I am looking forward to the winter challenge, but am also glad to hear it is starting sometime soon. I am having surgery on Jan. 15, and won't be able to do much until around the first of Feb., so the wait is good for me. In the meantime, I will continue to endeavor to stay out of trouble and off the streets!!---------

President Barack Obama issued an executive order to end the pay freeze on federal employees, in effect giving some federal workers a raise. One federal worker now to receive a pay increase is Vice President Joe Biden.
According to disclosure forms, Biden made a cool $225,521 last year. After the pay increase, he'll now make $231,900 per year.
Members of Congress, from the House and Senate, also will receive a little bump, as their annual salary will go from $174,000 to 174,900. Leadership in Congress, including the speaker of the House, will likewise get an increase.
Here's the list of new wages, as attached to President Obama's executive order:
"A new executive order has been issued providing for a new pay schedule beginning 'on the first day of the first applicable pay period beginning after March 27, 2013,'" reports FedSmith.com. "The pay raise will generally be about 1/2 of 1%."

And the timing isn't great either: Just as President Obama and Congress try to avert going over the "fiscal cliff," he doles out pay increases to federal workers.
UPDATE: According to a senior Republican congressional aide who has reviewed the executive order and consulted with the Congressional Budget Office, Obama's pay raise will cost $11 billion. "The CBO told us that the Presidentís pay raise for federal workers will cost $11 billion over ten years," says the aide.
The aide explains, "On the cost-estimate, CBO says the (discretionary) cost of the .5% pay-hike the President is calling for in the Exec Order Ė relative to a freeze Ė is about $500m in FY 2013 and $11 billion over the ten years from FY 13 - FY 22. The reason why the FY í13 savings is only $500 million is because the pay hike as proposed by the Presidentís Exec Order would not go into effect until April 1st, 2013 - when the current CR expires. So it only covers half the fiscal year. The annualized cost of the pay hike is about $1 billion/year
Somehow this just doesn't ring as a great thing to me.
With literally millions of Americans out of work and living in poverty, we have a President who authorizes PAY RAISES for those who got us in this mess, who refuse to balance a budget in four years, refuse to even vote in the Senate, continue to act like spoiled rotten children with obviously no care whatsoever as to the well being of our country.
Hey, all you Obama voters....................now that we are ALL getting our taxes raised, and he is demanding another $600 billion for spending (with no explanation what the money is going to be spent on, refuses to deliver a WRITTEN OUT cut in spending................are you happy yet????
And all you Republicans that didn't vote at all............how comfortable are YOU in your own skin now??????????/
Are you all frightened enough to DO something about it other than point fingers and blame??

Imagine if the *GOVERNMENT* gave 'US' the same support they give to other countries.

Taxpayers are forking out $4.8 million for 35 union officials at the Department of Transportation. But the beneficiary here isnít the taxpayer, itís President Obama, who is raking campaign cash from these unions.
According to documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act by Americans for Limited Government, 35 officials, representing mostly air traffic controllersí unions, are members of the $100,000 club among federal employees.
Unlike the average American, or even average DOT employee, these union officials draw an average $138,000 in salary and benefits from the federal government, not to give something of value to the taxpayers, but to work exclusively for their unions ó the National Air Traffic Controllers Association (Natca), the AFL-CIO-affiliated Professional Aviation Safety Specialists (Pass) and two others.
Eight make more than $170,000. The lowest-paid gets $80,000. That means taxpayers are actually paying for union efforts to shake down taxpayers for ever higher salaries and benefits for government workers.
Average controller compensation for the 20,000 or so federal air traffic controllers totaled $166,000 in 2006 and has been forecast to rise towards $200,000 in the next five years, according to a study by the Heritage Foundation.
By contrast, the average American makes $50,000 and the average DOT employee makes $70,000.
I truly do not believe the unions have any business being in the White House. It is all political powering, and does not serve the people it supposedly represents.
There was a time when Presidents stayed out of union business, unless strikes crippled (or threatened to cripple) the entire country.
There was a time when Presidents were interested in the entire country, not a select few who would love to see us go Socialist.
Before Socialism is chosen, one should study that type of government very carefully, and look at the countries who have it.
Are their people free? Free enough to live where and how they want? Are they free to choose their own careers? What is the crime rate in Socialist countries? Do Socialist countries even HAVE a "middle class"? Are Socialist countries REALLY give the people an even playing ground?
Only if that playing ground is either on the mountain top where the select few are richer than any king or prince, and the rest of the people live in hovels, scraping out whatever they can just to stay alive.
There was a time when unions were indeed very necessary, and a good thing for our country. That time has passed.
We now have employment laws on the books, as well as workplace laws which give safety a primary concern for its workers. There are maternity time off and child care laws on the books.
Employers can no longer work the people like Scrooge did to the nice Mr. Crockett.
Employees earned their raises based upon their work performance and time on the job. That can still happen, and indeed does in many companies.
We ought not to be so restricted and "lawed" that we can not terminate employees who are dangerous or harmful to others on the job. We shold be able to fire those teachers who sexually abuse children, or where entire classes of children do not even learn to read. We should get rid of those teachers who practise politics in the class room while not teaching our children the Constitution or American History.
Union bosses are now thugs, getting rich off the people they are supposed to represent, and inciting riots instead of talks. The union collects big payments from its very people, but then turns around and donates that money to political election hopefuls. This is not what the people pay their dues for.
Better they should bank their dues and gain interest on their hard earned money than to give it to so-called "LEADERS" who grow rich off the backs of the workers.
Before you blast back at me in anger, research the above. You can begin with going to Investors Business Daily reports, which is not allied with any political agenda. Employment laws are easy to find on the internet. You can even find them under individual states.
After you have done your research, ask yourself this question: "How well does this really work for ME"?

This is an actual letter sent to a man named Ryan DeVries regarding a pond on his property. It was sent by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Quality, State of Pennsylvania . This guy's response is hilarious, but read the State's letter before you get to the response letter, you wonít stop once you start. WOW Love this man.
SUBJECT: DEQ ... File No.97-59-0023; T11N; R10W, Sec 20; Lycoming County
Dear Mr. DeVries:
It has come to the attention of the Department of Environmental Quality that there has been recent unauthorized activity on the above referenced parcel of property. You have been certified as the legal landowner and/or contractor who did the following unauthorized activity:
Construction and maintenance of two wood debris dams across the outlet stream of Spring Pond.
A permit must be issued prior to the start of this type of activity. A review of the Department's files shows that no permits have been issued Therefore, the Department has determined that this activity is in violation of Part 301, Inland Lakes and Streams, of the Natural Resource and Environmental Protection Act, Act 451 of the Public Acts of 1994, being sections 324.30101 to 324.30113 of the Pennsylvania Compiled Laws, annotated.
The Department has been informed that one or both of the dams partially failed during a recent rain event, causing debris and flooding at downstream locations.. We find that dams of this nature are inherently hazardous and cannot be permitted. The Department therefore orders you to cease and desist all activities at this location, and to restore the stream to a free-flow condition by removing all wood and brush forming the dams from the stream channel. All restoration work shall be completed no later than January 31, 201 3 .
Please notify this office when the restoration has been completed so that a follow-up site inspection may be scheduled by our staff. Failure to comply with this request or any further unauthorized activity on the site may result in this case being referred for elevated enforcement action..
We anticipate and would appreciate your full cooperation in this matter. Please feel free to contact me at this office if you have any questions.

Dear Mr. Price,
Your certified letter dated 11/17/ 12 has been handed to me. I am the legal landowner but not the Contractor at 2088 Dagget Lane , Trout Run, Pennsylvania .
A couple of beavers are in the process of constructing and maintaining two wood 'debris' dams across the outlet stream of my Spring Pond. While I did not pay for, authorize, nor supervise their dam project, I think they would be highly offended that you call their skillful use of natures building materials 'debris.'
I would like to challenge your department to attempt to emulate their dam project any time and/or any place you choose. I believe I can safely state there is no way you could ever match their dam skills, their dam resourcefulness, their dam ingenuity, their dam persistence, their dam determination and/or their dam work ethic.
These are the beavers/contractors you are seeking. As to your request, I do not think the beavers are aware that they must first fill out a dam permit prior to the start of this type of dam activity.
My first dam question to you is:
(1) Are you trying to discriminate against my Spring Pond Beavers, or
(2) Do you require all beavers throughout this State to conform to said dam request?
If you are not discriminating against these particular beavers, through the Freedom of Information Act, I request completed copies of all those other applicable beaver dam permits that have been issued. (Perhaps we will see if there really is a dam violation of Part 301, Inland Lakes and Streams, of the Natural Resource and Environmental Protection Act, Act 451 of the Public Acts of 1994, being sections 324.30101 to 324.30113 of the Pennsylvania Compiled Laws, annotated.)
I have several dam concerns. My first dam concern is, aren't the beavers entitled to legal representation? The Spring Pond Beavers are financially destitute and are unable to pay for said representation -- so the State will have to provide them with a dam lawyer.
The Department's dam concern that either one or both of the dams failed during a recent rain event, causing flooding, is proof that this is a natural occurrence, which the Department is required to protect. In other words, we should leave the Spring Pond Beavers alone rather than harassing them and calling them dam names.
If you want the damed stream 'restored' to a dam free-flow condition please contact the beavers -- but if you are going to arrest them, they obviously did not pay any attention to your dam letter, they being unable to read English.
In my humble opinion, the Spring Pond Beavers have a right to build their unauthorized dams as long as the sky is blue, the grass is green and water flows downstream. They have more dam rights than I do to live and enjoy Spring Pond. If the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection lives up to its name, it should protect the natural resources (Beavers) and the environment (Beavers' Dams).
So, as far as the beavers and I are concerned, this dam case can be referred for more elevated enforcement action right now. Why wait until 1/31/2013? The Spring Pond Beavers may be under the dam ice by then and there will be no way for you or your dam staff to contact/harass them.
In conclusion, I would like to bring to your attention to a real environmental quality, health, problem in the area It is the bears! Bears are actually defecating in our woods. I definitely believe you should be persecuting the defecating bears and leave the beavers alone. If you are going to investigate the beaver dam, watch your dam step! The bears are not careful where they dump!
Being unable to comply with your dam request, and being unable to contact you on your dam answering machine, I am sending this response to your dam office.
