Grocery Savings

Saturday, April 18, 2009

1) I mostly buy in bulk with non perishable items. Costco has been great sending out monthly coupons. So I usually buy the paper products, pasta, cans, and meat there and divide out. This keeps me from making frequent trips to the store, which in turn keeps me from impulse buying.
2)When I do have to go to the store for something I always make a list, check the ads, and make sure I have a coupons. This helps to stick to a budget. My co-workers and I have started a coupon club where we all bring in coupons that we don't want and share them with the community. That helps with building up the coupon collection.
3) This last item I'm still working on. However, I have found that preplanning the weeks meals helps to cut down on impulse buying and it also cuts down on buying items that will eventually waste because it doesn't go with anything.

A year that answers....

There are years that ask questions, and years that answer.

This was a quote on my Beliefnet email I received today. 2006 was not the best of years but I am still able to look back and recognize the blessings that presented themselves in my life. And even though my blessings were all gifts from God I am reminded by a good friend of mine that God helps those who helps themselves. With that in mind I am determined to fight for more and all that me and my family deserves. There have been enough questions, this year I am going after those answers.

The Meaning of Empty Calories

Friday, June 09, 2006

The term was one that used to fly over my head without anymore than a sniff in it's direction. It doesn't apply to me. I exercise and don't have to worry. Something made up by the diet food industry to make more money. All these thoughts mixed with thoughts such as, Boy the dryer really did a number on these jeans. No matter what I do, how much I exercise, I just don't lose any weight. This must be what my body is to do genetically. And the classic, this scale must be broke.
In talking with a good friend of mine earlier this month (she knows that I am Sparking my way through this journey) we discussed how after changing our eating habits we've found that we are no longer hungry every 2 hours. The healthier foods kept us full longer and we have found that we no longer crave fast food. Everyday, mundane, ordering has become somewhat of a challenge because looking at the menu no longer has us giddy with hunger and want. This was bigger than a neon sign in Vegas. I am no longer dependant on "Empty Calories." It's one of the most liberating admissions that I have ever made. And I will forever be grateful for the fateful day in February that I decided to not let that term fly over my head any longer.

Today I found out I gained back a pound. My mentality is that I'm still lighter than before so it's not to bad. Also, I've lost at least 3% body fat. I can see my body getting leaner so that helps too. I know that this will pass. It's just been so hard trying to eat regularly. Yesterday, I didn't eat anything until almost noon! Gave me a huge headache. UGH!

This is the first consistent "diet" I have ever tried and I'm loving it. I would like for this new found inspiration to follow me into everything I do.
