Heavy during the Holidays

I know I won't be able to avoid the food that will be coming into my office over the next month or so but I can try and make healthy choices. The holidays are always hard on me because I can't seen to say no to food. I have come to accept that I have no will power. Zip, zilch, nada. If you put food in front of me, I will eat it even if I don't really like it. Take yesterday, I met up with friends for lunch and I got a grilled cheese sandwich and it came with homemade kettle chips. I don't like chips but they were on the plate so I ate them. I am trying to take control of my eating and failing miserably. The only thing I have going is that I have been able to maintain my weight and not skyrocket, but really who wants to maintain 260 lbs?

My 35th birthday is in March and I would really like to be on a road to being healthy. I bought the Sparkpeople activity tracker and I might actually take it out of the container, clip it and use it. I am going to try and hit the recommended daily 10,000 steps (approx 5 miles). I am STILL dealing with plantar fasciitis and a falling arch in my left foot which makes exercising painful but I have been looking at swimming options and I seem to be fine if I walk at my own pace and not on a treadmill so I will make that my work out. Walking 10,000 steps/day and swimming when I find the time between school and work to make it to the pool a couple towns over (the ones in my town are attached to our high schools and always crowded with teenagers).

    Hi sweetie. Just wanted to stop by your page, and tell you that I have faith that you can say no. It isn't easy, but sometimes helps to be prepared. Bring something to work that you can snack on when those naughty foods are brought in/out. Fill up as much as you can on the healthy snack you brought, and if you really want some of the naughty food, then have a (very small) piece of whatever you want the most to curb the craving you haven't been able to bust.

I learned on the Paleo diet that eating a good protein/fat (such as a paleo deviled egg) is a really good way to curb a sweet craving. I loved the Paleo diet, it was just too expensive to maintain all the time, but I felt so much better! If you have any questions about it google Whole30. Life Changing.

Summer Melt Down

In order to keep myself on track to losing 65 lbs by September, I have joined the Summer Melt Down Challenge for one of my SP groups to lose 10 lbs by June 10th. I really hope to have lost more than that but 5lbs/month is a healthy way to do it. I weighed myself earlier this week and it was not a pretty sight.
I am tracking my food and walking a little bit, hopefully more once I go to the doctor next Monday.

April 2013 - No more Fast Food!!

I finally have family support so hopefully I can stay dedicated to eating right, exercising and lowering my stress. Following another SP friend in her journey to go FF free for the month of April I have also taken up this challenge. I realized I did not eat 1 dinner meal last week that wasn't FF or take out.

I have set a goal to be either 200 lbs or under by mid-September when I am taking a very long deserved trip to Florida with my husband to visit my grandparents (they'll be turning 90 this summer) and I want to be comfortable in either shorts or a swimsuit. Our plan is to spend most of our time with my grandparents, but A wants to drive down to Miami (Hialeah) and visit some old college football teammates. Also in the plans is to spend a couple days in Orlando and go to to either Disney, Universal Studios or Sea World/Busch Gardens and I want to be able to walk around and not get tired.

I have started today with tracking my food and water (I am almost 64 ounces in already) and aim to head back to the gym. Why is it that I always injure myself before going to the gym? I have managed to bruise my shin bone (a week ago and the bruise is just starting to form on my leg) and the cortisone shot in my foot has warn off so I have to remember to really stretch before walking so I don't re-injure my foot.

Good news my cold is just about gone and I can breath and feel just about human again!

    I have noticed that I always get a cold right after starting exercising - it's weird. But it's gone now too and I am plannning to hit it hard with the exercise - keep the faith!

New Year...New Me!

I have decided to do a complete restart (deleting all my past blogs, redoing my goals, etc). I am going to devote this next year to making myself a better me. I am going to start with getting myself healthy and devote time to myself. I need to make myself healthy so I can be a motivation for others in my family to do the same. I have finally gotten everyone in my house (hubby and mom) on the same page and we are going to eat healthier in 2013 and cut out the fast food and processed food and incorporate lean meats, fruits, veggies and healthy grains (so long processed white bread). I am also going to try and curb my sugar addiction and my Starbuck's addiction and go to the gym on a more regular basis.

A spark friend mentioned the 52lbs in 52 weeks plan she is doing with WW. That is also my goal to be healthy and lose 52lbs over the next year. I weighed myself on January 1, 2013 and I was 262.2 lbs. My goal for January 1, 2014 is to be 210.2 lbs or less (maybe even 1derland?). I have a vacation planned for late summer to go to Florida. I would love to comfortably wear the cute tankini that I bought at an end of summer sale.

My work is starting a Biggest Loser competition again and this time I want to actually weigh less at the end than when we started (I somehow gained 4lbs over the 3 month period we just finished, so much for using it to curb my holiday eating).

I have the Shamrock Run 5K on my 34th birthday this year and I have signed up to jog it. I will train to jog but I will not train harder than my foot allows me to. I will push myself but not enough to re-injure my foot. I do not have the time to be out with surgery (as that is what the doctor told me would happen if the tendon gets inflamed again). I will work to find that medium where I am pushing but not hurting myself. I will learn to love the elliptical (even if I think the thing wants to kill me).

    You can do it! Just take it slow and listen to your body so you don't accidently make your foot worse. I know exactly how that goes, I am the queen of injuries. Foot injuries are evil.

The elliptical is great! Such an amazing workout without all the hard impact. I've also found that using a midfoot strike while running decreases the impact on my joints. I haven't quite mastered it so I look like an idiot, but it's the only thing that doesn't irritate my achilles. If you're heel striking, it might be something to look into.

I'm in Portland too! I haven't signed up for the Shamrock yet, but if I can get through the next couple of weeks without injury I'm planning to sign up. If you need a running buddy/cheer team, just let me know. emoticon
