Our son came home for a visit and brought his two year old dog, Lola, with him. Our three cats were so thrilled to have them come. It is amazing how much more alert they are while the dog is in the house. So, I thought I would take Lola on a run with me today. The temperature was in the upper 80's with a nice breeze blowing and the sun shining bright and we had a good pace going for about 2 1/2 miles and suddenly she went to the side of the road in a shady spot and plopped down in the grass and would not move. So, there we were, she was resting and I was antsy & wanted to get on down the road. She did decide to get up, so we went on, me thinking we would be able finish. Little did I know that Lola had other ideas; we went @ another 3/4 of a mile and she spied yet another shady spot on the side of the road, went over and dropped down on the freshly mowed grass. By then I knew that she wasn't going anywhere until she was good & ready, so I took a seat and tried to explain that we were REALLY close to the house and if she would just get up we'd be there in a very few minutes. FINALLY, she got up and I reeled in the leash so that she had to stay at my side and not find another shady spot to plop down on. We made it back home, I dropped her off there and finished my run on my own.
I had taken her on a longer run when she visited at Thanksgiving and she was pulling all the way, so I was a little surprised today by her actions. Maybe it was the difference in the temperatures, regardless we had a beautiful day.

My youngest daughter gave me a first class jump rope for Fathers Day. She had me try jumping rope on my last visit when she took me to do one of her Crossfit sessions. I had never tried to jump rope before and had little success at it, so she had me do a different jumping exercise in place of jumping rope. When I first tried to jump the rope (actually it is a plastic covered cable attached to a pair of handle with ball bearings) I had pretty much the same result as when visiting her, but with practice I am happy to say that I am improving. I am now jumping more than 100 times in succession and I plan to soon attempt "double unders". It just goes to show that you can teach an old dog a new trick if he wants to learn. Why not try something new today?

I have been on Spark for three years now, but have only been seriously pursuing my healthy lifestyle for the last last year. It wasn't that I eat healthy foods for the most part, or that I didn't exercise, because i did do both of them. However, I did not track my food or my exercise and I was completely surprised to see how many calories I was consuming and how many more calories I needed to burn in the coarse of a day. Once my eyes were opened to these two important facts and I began to make changes, my weight began to come off. It has not been easy and I did not expect it to be, but I do have my goal weight of 189 very near. I am truly grateful for the wonderful and accurate guidance that is available here on Spark, bet more important to me are the friends and support that I now have. Thank you all.

When our youngest daughter, Kate, came home from her first day of kindergarten, she announced that she had made a new friend, Hannah. Over the next few weeks and months, our son, Josh and Hannah's brother, Josh, became good friends, as did the mothers and dads. We lived in the country and the lived in the city, but the father and sometimes the mother would come out to our house and we would walk together. A house down the road from us came on the market and our friends bought it and lived there for seventeen years, until they moved out of town.
During those seventeen years, we walked and walked and walked....... We did other things too, we ran, we road our bikes, we back packed, we hiked and we even did some "Adventure Racing", and of coarse all of the training that went along with that. But mostly we walked. Sometimes, just three or four miles, often five or six, but our favorite was on Sunday morning at 5:00 we would walk eight and a quarter miles before going to church. After their move I have continued to walk, run, bike and hike, but the routes and trails are lonely.
Last week our friends were back in town to visit. Their daughter still lives here with her family, but before they had gotten here, my friend called me on Saturday morning to see if I could walk on Sunday morning before church. Of coarse I could, so a little before 5:00 he came out and we got our walk in. He wanted to see a little more of the old stomping grounds, so we walked nine miles in just under two hours and got some good catching up done as well. It was a truly blessed time.
They are moving again in September, but this time to Peru, so it doesn't appear that we are going to have many more opportunities to get our walks in, but I'll always be ready whenever they come back home.

This morning when I went to spin the wheel I noticed that there was a space with 20 points on it. That is unusual, my wheel typically runs 1-5. So I spun the wheel, and what do you know, it landed on the 20. YEA! Also, today is the day that I got 25 points for a 30 day anniversary. So, YEA! YEA!
I hope you ALL have a great day!
