1 New Year, 1 new Life.

Friday, January 07, 2011

Last year was a disaster with my weight lose. I actually gained back a lot of what I had lost. Most of the weight gain occurred during the time that I was sick last year. Seems like each time I was out for a whole month at a time. And because of the pain I had, I spent more time doing nothing then doing what I should to stay healthy. I fell short of all my goals because of this. The year ended with me having an operation which made the whole month of December a negative month because the doctor told me I could not exercise.

Well! Starting on January 2 the doctor told me I could start back up with my cardio exercises. I worked with the therapist to find out what I could do and still stay in my doctors guide lines and he came up with exercises I can do. So my goal is for an hour of cardio a day. Either at the gym or walking. I still have a several months before I can start back on the strength training which has been essential at helping to reduce my pain. But until then I am committing to an hour a day, six days a week, of exercises.

I am hoping that this year well be great and I will be able to stick with my goals.

Elaine, I let my illness bring me down to the point where I was 100 lbs heavier then I should be. I lost 50 of it but then was sick a lot in 2010 and gained most of it back, Now I am trying again to bring it back down. This time I have more limitations then I did before but I am working through them. Thanks to a great physical therapist.

I can Relate ! wow , how many times do we need to do this right?

I had major injury in May of 2010....fell through a deck up to my knees where the knees stopped me from going all the way through. I didnt break a bone ,but I tore my hamstrings and sliced up some nerves. Suffering and in pain I sat and ate alot !
it was the only pleasure I could find.Well the 30 pound weight gain did not help my pain and now I am in more pain than ever! so I am on my way to losing weight . I can feel it in my soul !
But I need help....and support as we all do !
Good luck on your journey !
Elaine

Been there, done that and I didn't even have an excuse. Pulmonary Fibrous and the desire to breath is making me try again. If we did it once we can do it again! emoticon Kay

I had abdominal surgery in May of 2010... it's tough getting going again, huh. LOL

I'm still dealing with issues. I ended up with a MAJOR vitamin D deficiency that added 35 pounds! UGH! Now I'm taking 50,000IU TWICE A WK, and at least I've stopped gaining... but I have all that to lose all over again! YIKES.

I'm glad you're moving ahead again... I'm right there too! YAY!

I KNOW you're going to have a GREAT year--I know that's what I'm planning for me too! LOL

One Year Now

Friday, January 23, 2009

It has been a year since I actively started to use Spark People. Tracking what I eat has really taught me to reduce my portion size because I could see how much I was eating was creating meals that has way to many calories.

I have been walking at least three days a week and since November I have been getting a workout at the Physical Therapy Gym to try to losen up my stiffness and reduce my pain.

All and All between the watching what I eat and the walking and exercising I have lost forty pounds.

I have found that participating in the groups has been highly motivating. I have made friends that have had a great influence on me and really helped me to do this. And I have found that I can also help others.

Spark People has been wonderful. If you use it you will benefit from it. If you do not use it you will not have the benefits of others helping and motivating you.

Mark I'm so proud of your success. You are a real encouragement to me. If you can make it I surely can too. When it starts cooling down I'm going to start walking more. Maybe even do some mall walking three times a week. You truly do motivate me to get back on the wagon. Thank you for being a friend. emoticon

That is great the you are walking more. I know that when you first start out the arthritis will hurt more but as you keep going you will find that it does lessen. The temperature changes seem to make it hurt more than walking. Congrats on the weight loss. emoticon

Walking

Friday, March 14, 2008

I was told by my doctor a year ago to start walking. Because of my Arthritis and Asthma this was real difficult. And because of the pain and the difficulty breathing I could barely make it to the end of our street and back. I really did not have much motivation to do this because I let the pain stop me. Three months ago my wife's Doctor told her that she need to also walk. She has been sticking to it and increasing the amount that she walks every day. This motivated me to start doing the same thing. I started out walking just down to the end of our street and back three times a week. Then it became a trip around the block. Then a half mile. then a mile. Two weeks ago I made it to two miles and started walking every day instead of three times a week. What is amazing is that I now have less pain in my back, More energy and am in a better mood. And I am finally really starting to lose weight.

My doc never suggested it. I think he gave up on me. BUT here I am and I've lost over 50 lbs and am walking for up to an hour. Just start slow and keep it going. Best thing I ever did. V.
