WHY?

Sunday, October 05, 2008

WHY DOES LIFE HAVE TO BE SO DIFFICULT? MY HEART IS ACHING AS I FOUND OUT TODAY MY SON HAS DIABETES AND HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE AT AGE 29. I GUESS I AM FRUSTRATED AND I AM MAD AND SAD AND ALL THE OTHER THINGS A MOTHER CAN BE WHEN YOU HAVE TRIED YOUR HARDEST TO SET A GOOD EXAMPLE AND TELL YOUR CHILDREN WHAT CAN AND WILL HARM THEM AND THEY DON'T LISTEN. I KNOW, I SHOULDN'T BLAME MYSELF FOR HIS NOT TAKING CARE OF HIS HEALTH, BUT I DO. I FEEL AS THOUGH I HAVE FAILED IN A WAY THAT I LET THIS HAPPEN TO HIM AND KNOWING AT THE SAME TIME I WAS NOT THE CAUSE. I SAW ALL THE WARNING SIGNS AND POINTED THEM OUT TO HIM AND HIS WIFE FOR OVER TWO YEARS AND TO NO AVAIL. I FEEL BATTERED AND BRUISED AND HELPLESS IN THIS, IT IS SOMETHING I WILL WORK MY WAY THROUGH AND WILL LEARN FROM BUT RIGHT NOW I WISH IT WASN'T HAPPENING. I JUST HAD TO TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO WRITE DOWN WHAT I AM FEELING AND TO TRY TO MAKE MY WAY THROUGH THE FOG THAT HAS SETTLED OVER ME TONIGHT. I KNOW I AM NOT ALONE IN THESE FEELINGS BUT SOMEHOW ONE DOES FEEL ALONE AND HELPLESS. I WOULD LIKE FOR YOU TO KEEP MY SON IN YOUR PRAYERS AS HE IS NOW ON THE JOURNEY TO SAVE HIS LIFE AS I WAS ON THE SAME JOURNEY A FEW YEARS AGO.

Sandy ~ Hugs and prayers to you and your son.
We do our best to be good parents, yet our kids still make their own choices, good, bad or indifferent. Be there for him as now you are the example he needs. Your new found knowledge will be a big help to him.

Thank goodness they found it now, as you know good food choices and diet can reverse this. It did in my 95 year old MIL.

I am so sorry to hear about your son, and his medical problems. I will keep him in my prayers, as well as you and the rest of the family. You must not blame yourself for this developement - you can give advice till you are blue in the face; but if they don't listen to it, then you can not be responsible for their actions ! But I know being a mother ( for some strange reason ) gives you a license for feeling guilty when something sad happens in their life. No matter how old they may be, you will always be looking out for their well-being ! That is a mother's God-given right ! I'm sure, with the right diet ( and maybe even medicine ) your son will do just fine ! Don't worry yourself so ! ! ! emoticon

I am so sorry... You do the best you can to help your children but the final choices are theirs. My oldest son is heading in the same direction but he doesn't listen to me, either. I will certainly keep your son and your family in my prayers. Luckily we live in a time where medicine can really save your life. I am sure with proper diet and medical attention your son will come through this. I think he may be more willing to hear what you have to say now.... God bless and keep your chin up. You are definitely not alone. You have many Spark friends who really do care about you. Don't ever forget that!

My thoughts are with you & your son. But please know that he has a great model in his Mom: someone who turned her life for the better and had/has the commitment to follow through and maintain those changes. emoticon

WELL DARN! SURE WISH I KNEW OF A WAY TO MAKE HIM LISTEN, BUT HE HAS TO LEARN BY MAKING THE MISTAKES HIMSELF... SIGH! YOU ARE SUCH A WONDERFUL WOMAN THAT I KNOW YOU WILL CONTINUE TO BE THERE FOR YOUR SON THROUGH THIS VERY TRYING TIME. I JUST HOPE HE REALIZES HOW MUCH YOU LOVE HIM AND THAT HE WILL REALIZE THAT JUST LIKE YOU HE TOO CAN CHANGE HIS LIFE FOR THE BETTER.

granni, sorry to hear about your son,s health. now he will have to watch what he eats and exercise. i know we don,t listen til it happens, i,m the same way i,m pig headed. lol. he,ll have to get into more veggies and less strach and watch his bread. it runs in the family and relatives does he have to take needles or a pill. we will keep him in our prayers and you. it,s not your fault now just help him coupe with it and keep your eyes open when he sneaks something.it,s in our family too mom was and grandmother and grandfather on dad,s side and aunts and uncles . so take care and get some rest.talk to you later.katie

I am so sorry to hear about your son it is not your fault
as a mom of 5 I know first hand how hard we are on ourselves but... he is an adult and has been for awhile now so he has made his choices right?!!! you can be there however; for a support system right?
what is his name ? I will be more than glad to pray for him and the challenges he will be facing my prayers are with you too ,be sure to take care of you !!! its hard to when we are worried about our kids
no matter how old they are !!! we are still their mothers just because they reach a certain age it doesn't stop our love from them!!! and wanting to protect and keep them healthy and happy

Sure will keep him in my prayers. No matter how hard we try our children rarely listen to us. He's a man they think they are infallable, I know about the harping to no avail and I feel for you. It's a mom/wife thing. I know you will be sad and upset and that can't be helped, but don't let it effect your health my friend. emoticon
