Mother's Day musings

Tuesday, May 08, 2012

If someone where to ask me what I would like for Mopthers Day this year I would without hesitation say low sugar Apple Butter from the Crossville Depot, sprouted bread, eggs or a Kroger card so I can get my own sprouted bread.

Flowers? Sure, but please do not get me cut flowers, look at my front yard and realize I love the ones that grow and produce flowers or vegetables. Besides, I have to go out and walk around and look at them and care for them. That is something I love to do.

My youngest son (he is 16) already has told me what he will do for me and it is truly an awesome thing. He surprised me by telling me we have a date this next weekend to go to the movies and see Dark Shadows. WOW! I did not even know he knew that was something I wanted to see. He has had to pay attention to my Facebook page. Now that in itself is a Mothers Day present that I will always remember. Yes I will remember his taking me to the movies but more the thought that he knows me! He knows ME! He thought about ME and what I would like and came up with this on his own. I am sure this is not his type of movie so this is just for ME!! WOW, am I blessed or what!? Must move on, I feel the tears beginning! :)

So, this year I would prefer something to do with the new me and not something that you think I would like. Yes I do appreciate the thoughtfulness of other gifts but I do not wear jewelry and cut flowers are nice to look at and I always love what I get but this year if you ask it will be something healthy and part of the new me.

I know exactly what you mean.
I've asked for a digital food scale or a new blender (the old one just isn't doing well...lol).
I'd rather have things that are going to help me on my journey than for them to waste money on flowers or cards.
Let me say I think it's AWESOME your 16 year old knows just what Mom wants. That shows you are raising him to listen to the woman(en) in his life & to be considerate of their wants & feelings. That's a greater thing than most can imagine. emoticon

Random thoughts on exercise and results

Sunday, January 15, 2012

Just some random thoughts. Probably should be under the journal entry but here they are anyway.

Just bought Sizzling Salsa to do at home for the 100 Days of Dance challenge. I was actually looking for something more on the lines of Zumba since I just can't see paying the money for Zumba. Well I do not like it!! So I did find out that you can go one line and lots of people put Zumba videos on line and there are lots you can use to help with the fitness. I have found through the challenge that I love Zumba!!

Coach Nicoles videos are just plain awesome!! Some of her exercises can be found on the SparkPeople site and they are very helpful and useful. I just love her. Her videos can be done at 10 minutes a day or you can do one 10 minute video more than once if you need the extra boost or find the one not very challenging. She is just so wholesome and sweet you have to love her!!

Richard Simmons. I do love him too. I bought Sweatin to the Oldies II and found I was not as happy with it as I thought I would be. This past week bought the Sweatin to the Oldies remake video and love it. Both are good but I like the first one better than the second. I can't say anything about his others since these are the only two I have. I especially like the fact that the people that are with him are not all fit and model quality. There are people there like me, overweight and can't find their toes for the tummy! :)

Newest video is one I have heard about and have just did not want to believe it could be fun. But from doing the 5K Walk/Jog challenge last summer I found that walking can be enjoyable. And maybe it has to do with being on the treadmill and enjoying it. But anyway, I just bought Leslie Sansone's Walk Slim 5 Really Big Miles. OMGosh what a great workout and such fun. It is not just walking in place. There is music which is in tempo to how fast the walk is. Then there is the side steps, the tap outs, the grapevine, etc all added in to change it up. If that is not enough, then there is the arm movements thrown in to get you going. And if that is not enough, she has two of her miles with exercise bands added in. Just a good workout. I did the full video last night and my hair was dripping but it felt sooooo gooood!!!

Now here is a thought. Six months ago I was a couch potato or computer facebook junkie and here I am on SparkPeople changing my life and buying exercise videos and talking like I know about eating right! There is no chocolate in my refrigerator and other than tortilla chips no other chips in my cabinets. The refrigerator is full of water, fruit and vegetables. Lots of chicken in the freezer and beans in the cabinets! SparkPeople soups frozen in the freezer for lunches next week. Seven and a half months ago my blood sugar in the morning ran between 250 and 350. Could not get it down. Was put on insulin and upped it to 50 mg a night. I accidentally found SparkPeople six months ago and have since lowered the insulin to 35mg a night and feel better healthwise and am much happier with me!

Where am I today. I am at a place where I feel better about me more than I have in many a year. I have even been offered and accepted other work duties at work. There is talk that they will get me out of the current position I am in and move me to just doing what is new but at this point in my life I have told them that I do believe I can do both and keep up. So far I am doing just fine. Two of the new duties are contests that end December 31st and involve prizes that are considerable and once I get them complete, I will know that the rest of the year will be a breeze. I feel confident I can do this and attribute my new found confidence to what I have learned from SparkPeople! So to end this I say....

What a great blog! You tried something and it didn't work, tried something else and kept looking until you found your speed. That's great! Some people just give up and never get ahead. I'm convinced that you can do whatever you decide to do!!!! Keep going and keep blogging!

What a wonderful bunch of random thoughts. Its so much fun to look back and see just how far we can change in such a short time. We are only limited by the chains we put on ourselves.

Great blog!

Here I am at the start of 2012. What will the new year bring? I hope a renewed spirit to continue and be better at getting healthier and staying that way. I cannot begin to tell how much better I feel about myself even though I have not lost the weight I would have liked to or kept up with the exercise like I should have but I still feel much better and much better about myself.

I can also state that I firmly believe that being a part of this site has made me a better person. I am happier in life and I feel and see the difference in me. I have more tolerance for some things but not as much for the injustices. I also know that I show more confidence and because of that, and the support here, I was chosen and accepted more job duties at work. I really do not want to give up what I am currently doing so it will be a challenge to do what I do and continue to do it well and to take on the new job and to do it well. And to continue to learn more so that when the person who deals with FIDE retires I may be able to take on that responsibility.

Ok, now ask me if I am excited to begin 2012? OH YES I AM!! New responsibilities, oldest graduates high school and starts college this year, my youngest will enter his last year of high school, I am more committed to doing what I need to do to get healthier!

No looking back just looking forward to a wonderful life! Here to all of us!! Happy New Year and great Sparking!!

Manual for Climbing Mountains

Tuesday, December 20, 2011

I subscribe to DailyGood which is an inspirational site that sends out a short story each day. As I read today's I found myself thinking how fitting. I will be starting to learn a new area of the Chess Federation soon which will broaden my knowledge which is exciting. It will be in an area I am not familiar with so it is also scary. Which also relates to the journey to a healthier life as it is scary but along with the scary is the excitement! Ok, so how does all of this relate to Climbing Moutains? Just take a minute to read the article and you will see. Oh, and for the eight week Diabetes Challenge...spread the Spark. The last item in the Manual for Climbing Mountains states..."Tell your story. Yes, tell your story! Give your example. Tell everyone that it's possible, and other people will then have the courage to face their own mountains."

I hope you are as inspired as I was by this wonderful article. So here is the link, just copy and paste:

December 3 Musings

Saturday, December 03, 2011

First I am wondering if there is anyone out there that has a spare $125,000 to give to the Federal Government for me. If you do, let me know and I will forward the credit card form that they have sent me. And my family and I thank you.

Now on to things that you probably can help me with. :) I am seriously thinking of joining Kirstie Alley in dancing for the first 100 days of 2012. I think it would be a great way to start the new year and a great way to start each day and maybe to continue after the 100 days are over. Was just thinking, I think I will make a list of 100 songs to dance to. Then post them where I will see them first thing in the morning. Then play and dance! My biggest fear is that January 1 will come and go and so will the next day and next and next and then sometime in the middle of the year I will say....oh snap!! I forgot. So, if I do the list and put it on the wall, hmmm maybe a 100 - 1 day calendar that you pull the days off, designed around the songs. I think I might be on to something here for me. I like it. Now I just have to do it. Maybe when I get it done I will share it on SP. The more I think the more I like. Yep, This is doable for me. Who wants to join me? Maybe I can charge money to get the Government their money? JK JK!!

Well it is now 59 degrees outside and just about 3 hours of good sunlight left so I think I will head outside and geocache. Really don't know what I am doing can at least go out and try and see. I have found one but had help! Or at least get some more activity in. Have done 20 minutes of strength today and one hour on treadmill at 3.3 and 1 elevation! I also have dinner on in the crock pot so I am pretty set for the rest of the day. Ok on to finish my day. Hope everyone has a great Saturday full of meeting goals!

I actually have an app on my Iphone that I use when I am out running around. I am new at this and have only found one. I have looked for another just above the house here but have yet to find it. Has to be in a tree somewhere, at least I think so.

I like the post it notes as it would be quicker and faster than doing the calendar. But I have been working on my list of songs!! The internet has some great lists to pick off of too. Yes I do like this idea and think it is a great way to start a new lifestyle change to get one up and moving. I am excited!!

I like your 100 days of dance idea, and I like Judi's idea as well. Let me think about it. I may join one or both of you.

Wow, it sounds like a great Saturday line-up. I haven't tried geocaching yet, but have looked into it. Do you get your locations off the website?

Your 100 days of dance gave me an idea. To write something down on post it notes, and then rip one off each day. I will have to give this some thought!

Have a great time with your remaining daylight.
