During my journey in weight loss and what I have acheived or not achieved yet, I learned some things and had some ah-ha moments. There is a beautiful saying in the motivational pictures on Sparkpeople that explains the difference between interest and commitment and I remind myself of it often. It's so true. When we want something so bad we can taste it, NOTHING will get in our way of getting it. NOTHING. But when we could "take it or leave it", we allow other things to take priority...it may happen eventually, but it's not important if it happens today.
Interested = One day of pigging out is okay. I'll get back on track tomorrow. It's my Birthday after all...or it's Friday...or it's Christmas....etc "IT'S JUST ONE DAY"
Committed = I have tracked and preplanned my food for today & I might treat myself to a treat after lunch/dinner because it's my Birthday..1 TREAT...not a whole day blitz!
Interested = I can't be bothered working out today - the gym is too busy - it's cold out - it's hot out - it's raining....etc.
Committed = I have a gym membership, I have a dog to walk, I have an umbrella or a hooded sweatshirt, I have a Wii with active games, I have a swiss ball, I have DVDs, I HAVE NO EXCUSE!
Interested = Water not in - forgot to take vitamins - didn't track my food
Committed = EXTRA water drank - Vitamins pre-packed and taken - Food pre-planned for the week ahead
Interested= I don't want to offend anyone so I will just eat whatever they serve
Committed = I offer to bring a big a$$ fresh salad and ask what is on the menu. May pack a cooler with a chicken breast incase they serve meat...but most people know I don't eat anything with fur :) I bring my water bottle. I take a protein bar in my bag all the time so I'm not stuck or forced to eat crap or starve.
Interested= I don't have time to pack a lunch and I'l just grab something at work. OR I don't have time for breakfast
Committed = I preplan all meals and get cookbooks to get ideas on breakfast and lunch ideas so I don't get bored...I love The Biggest Loser ones :) Get it together the night before.
Interested= Can't wait to go to the movies and get snacks!
Committed = fruit, cut up veggies, hummus, air popped popcorn, and my water bottle are packed.
Interested = I don't care that it's 10 pm at night...I am bored/sad/anxious/stressed and I NEED something to munch on
Committed = I write in my journal, blog in SP, talk to a supportive friend, read a positive book, watch GI Jane or another motivational movie and have a cup of hot green tea.
Interested = I know what I want to weigh but I won't tell anyone incase I fail or quit. If people know, they will judge me when I am eating something not on plan..etc
Committed = I tell everyone, I have a goal poster with my goals listed and pictures, I track my progress...etc I know because I am committed for life, I have no guilt, no worry of judegment, and only worry about my daily to-do's :) I'll get there! :)
Interested = I can't eat the way I should because I have a husband and kids and they want_____ instead.
Committed = I pre-plan the meals and post them in the kitchen, if hubby doesn't want, he can make his own dinner and the kids are kids so they will eat what mom says and help mom pick meal plans and help make the dinner so they know how to eat healthy too.
So...these are just some that I have realized lately. Maybe you have too...or maybe you're still just interested...
