Finally Starting To Move Out Of The "All Or Nothing" Headspace

Thursday, July 14, 2011

I have somehow gained some extra focus and motivation since July 1st. I have been on track 100% everyday until yesterday! Someone brought homemade Carrot cake muffins into work for our bosses Birthday. I haven't had baked goods in like at LEAST a year! I love to bake...but I also love to eat...so I just don't bake anymore. Even healthy things! It's easier NOT to. I digress....

I ended up having 2 cupcakes. they weren't the typical heavy carrot cake recipe. they were light and lovely and I really enjoyed every morsel! And I realised today that after I ate them. I still stayed on track the rest of my day! usually I would bail the rest of the day because I already messed up. I think the no carbs after 3 pm helps me with this improvement in headspace. If you get your "treat" in early in the day, you tend to burn it off...plus amp up your veggies and water and stay on the plan...and I only gained 4 oz! :) And that is important because I am still on course for my goals...where in the past with ALL OR NOTHING, I would have just done whatever and gained more today...then went to the movies tonight planning on going off the rails a bit...but because 4 oz is a breeze to drop today, I will stay on plan at the movies. I am stopping at Subway on the way and will bring my water with me. :) Feels good but weird!

Tomorrow we are going to a friends for dinner. usually they cook clean and healthy which is such a nice change...but I offered to bring a big healthy fresh salad (so I can eat heaps) and if they were making red meat I would bring a chicken breast, etc. I have told them I'm not eating carbs after 3/4 pm...and I have stuck to this and it feels great. I have always said if I am going off plan it's gonna be because of something I REALLY WANT...not just because someone is serving it. I always bring a protein bar with me everywhere as well incase I don't like what they are serving. I'll head to the bathroom or car and snack and only take a small serving of what I want at their house.

So...it IS possible. Who would have thunk it!?

I'm still tackling portion and proportion control, but eventually I'll get there!

That is a hard place to get to - congratulations!!!! emoticon

It helps so much to keep your goals in front of you and remember that having a 'treat' every now and then doesn't mean you have to throw in the towel!

Thinking you're basically fit and then someone proves you wrong! LOL

Sunday, July 10, 2011

I am strong. It takes me a week of cardio to get in the groove and not winded...and I really thought I was pretty okay! Then I went to Karate Class...day 1 for me today...Oh my. The cardio warm up was intense and to no surprise to myself...I still suck at doing proper pushups...so girly ones it was...but for my first test I have to do 50 of them! Proper! Lordy! And then the height of kicks and the consistent movement....I am already sore and it hasn't even been 12 hours yet! LOL God help me tomorrow...But I am determined and motivated. I love the challenge and having something to strive for.

Tomorrow is Monday...work...going to bed early tonight smelling like BenGay/AntiFlamme :) I'm a nana! :)

Movie Treats for Someone Determined!

Saturday, July 09, 2011

So I went to the movies today with a friend/client today and I brought salads, grapes, water, apples, and mixed nuts. No popcorn was purchased! We saw Bridesmaids and it was freaking hilarious! Laugh out loud, snorting, crying, almost peeing ourselves!
After the movie we did decide to have a hot chocolate and I had the Chili Hot Chocolate...very yummy...but I got so sick afterwards! OMG...that'll teach me! LOL

Anyway...great day! Going To see Harry Potter Friday night and might have popcorn...we'll see. It's not like the movie popcorn in the states...I miss that popcorn. A lot of the time, I pop my own and bring it along. We can bring food and drink into movies here! :)

Have a great weekend! I have my first Karate Class tomorrow morning! Nervous and excited! :)

My parents never let me have food at the movies unless we brought it with, so luckily, that is not something I battle with. I'm glad you're having a good time. Best wishes for your karate class! :)

I've always liked to bring snacks because I don't like paying their high concession costs. The difference is, now I try to bring healthier snack. Good planning!

I have begun bringing trail mix, dried fruit and bottled water into the movies. I know the theaters here in the states don't allow this but then they should consider offering healthier options at the concession stands! Their lost revenue but my improved health!

Several little long awaited treats!

Thursday, July 07, 2011

I am very excited about something very silly! I have been hunting for Kale for almost a year....I found some today and made Kale chips... and loved them...and so my non-veggie loving man! They are not common here...but I have been looking and spreading the word and now I found a place...1 place...LOL

They also had Agave nectar!!! SCORE!!!! Finally!!!! :) Again....looking forever for some!

And Last night....I found ORANGE ROUGHY! Oh my goodness....I haven't had any since I lived in the states 5 years ago!!!! It's $35.99 a kg but I don't care...$7.00 for a fillet and it was worth it! :)

I found a karate school that I loved and inspired me and got my Gi today :)

Probably really mundane for ya'll but it's all made me smile!!!! :)

It's so rewarding when you finally find food you have been hunting. I haven't tried the kale chips yet---fairly common to find kale in the summer in the states for sure.

Once Was Hard...No Longer So :)

Monday, July 04, 2011

I was going through some papers and a box of all my fitness and nutrition notes, etc and I found something I tried to do several years ago and found almost impossible...but when I read the checklist now, I thought...Oh my gosh I do this almost all the time now! AMAZING. We thought it was too rigid...too strict...couldn't possibly live like this! HA! YES...YES I CAN!!! It was called Fitness 15 and it was put on through Balance Protein Products when I worked at a gym. Here's yourr daily checklist...the more things you accomplish everyday, the better your results!

1. 20 minutes of cardio (at least 65% of your heart rate)
2. Personal program - weights, etc
3. 5 Servings of fruit & veggies
4. Protein with every meal
5. 3 Liters of water everyday
6. No White Flour products
7. No added sugar/sugary drinks
8. No Carbohydrates after 3 PM
9. No fried foods
10. No added salt
11. No alcohol
12. No saturated fats
13. No food after 8 pm
14. Use Balance Protein after your workout or to replace a meal
15. 5-6 meals throughout the day

So...it seems like it's crazy when you read that and you aren't eating a clean diet and/or you're eating lots of packaged and processed foods...I love salt and sugar and thank god, I have never drank...but seriously...this is how you should be approaching each day except for several days a year when you treat yourself. It's amazing what changes you can make and how far you can change for the better in such a short time! WHOO HOO!

It's so cool to look back and find a list like the one you shared and reflect on how much you have grown and changed as a person. If you don't mind my asking, I am curious about the "no carbs after 3pm?"

Best wishes to you for continued success.
