my Sparkpoints and I'd like to see how high I can get them this month.)
2) Exercise and remember the Fitbit and plug for the laptop to track exercise. (If nothing else, I will walk around the house until I reach 10,000 steps per day.)
3) Have fun!

That's it! Those are my only goals for December.

Good for you. Ride the weight loss wave. Don't forget to write down your goals and take them to the parties. That way you can have fun and still like yourself in the morning.
Don't know how long you've been on synthroid, but mine took a month for the laziness to go away and another month to get me back to full speed.
Hope you have lots of fun at the parties. emoticon

Another Fitbit Update

Tuesday, December 04, 2012

Today my Fitbit is not automatically updating. I am sad. I did very well today. Now I need to go read about why it is not working correctly.

I am happy about my number of steps!

Edit: Got it figured out. Apparently I somehow turned off the Fitbit application on my computer. Everything is good and updated!
