299 For a Limited Time

Thursday, February 25, 2010

Yes, just like a commercial or a sale at a local drive-thru "299 for a Limited Time!" The numbers on my scale haven't moved in a week for me. This is very strange, I have consistently had great numbers over the last 6 weeks, but that number hasn't budged at all! I reflected over the last week and pondered, what have I done differently? No much, all though at times I feel ravishingly hungry.

Within Caloric Range - Check
Exercise - Check
Water - Check
Tracking Food - Check
Blogging - Check
Good Nights Sleep - Check
Stress Management - Check

So what's happening? That number on the scale still reads 299, UGH, the evil scale. If I only thought of that number, I might be ready to just throw in the towel but I realize, it might not reflect in the number but something wonderful is happening in my body. My clothes fit better ( I can wear clothes, I haven't been able to wear in such a long time), I have more energy, I am enjoying exercise (usually), I am eating better, I am loving water... good things are happening.

So today, I begin my special.... "299 for a limited Time." I will continue to work towards being a healthier person and creating a healthy lifestyle for myself and my family. The battle with the scale will have to wait, eventually, all the good choices will catch up with number on the scale and my daily special "299 for a Limited Time" will end.

P ushing myself

I really needed to read this. Like you my scale has been stuck and won't move except in the wrong direction. I've done the food logs, exercising and eating right and still nothing on the scale. So I guess like you I'll have to ignore the scale for now and just concentrate on keeping it moving in the right direction. Thanks for the post; I really, really, really needed it.

Hang in there!! My scale hit 302 and didnt move for 3 weeks! I wasnt getting in all my calories and I was exercising too much i cut back on the gym and made sure I had all my calories, but above all I kept faith in my plan. I guess I just had to let my body catch up with my motivation. But once I got past the plateau I started droping weight like it was hot, 9lbs in 9days. You can do it!!

Keep it up! Must be in the water because I can't budge past 179 to save my soul! I had a great 3 lb. loss last week and this week NOTHING. BUT, I am continuing to eat healthy and work out and can feel it in my clothes.

Hang in there, you're doing great! emoticon

I totally, completely FEEL your pain. I cannot seem to budge below 160 no matter what I do (this must be a REAL set point that my body likes). I cut back on calories, exercise ... but I'm not giving up either because I will get to 130 if it kills me. But the 30 may take longer than the 85 before it did .... but hang in there!

Know that while the scale isn't moving, I'll bet the measurements are. You have done a fabulous job and the fact that you blog and are honest with yourself about how you feel (as opposed to hiding how you feel under a mound of mexican food)is movement in the right direction. You keep it up!

Take heart, it will come off. I have lost two pounds a week for the first two weeks, then only one pound this week. I stepped off and on the scales two or three times and even moved around on the scale, but nothing changed. Not dragging out the tape measure yet. I want a full month to go by. Hang in there and good luck!

I enjoyed reading your blog. The scale can be such an enemy at times. It is times like this, that my husband reminds me that the numbers I may be seeing on my scale could be muscle and what is wonderful about muscle, is muscle helps a person to burn more fat. Perhaps that is what is going on in your body.
I loved how you used an acronym to share your upbeat approach to life.
Keep us updated with your journey. I will cheer you on to victory.

Keep at it! Your body will hold on to water when you exercise a lot, so that might explain your weight not changing. Try using another form of measurement such as measuring inches.

I am at the same plateau myself this week and I have decided that I am only going to weigh myself once month. Instead i am going to concentrate on how my clothes fit and how I feel myself. my motivation is still there and I am now coming to the end of my second month and I feel better than I have felt in a very long time. I am eating better than I have done in years and I am talking more exercise now than I have done since I was free and single which is a very long time ago.

Therefore we are both doing our best and it will pay in the end we know it will!!!!! emoticon

Don't fret....you are just getting better and better... and the scales will reward you in their own time. But who cares about the scale anyway? You know that what is really important is the lifestyle. And you are a role model in that regard. Like I said....AWESOME!

Good attitude! Hang in there...I can't tell you how many times I plateaued over the past 2 years and briefly thought "what if I never lose another pound?". Well, of course that didn't happen and eventually the scale number moved again. But it sure is frustrating when it happens, isn't it? Just strive for good health. Give your body good things and treat it well with good exercise and it will be good to you. Don't let the scale discourage you. As you have seen, clothes are fitting better. You'll feel better, too. My motto is "be patient...this isn't a race". :)

I finally put the scale under my bed and it will not come out until the first of the month and I hope I will have caught up by then. in the mean time, I can't wait to check my measurements because I know my jeans are really comfy this week. why do we give so much power to that dumb machine

Cheesy Eggplant Parmesan 172 Calories 4.71g Fat

Tuesday, February 23, 2010

Eggplant covered in a zesty tomato sauce, smothered in cheese and full of crunch.

Let me just say "Oh My Goodness, this is GOOD!" Not only does this satisfy the desires from something packed with crunch, but this zesty and cheesy eggplant, is a great way to mix things up for dinner. Not your ordinary same ol' same ol' when this is served!

This was a great way to mix things up at dinner, we ate this as the main dish and enjoyed a side salad and a small baked yam. What a hit at the dinner table. I really really enjoyed this one!

Two Thumbs Up for Taste and Presentation!

I guess eggplant can be a little intimidating if you have never eaten it. It is actually a fruit, but is eaten as a vegetable...its belongs to the tomato family, and well most of us consider that a veggie, right? Eggplant comes in a few different colors, purple, white and green. It has a soft texture and is very bitter if not cooked thoroughly. You find it in a lot of Asian and Italian dishes. Eggplant is often used to replace meat for Vegan meals. It taste great baked (you can slice it, spray both sides with non stick spray (feel free to sprinkle garlic, salt & Pepper, bake at 375 for 10 minutes, flip, spray again, and bake another 10 minutes - very good.) It kinda has the texture of zucchini or squash.

Not sure if I sold you, but its really good. It's all about trying new things, right???

A Constant Battle

Monday, February 22, 2010

Last week I accomplished several HUGE goals:

31 Pounds Lost
Entered TWOVILLE
No Smoking in 6 weeks
Consistently cooking and eating healthy
No Fast Food in over 6 weeks
No Candy Bar in over 6 weeks

I'm not sure what happened, but somewhere in the excitement of getting under 300 pounds, it seems like I have lost my stamina and my focus. I have to admit, I feel like I am living in the Night Before Christmas except instead of visions of Sugar-Plums dancing in my head, I have been seeing:

Pizza
Cake
Burgers
Fries

Oh my, I just want something fried, I don't care what it is, anything fried is good. For crying out loud, at the State Fair they had Fried Butter. Anyhow, I haven't caved but I feel so close. My workouts have been so drab, I haven't put a lot of energy into them.

Monday rolls around and its time for a workout, I went, I didn't want to go but I put my girl pants on and headed to the gym. Naturally, I felt so much better after working out and I can proudly say that I worked out harder today than I have in the last 3 days.

I know I will make it past this, I am completely focused on becoming a healthier person this year. Even becoming a healthier person, it doesn't change that I want foods that are not so healthy. Yesterday, I made a homemade pizza, which was 99 calories a slice, it wasn't my favorite, of course, it didn't compare to Pan Crust Pepperoni, Bacon and Jalepeno Pizza I was craving. I am going to work on it again, when I find a hit, I will post a recipe until then... I will keep trying.

I've decided to sit down and refocus. I am here today because I have one to many times in my life given into that Burger, Pizza, Fries, Cheese Sticks, etc. These foods will never ever go away however, I will in my journey find the balance. I will understand moderation and recognize what my body is truly hungry for.

For the time being, I must continue to do my best to eat healthy and stay away from foods that are not healthy for my inner athlete.

I am here to change my life and giving in right now would be to similiar to going back and giving up.

I am not gonna be the one on the floor, food will not conquer me another day of my life. To continuing on my journey and working towards my health.

You are doing great. Anytime you have theses feelings wait 10 mins if you still have them, they are a craving. If they go away, they were an urge. Every once in a while you can give in to a craving, but finding a healthy substitution is a good way to handle it. If you are craving something you need to ask yourself what exactly you are craving. The FEELING you get from the food or is it a nutritional thing? Protein? Carbs? what? Taking stock of why we have these cravings helps to put them in perspective. If you are craving candy dark chocolate, which is healthy, good for you in small increments and full of anti-ocidants is where I turn when I get that feeling. One little piece( 30 to 50 cals) usually does it for me and then the feeling goes away. I also like Swiss Miss no sugar added Hot Cocoa, 60 cals a glass, filled with as much calcium as a glass of milk, and also helps ward off the sweets temptation. Grat blog. Keep Sparking, Paige

You're going to make it! I have done the same thing with no fast food in over 6 weeks too! But I do however still eat Subway very often- but only the ones with 300 calories and 5 grams of fat! I had a candy bar last week for the first time in 5 weeks! It's ok to have just one but have will power! You're doing awesome! I hung a picture of my old self on my fridge and its a picture of my husband and I when we first started dating and it's a reminder of where I want to be minus a few more pounds! So You can do it! Of course you'll have temptations, but I hear that if you stay eating healthy then the temptation to eat foods that are bad for you actually goes away. I quit smoking 10 years ago and I thought the desire to have a smoke would never go away,BUT IT DID!!!!!! Also stopped eating fast food and that desire went away too----now about the candy emoticon---ya know dark chocolate is GOOD for you(in moderation:) You sre an inspiration!!!!

It must be the week where we start seeing visions huh?? I've been all over the place this week. from wanting to eat anything (but not) to not wanting to work out (bus pushing it and doing so) to feeling like I should stop here and deal with it, but I am not. Honestly as hard as this is for you, I am glad that it's just not me sitting in this rut. It's horrible, but I am so glad to know that we ALL go through it, and that we'll all be here to grab one anothers hands and pick them back out of the rut too. We can do this! emoticon emoticon

Thank you so much for posting about this. I am trying so hard to get back into the swing of eating healthy. I hate giving in to fried foods. Thanks for reminding me its a constant battle, for ALL of us. I'm not alone. I'll think of you, especially today as I focus on this one day of success. :) Because you also reminded me of accomplishments I had forgotten, like already losing 16 pounds, not eating fast food or ice cream or chips. I did have both fast food and ice cream once each, but only once! Other than that none in 4 months. And I had forgotten that.

You should be doubly proud you've stuck to a healthy lifestyle AND stopped smoking to boot. That's amazing.

Hey, try a Turkey Bacon, spinach and jalepeño pizza instead. Or, do baked sweet potato fries.... they are awesome. If you deprive, deprive, deprive, you are going to cave. Trust me... I've done it so many times before.

Love your writing style! Trial and Error on the pizza will eventually get you that winning pizza that you can have and enjoy soon! I don't know if you like portabello mushrooms, but I use that as my pizza and then use homemade sauce (pureed tomatoes w/seasoning), parmesan cheese and "sauteed" veggies and small cuts of pineapples lay them all out and then bake it... it's really good... you may want to try that and see if you like it. I even tried it on pita bread, too. I just like the portebello mushroom, it gives it a meaty bite! Best wishes to you!

Hey girlie - great work on the weight loss. I gotta tell you - hope this will help. After a while, if you pay attention to how your body "feels" after you eat the deep fried stuff you won't crave it any more. I say this from personal experience. I remember being at a fish fry with friends one day and picking a big piece of deep fried fish off a friend's plate. He told me there was no fish - it was just deep fry crap...my response..."Yeah baby! What could be better!" Just deep fry the deep fry and i will eat the heck out of it!

Now I am starting to pay attention to how my cravings make my body feel - one day on vacation last week we had a big plate of deep fried shrimp (shrimp is good right? lol)later that night my tummy was yucky and I did not feel great. the next night my sister in law wanted to have some fish fry thing and just thinking about how i felt afterwards made me say No Thanks!

You hang in there and start really listening to your body and what it tells you when you eat poorly. Also - have you read The Spark? The part about a downward spiral was really relevant to me.

Also - my friend Gina and i get together once a week to do SP time - we can include messages to you if you want - we have a very cool friend in England - SP Lizzie888 she might already be a friend of yours - we all try to support each other at the minimum of once a week. We will include you if you want.

And oh - btw I will so be making that new wing recipe for my man this weekend! Thank you for that! Sounds yummy yummy yummy!

I understand EXACTLY what you mean, when I got half way on my weightloss 318, it was such a high goal when I got there I relaxed and stayed there in that area for about a month. Now I'm finally back on track.
I'm giving you a "new" goal 275, and you have to get there before me (ya that was me throwing down the challenge, LOL).
You have the added pressure because you have put everything in this blog for all to see, you have caused us to care about you, AND WE ARE CHECKING ON YOU EVERYDAY :)

REMEMBER
Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.

One of my volleyball players (a freshman girl who hadn't seen me in about 2 1/2 months) walked by about 35 minutes ago and was shocked. She said out loud and repeatedly "OH MY GOSH, Coach is so skinny!!!" Now I weigh 306.5 lbs I really dont "feel" skinny, but coming from 436.5 lbs and having her genuinely "shocked" was probably the coolest thing that has happened in a long time.
THAT "FEELS GOOOOOOOOOOD

You are doing a great job, don't let a "craving" derail the progress you are making. You will be allowed fried, greasy, yummy foods when you get to 10 lbs BELOW your goal weight so you can munch all the junk food you want and still stay below your goal (just know it will probably make you sick, HAHA).

I am standing next to you in this challenge.
DON'T LET UP, RIP IT UP
Dennis

Steph--it's so hard to be good but you can do it! If you have a craving, give into it but in a healthy way. If you want fries, make your own and bake them in the oven--just like your craving for pizza--make your own.

Last night I want a burger from Red Robin so bad that I made turkey burgers and killed that craving.

I hear you about not wanting to exercise some days, but I go and feel better afterwards too! emoticon

I noticed on your blog you said you hadn't found a low-cal ranch dressing you liked. I don't know if it is available in your area but I like Bolthouse Yogurt Dressings. ( http://www.bolthouse.com/ ) I noticed that the regular Bolthouse dressings were as many calories as the low cal regular ones and taste way better. Their Chunky Blue Cheese has 70 calories per 2 tbsp (of course almost all of that is from fat but that's the nature of the beast, I think).

As a dip for wings I use the Bolthouse Yogurt Dressing, Ranch or Caesar, with grated parmesan cheese.

Shrimp Primavera 327 Calories only 8.33g of Fat

Friday, February 19, 2010

Who said the days of succulent rich Alfredo sauces were over? You can enjoy every bite of this dish without any guilt and folks, no extra workout required for this dinner. We ate this with a nice salad on the side. YUM YUM YUM, did I mention YUM?

This is something I just threw together, somewhat playing in the kitchen and oh boy, it was a hit! You could also add other veggies like thinly sliced bell peppers, green onions and capers, I think the green onion and capers would be a great combination with the shrimp. If you don't care for shrimp, just hold the meat or dice up a grilled boneless skinless chicken breast.

This meal was a delight, it was very filling and no fuss in the kitchen, very quick and easy.

TWO THUMBS UP on Flavor & Ease.

To get the recipe, please check out my blog on blogger at
