Don't let Sleeping Dogs Lie!!!

Sunday, August 14, 2011

Hey Spirited Underdogs! This post is for YOU!

What's the deal with letting other teams beat us with our goals??????

We are the fasted team in the challenge, so why are you sleeping the time away????

You got in to this deal because you wanted to lose and be healthier. So why are you sliding back to your old ways????

Do you need a visit to the vet to see what is causing the laziness????

How about this challenge: Post a photo of you doing your workout of TODAY.

If you need more inspiration, there's a brand new tennis ball for the dawg who does the most exercise minutes this week. So far today, I have 120 minutes of walking in, and will get more at the ball game because we are going to park one mile away from the stadium just so I CAN WALK!

We need to band together and get our show on the road!!! Move it while you CAN. I walk because I CAN, and so CAN YOU!

Get those shoes out from under the bed and leave the house NOW! Don't forget to take your pedometer with you. And don't forget to drink lots of water, too.

You go, girl! Have fun at the ball park; we saw a GREAT game there last night (Mariners beat the Red Sox 5-4 with Felix on the mound). Hopefully the Mariners can do it again today for you, though there will probably be as many Red Sox fans there today as Mariner fans!

You are doing awesome, my friend; keep whipping those Underdogs into shape and getting those minutes in! I haven't posted all my fitness minutes for last week, but you probably DID beat me on them. We are probably going to get in a 2-3 hour run plus a lot of walking during the day today, so this week may be a different story . . .

Who's Minding the Store???

Friday, August 12, 2011

We all know the old tattered saying "when the cat's away, the mice will play". Well, the mice must be having the time of their lives!

Amid all the shenanigans in Washington, all the "crisis" we are in, all the drama, the intrigue and hidden agendas, Americans are supposed to be tearing our hair out over all the castrophes.

We got hoodwinked on the debit/budget thing, which actually wound up to be the same old shell game. As usual, Congress gave us some good sounding talk, but still did their own thing, which was to immerse us into a greater hole.

Lots of subterfuge going on, that's for sure!

We have border problems, debt problems, credit problems, budget problems (for God's sake........let's not have a BALANCED BUDGET!!), no budget in site, magazines pulling cheap shots with photos and labels, we are in three wars (at least), entitlement problems, unemployment sky high, people with no homes or jobs, people hungry with no food or money with which to buy any, Gore screaming his head off with profanity while he throws another temper tantrum, the press sniping at any and all candidates for Presidency and bypassing any of the important stuff, and we are getting "polled" to death, a President who has decided he can do whatever he wants without the consent of Congress while his wife eats ribs and french fries while trying to make into law what WE eat. And the stock market is the newest roller coaster of death in the world.

Marie Antoinette would have loved it.

We are fast approaching becoming the richest third rate country in the world.

The list can go on and on.

So what does our illustrious President and Congress do?? TAKE A VACATION, OF COURSE!

Don't forget, we get to foot the bill. It will not be a surprise to learn that our Presiden't vacation will cost at a minimum one million bucks.

So what can we do about it? Nothing, you say?? Not True, Fellow Americans.

There's plenty we can do. But it will take reinserting our back bones and dare to stand up to the corruption that is so wide spread in both parties of Congress and in the white house.

An election is coming up, as we all hear constantly. We NEED an election! The sooner the better.

We need to get rid of the CONGRESSIONAL ENTITLEMENTS first. They need to get the same medical We get, and who in hell ever decided to give them all raises again this summer? They are all out of control with their raises, chauffers, private health care, and lifetime body guards and full pay after they retire.

Pay for WHAT?! Pay for destroying the credibility of our country? Pay for not doing one damned thing about unemployment other that point the finger at each other?? Pay for passing laws which the people find out about AFTER THE FACT??? Pay for all their trips, expensive lunches while their aids do all the work for them???? THIS list could go on and on, too.

They all need to get their butts back to Washington and actually EARN their pay. Unheard of, I know. But we, the people, need to demand they get back to work.

Our nation is on the slippery slope while they, like Nero, stay home and fiddle.

Americans, we need to take back our power. We need to vote these crooks out. We need to throw the thugs out of office.

We need to get involved!

Today, just for inspiration, I invite you all to join me in listening to a day of Patriotic music while you go through the hours of your day. Reflect on what each of us wants for our nation, and how we can help achieve that.

There is always something one can do for our country. Fly the flag. Wear red, white and blue. Go to your town meetings. Re-read the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Make notes about how these two precious documents are in jeopardy and are being ignored, abused and ridiculed.

Educate yourself, America! Learn what is actually going on, and what it means for our country.

Volunteer in your own communities to serve those less fortunates. Get into your closets and pull out all those clothes that are just hanging there and haven't been worn for a long time, and donate them to homeless shelters.

Clean out the pantry, and get the food over to the food banks. Buy a homeless person a meal. For those of us who CAN, give the gift of a night's lodging in a motel to a homeless person. I am sure they would love to have a hot, soapy shower and nice clean sheets on a comfortable bed to lie in.

Sit our children down, and tell them about our nation's history. Visit a military cemetery with them, and have them put flags on the graves, or at the least, pull the weeds that grow over these brave heroes.

Let our children know that we, as adults, American Adults, are going to do whatever we can to leave them a better world than what is happening to them now.

Be a role model to our children, our neighbors, our families and our community. Get involved with doing the right thing.............for fun and for FREE.

No one is left minding the store but us, folks. Let's get the brooms out, and start cleaning!

Thank you for writing this. I hope it becomes the most popular blog post. Everyone needs to read this. I would participate in a team Citizens against Obamanomics. I too hope we get a new group of congressmen next year. I think the new republicans voted in last year are making a real difference. I also think that congressmen should not be paid or at least not paid very much. If there weren't so many perks and pay maybe they wouldn't be there for 40 years. That is just ridiculous.

Thank you for writing this! We need a complete change in the oval office. I have never been a political person but this election, I will be out there campaigning for anyone who runs against the current president. It just makes sense to me that if you spend more money than you take in, you will be in debt. DUH! The more we talk to them, the more they might listen. Americans are angry and we need to show it! And love our kids and grandkids.

How to solve the Debt

Friday, July 29, 2011

Dear Mr. President,

I heard you say you will not guarantee SS checks if the debt ceiling isn't raised.

Why is it the scare always has to do with SS, Medicare, & our Soldiers pay?

Why not stop your pay, your staff, or Congress and the Senate to save more money for our country?

Why use Seniors, Soldiers, & our Needy as examples?

Take the money from those who take no risks and reap the benefits!!

Instead of threatening to withhold Social Security, VA and disability payments of people who really need the money....

Again,,,Lets hold the paychecks of the Executive Branch ( White House staff, all of the Treasury and the Fed),,all House & Senate members and their staff, along with the Judicial Branch and their staff,,,then see how fast they resolve the debt ceiling crisis !!!!!

That would be Leadership by example...

If you agree repost this & keep it going across the whole USA.

Thank you

Kendall has it right. Next election, we need a Mom to be president! While we're at it, lets fill congress up with a bunch of Mom's too. Then the country would be led by people that have had to worry about paying bills and having enough left over for groceries. People that understand the concept of not buying something if you cannot pay for it!

Dear LazyButt12010, It is my personal belief that "paint splattering all the Government buildings! And thats just the beginning!" is a very NEGATIVE thing for Americans to do. It is immature, destructive and costs US money to get it all cleaned up. It is not a solution to anything! Picketing.....OK. Destroying OUR public buildings....NOT OK!!!

I am not buying anything until I have money placed in my bank account! I will not pay any bills either. Anyone with me? Dont shop, dont pay your bills! Esp dont pay any taxes..and see how long the Government can hold out! Because if the states dont get any tax revenues, the Government workers wont get paid! I wodner what they will do if a fire breaks otu or a car accdient or any police problems happen! You thought it was bad in England, France and Greece, just wait til the Welfare people and those crazies who dont get their social security/ SSI checks! Were all crazy and have nothing to lose!

I know I can survive on my can goods and frozen stuff for at least a year! I bet the Government wont last a week! I hope and pray my check is in the bank by Monday! Oh we will be picketing at City hall! And paint splattering all the Government buildings! And thats just the beginning!

I agree 100%! Let congress and the executive branches go without a paycheck for 6 months and see how they like it. The presidential election can't come soon enough and anybody running against Obama ought to win! Please and I hope so! In our paper last week there was an article about a program that was stalled due to a snafu in government payment. The program was a $20 million plan established in 1996 to promote democracy in Cuba! Are you kidding me? That is $20 million that is just thrown down the toilet. Democracy in Cuba won't happen until all of the Castros are poking daisies up from the grave, and then maybe not.

I agree! I still think we should put Dave Ramsey in charge of the country. He knows about how to get people out of debt. You are definitely right that until it really hits home congress and the president don't have a clue and won't see the perspective of the people.

I'm with Kendall...if we, the middle class, decided to run this country, I think we could do a lot better job than the jokers in Washington! I mean, hell..we balance our own budgets, we live within our means, and we make concessions when our budget doesn't allow of us to exactly what we wish. We compromise with our spouses and children and on top of all of it, we know what it's like to to middle class. I think I read somewhere that 40% of Congress are millionaires....that tells me that they forgot long ago what it's like to be where we are. And I'm not talking just one party...I calling them ALL out!

Editing my Foods Favorite List

Wednesday, July 27, 2011

Today I decided to take on a task I have been avoiding for over a year. I decided to edit my Food Favorite List.

I was absolutely amazed as to the foods I had on there!

As I went down my list, I deleted a whole lot of stuff I used to eat on a regular basis.

Like: Snickers candy bars
Almond Rocha
English Toffee
Lipton onion soup (I make my own now, with a whole lot less salt!)
Buttered movie popcorn (always bought the BIG bucket and got refills)
Whipped cream
hot dog and hamburger buns (I now eat the skinny whole wheat ones)
Costco apple cinnamon muffins (that was a hard one to give up!)
Costco blueberry muffins (not so hard to give up)
Jimmy Dean sausage emoticon
Jams and Jellies (except for mint apple jelly when I have lamb chops, which is about once every three years.)
Bottled sweetened ice tea
Donuts! emoticon
potato chips (I now buy the air popped potato slices when I DO buy them)
French toast
Regular sour cream
chocolate macadamia nuts emoticon
deep fried fish and seafood.........INCLUDING fish sticks!!! emoticon

I did, however, keep Oreos on the list. I'm not ready to take them off, even though I haven't had any in the house OR in my mouth for four months now.

I didn't want to go overboard with deleting EVERYTHING that put me in need of Spark all at one time. I mean, EASY DOES IT, right??!!

I took off a lot of other stuff that I can't recall just now, but it really gave me insight as to the changes I needed to make, and with Spark's help, have made.

No wonder I was overweight, and no wonder I am getting in better shape now.

Spark!! You definetly have changed my life...........and all for the better!!!

I did that awhile ago. It didn't break my heart too much. But I looked at your list and cried alittle. So many of your favorites were also mine. Especially Costco muffins. Every time I visit, I go for a good sniff but don't buy. It is amazing how we change on this journey. emoticon

It's pretty revealing to go back and look at that favorites list, isn't it? I used to have a lot more prepackaged meals and fast food on mine, but those haven't been needed in a long time. Just the act of tracking the food on SP has made us a lot more aware of what we eat. Way to go!

Minestrone Soup and Unfinished Chores

Friday, July 22, 2011

Do you ever get the feeling that there is too much going on in your world?

I do.

I have been "off" for the past 3 weeks due to illness. Now that I am feeling much better, I am realizing what HASN'T gone on during my "absence".

Laundry did not happen.

We had house guests for a week and both beds have to be stripped. laundered and remade. All the towels need the same, including the kitchen towels.

Plants did not get watered. They need pruning the dead stuff off, a good slow soak and rotating.

We had nasty weather, and the hard wood and tile floors show every step from outdoors. Obviously, they did not get mopped.

Dusting did not happen either. My furniture is all set for folks to come and write their messages on the table tops.

Yep, all this and more, did not get done. And you know what??? NOBODY died because of the chores not being done!

So today I started a big pot of Minestrone soup, and am making Russian black bread in my bread machine to go with it for tonight's dinner.

I always look at Minestrone soup as indicative of a too busy life. There are so many ingredients that go in it, just like so many things "to DO!", but in the end, it is all worth it.

Minestrone soup has a ton of stuff that goes in it, the more the merrier. And with each bowl, I know that I am doing something very healthy for myself. that is always a good feeling.

I never feel guilty about eating the Russian Rye bread with Jarlsberg cheese on it, either. It "goes with" Minestrone. Kind of like a balancing act.

Housework is like Minestrone. A lot goes in to it, but we need some Russian Rye and Jarlsberg as a special treat, too.

I have a load of laundry in the washer, and one whirling around in the dryer. I took care of my plants, and in a few hours I am sure they will be straight up and smiling.

I cleaned the floors, and they are now nice and shiny again.

I am not going to dust. I am not going to tackle both bedrooms. One is enough.

My house is clean enough to be healthy, and dirty enough to be happy.

And my Minestrone soup is simmering away, the bread machine is whirring along. They are letting me know that all is well, and just as it should be!

I think I will go into my quilt room and play now.

OH! And for those of you who are sweltering in the high temps, I will let you know that here in Washington State, we are having rather cool weather. Today's high is expected to be in the mid 60's, so I am NOT NUTS in making Minestrone soup!!!

Just thought I would let you know.

What a nice analogy. We all need a little treats in our life. Housework, lawnwork, etc. will always be there tomorrow. It's nice to just enjoy life sometimes.

Still high 90's here although going to get back to normal (70's - 80's) this weekend. Broke an 85 year old record yesterday. I don't mind the heat but the humidity is killing me.

Have a great weekend and go work on your quilt.
