Busy Day, No exercise!

We promised the kids they would see hot air balloons this weekend. So we got up early today so they could watch the balloons go up this morning. My MIL and my Dad came in yesterday. My grandma had a strok this week and we thought she was doing better, but then we got a message this morning saying that anyone who wanted to see her needed to get to the hospital ASAP. So we left and drove 2 hours to the hospital. By the time we got there, she was in the ICU but was doing better. The neuroligist was a little upset when he heard that the doctor had told my mom to contact the family. I had been planning on a visit today to see her myself but with that message we all loaded up and headed to the hospital. Thankfully, by the time we got there she was doing much better. She is not in the clear yet but she has a chance. So after visiting with her and setting up a video chat, so she could visit with my brother in DC also, we headed back to our house with my MIL, brother, SIL and their two boys. We're taking all the kids to see the balloons again tomorrow and then back to the hospital again.
On a more positive note, we had a really good healthy dinner because we already had it planned out so when we got the house my MIL and SIL helped throw it all together. We had island chicken with diced sweet potatoes and biscuits! We already have tomorrows dinner planned out also and I'll have snacks prepared for a day out, so we can eat better during the day than we did today!

  


No Added Sugar with Breakfast & Healthy Pizza Tonight!

I've already tracked my meals and snacks for the day and I'm going to make homemade pizza tonight for movie night! My MIL will ne here and she likes to eat healthy also, so we're going to have a pizza with feta, spinach, tomatoes, onion, and turkey pepperoni on a whole wheat crust and the kids are going to have pepperoni and cheese on a whole wheat crust. I'm really excited because I can try seasoning the crust. I loved Dominoes seasoned crusts, so I'm going to try to recreate that tonight in a healthier version!
For breakfast, I had the oatmeal again and this time I added 6 frozen strawberries and half a banana and NO sugar. Then I blended it together. It was great! I also stopped adding sugar to my coffe but I cannot find my fat free creamer here so I'm still using the full fat version.
I won't track my exercise early because I'm afraid I'll jinx myself, but I should be able to get in an hour on the bike again while the kids are napping!

I just need to keep logging in everyday so I can keep my priorities straight! I'm heading down the right path to living healthy again! Yay!!

  


From Strawberry Oatmeal to Exercise and Nutrition

We turned our regular oatmeal into strawberry oatmeal this morning. We used the magic bullet because we were just testing our oatmeal idea first (plus I haven't unpacked the blender yet!) We cooked a bowl of regular old-fashioned oatmeal and then mixed it up with one frozen strawberry, one tsp of sugar and a bit of milk in the magic bullet. It was wonderful! Tomorrow, I'm going to add more strawberries and leave out the sugar. The kids ate double the amount of oatmeal they normally eat plus a half waffle each this morning!
That Magic Bullet is pretty interesting. My MIL gave it to us a couple of years ago and only my husband had used it so far to make ice cream shakes.
I've been planning on trying a smoothie with frozen strawberries, yogurt and bananas but haven't had a chance yet. Today is grocery day though, so hopefully I'll be able to try it tomorrow.
I feel like I'm doing great on my exercise so far. I've done more than an hour of cardio every day this week! I'm still working toward a goal of 2 hours/day (by the end of September) and then I'll start adding some strength training. :)
I still need to work on eating healthier. I've done pretty well at staying within my calorie range this week but I'm not necessarily eating as healthy as I could be. (A couple of cookies and nutty butty bars!) ;) Today is grocery shopping day, though and my list is full of healthy food that I like, so that should help. I already have my meals planned out for the day, I just need to enter them in the tracker and decide what I am going to have for a snack. (and try to stay away from the cookies!!)

Guilts Attempts at Sabotage

I forget how subtly guilt can sabotage your goals! I have read all the articles about not feeling guilty if you eat something unhealthy or have a bad day and I never worry about those because I don't feel guilty about that. I know me and I expect that I will eat a couple of cookies every now and then or have a few too many drinks occassionally! That's not what makes me feel guilty. What makes me feel guilty is turning someone down. Today I turned away our Schwan's man because I like to place my order online, in advance, so I can make sure I'm getting the healthy frozen food that I love from them like the Tortilla encrusted Tilapia and asparagus. I forgot to place my order early so he came by to see if I needed anything off the truck and I knew not to buy anything at that moment because I was hungry (right before lunch). So I told him no and that I was going to order online for next time. It was so hard to do and he looked so sad! (I'd had to tell him no the previous time also because we were just moving in and still so unsettled!) I didn't know a grown man could look so disheartened. My husband says I'm a big softie and he's right. I didn't let the Schwan's man get to the end of the sidewalk before I called him back. I still tried to be good though! I was just going to get the tilapia and asparagus. The two I remembered off the top of my head and knew we really liked. But he was out of the tilapia, so I ordered the asparagus, some seasoned and diced sweet potatoes and the only other thing I could remember that I liked a lot -- Peanut Butter Chocolate Chunk Supreme Cookie dough!! Ugh!! This is why I order online, at night, when my day has gone well! Maybe I'll make them all this weekend when we have company.

  


Day Three

I thought it would be a little harder to break the alcohol habit but it's our third day with no drinks and today was no problem. I had water with dinner and didn't even think twice about it. Last night we had tea. I'll make another pitcher of tea tomorrow. I really like the plantation mint tea mixed with Lipton Green tea with citrus. I'm planning lots of seafood meals the next 2 weeks, so the only thing I'll be tempted to have is a glass of wine with those! I managed to stay awake while I got my youngest to nap today, so I was able to get in an hour on the stationary bike. I was hoping for some time on the Wii Fit today also, but I'll be happy with the bike time. I've got to take what I can get as far as exercise is concerned with three little kids running around!
