Editing my Foods Favorite List

Wednesday, July 27, 2011

Today I decided to take on a task I have been avoiding for over a year. I decided to edit my Food Favorite List.

I was absolutely amazed as to the foods I had on there!

As I went down my list, I deleted a whole lot of stuff I used to eat on a regular basis.

Like: Snickers candy bars
Almond Rocha
English Toffee
Lipton onion soup (I make my own now, with a whole lot less salt!)
Buttered movie popcorn (always bought the BIG bucket and got refills)
Whipped cream
hot dog and hamburger buns (I now eat the skinny whole wheat ones)
Costco apple cinnamon muffins (that was a hard one to give up!)
Costco blueberry muffins (not so hard to give up)
Jimmy Dean sausage emoticon
Jams and Jellies (except for mint apple jelly when I have lamb chops, which is about once every three years.)
Bottled sweetened ice tea
Donuts! emoticon
potato chips (I now buy the air popped potato slices when I DO buy them)
French toast
Regular sour cream
chocolate macadamia nuts emoticon
deep fried fish and seafood.........INCLUDING fish sticks!!! emoticon

I did, however, keep Oreos on the list. I'm not ready to take them off, even though I haven't had any in the house OR in my mouth for four months now.

I didn't want to go overboard with deleting EVERYTHING that put me in need of Spark all at one time. I mean, EASY DOES IT, right??!!

I took off a lot of other stuff that I can't recall just now, but it really gave me insight as to the changes I needed to make, and with Spark's help, have made.

No wonder I was overweight, and no wonder I am getting in better shape now.

Spark!! You definetly have changed my life...........and all for the better!!!

I did that awhile ago. It didn't break my heart too much. But I looked at your list and cried alittle. So many of your favorites were also mine. Especially Costco muffins. Every time I visit, I go for a good sniff but don't buy. It is amazing how we change on this journey. emoticon

It's pretty revealing to go back and look at that favorites list, isn't it? I used to have a lot more prepackaged meals and fast food on mine, but those haven't been needed in a long time. Just the act of tracking the food on SP has made us a lot more aware of what we eat. Way to go!

Minestrone Soup and Unfinished Chores

Friday, July 22, 2011

Do you ever get the feeling that there is too much going on in your world?

I do.

I have been "off" for the past 3 weeks due to illness. Now that I am feeling much better, I am realizing what HASN'T gone on during my "absence".

Laundry did not happen.

We had house guests for a week and both beds have to be stripped. laundered and remade. All the towels need the same, including the kitchen towels.

Plants did not get watered. They need pruning the dead stuff off, a good slow soak and rotating.

We had nasty weather, and the hard wood and tile floors show every step from outdoors. Obviously, they did not get mopped.

Dusting did not happen either. My furniture is all set for folks to come and write their messages on the table tops.

Yep, all this and more, did not get done. And you know what??? NOBODY died because of the chores not being done!

So today I started a big pot of Minestrone soup, and am making Russian black bread in my bread machine to go with it for tonight's dinner.

I always look at Minestrone soup as indicative of a too busy life. There are so many ingredients that go in it, just like so many things "to DO!", but in the end, it is all worth it.

Minestrone soup has a ton of stuff that goes in it, the more the merrier. And with each bowl, I know that I am doing something very healthy for myself. that is always a good feeling.

I never feel guilty about eating the Russian Rye bread with Jarlsberg cheese on it, either. It "goes with" Minestrone. Kind of like a balancing act.

Housework is like Minestrone. A lot goes in to it, but we need some Russian Rye and Jarlsberg as a special treat, too.

I have a load of laundry in the washer, and one whirling around in the dryer. I took care of my plants, and in a few hours I am sure they will be straight up and smiling.

I cleaned the floors, and they are now nice and shiny again.

I am not going to dust. I am not going to tackle both bedrooms. One is enough.

My house is clean enough to be healthy, and dirty enough to be happy.

And my Minestrone soup is simmering away, the bread machine is whirring along. They are letting me know that all is well, and just as it should be!

I think I will go into my quilt room and play now.

OH! And for those of you who are sweltering in the high temps, I will let you know that here in Washington State, we are having rather cool weather. Today's high is expected to be in the mid 60's, so I am NOT NUTS in making Minestrone soup!!!

Just thought I would let you know.

What a nice analogy. We all need a little treats in our life. Housework, lawnwork, etc. will always be there tomorrow. It's nice to just enjoy life sometimes.

Still high 90's here although going to get back to normal (70's - 80's) this weekend. Broke an 85 year old record yesterday. I don't mind the heat but the humidity is killing me.

Have a great weekend and go work on your quilt.

I don't have Bed Hair and I am wearing SHOES!!!

Wednesday, July 20, 2011

I have been quite ill for the past three weeks.

Seems I went and got myself a Virus infection, a Bacterial infection AND pneumonia..all at the same time.

My Doc wanted me in hospital, but then we discussed it, and agreed that hospitals are a wonderful playground for staph infections, which I would be very susceptible to catching.

So, medication, bed rest, fluids, and living in my jammies was decided upon.

I pretty much did exactly that for the past three weeks with the one day exception of taking my granddaughter and her friend up to Sol Duc Falls for a day hike. I paid for that hike the days after, let me tell you!

So here I have been, medicated, resting, sleeping, drinking juices, staying in my jammies and slippers all this time.

Not MY idea of having fun!

I was faithful to these instructions because frankly, even I was worried!......and I didn't have the strength to do anything else anyway.

Today I went to Quilt Club, first time in 3 weeks. I even missed the quilt show (although my quilt didn't, and it came home afterwards with a nice First Place Blue Ribbon on it).

But here's the GREAT NEWS!!!

I do not have Bed Hair today!
I am wearing regular go-out-in-public clothes.
I am wearing SHOES, not slippers.
I am NOT wearing Jammies!!!

AND, to really celebrate, a few of us even went to Arby's for lunch!

WOO HOO!!!!!!!

I am glad your feeling better, but please do drink plenty of Gatorade! Or water with ample potassium and sodium in your diet! Easier to just drink Gatorade! (I hate the taste of Gatorade, so I add a teaspoon of Raspberry tea from Lipton to a glass of the gatorade and it makes the Gatorade less tasteless! ) I would hate for you to get sick again! Keep cool! susana

I think this requires a name change!

Tuesday, July 19, 2011

Okay Guys and Gals,
Here is the latest update on the hidden costs of government. I wonder if THIS will be included in the budget cuts!!

"In my own life, in my own small way, I have tried to give back to this country that has given me so much,” she said. “See, that’s why I left a job at a big law firm for a career in public service— Michelle Obama.

She is served by twenty-six attendants, including a hair dresser and make-up artist.

The annual cost to taxpayers for such unprecedented attention is approximately $1,750,000 without taking into account the expense of the lavish benefit packages afforded to every attendant.

This unprecedented number of attendants is more than any First Lady in U.S. History.

I am wondering if I will get my social security check in August, while Michelle (otherwise known to me as Marie Antoinette) must be wondering if she will have to skimp on her false eyelashes.

26 servants??? What the hell do they DO all day?? Let's see if I can come up with chores for each of them: Now remember! There are 26 people, and each one of them has their own duty to Michelle!

1. Pick up Michelle's dirty clothes and put them in the hamper.

2. Make Michelle's bed.

3. Do Michelle's laundry.

4. Fix Michelle's make-up.

5. Do Michelle's hair.

6. Lay out Michelle's clothes.............oh wait a minute. Somebody actually gets PAID for picking out those hideous outfits that are a total embarrassment for America and the laughing stock of the world??????? But I must admit, at least she is not wearing hats that look like miner's lamps or antlers!

7. Open Michelle's mail.

8. Respond to Michelle's mail.

9. Put appointment book in front of Michelle.

10. Give Michelle a pen or pencil to write in said book.

11. Get travel guide brochures for Michelle, her kids, her mother, her family, her friends and 280 staff members who MUST be in attendance at all times on her trips.

12. Tell Pilot and flight crew to get Air Force One ready to fly the group somewhere around the world for a vacation.

13. Pack bags for Michelle's trip.

14. Weed Michelle's garden.

15. Water Michelle's garden.

16. Hand Michelle a garden hoe for photo op.

17. Clean Michelle's shoes from being "in the garden".

18. Make sure the TV is set for the sports channel for the morning exercise Michelle takes with her husband, thereby having "married time and conversation".

19. Set up photo ops in black only schools.

20. Search for new opportunities for Michelle to prove that American parents do not know how to raise their children, and any child who is over-weight, regardless of medical conditions, must be taken away from said parents and raised in a camp somewhere.

21. Uhhhhhhhh

22. Hmmmmmmmmmm

23. Let's see now.................

24. uhhhhhhhhhhhhh

25. There must be SOMETHING........

26. Damn! Those spendy Republicans must have taken all the other ideas off the table!

I just checked Snopes on this. Here's some info for you:

Laura Bush had 24- 26 attendants
Lady Bird Johnson had 30, her "cause" was cleaning up the roadways
Betty Ford had 30
Jacqueline Kennedy had 40. Her "cause" was renovating the White House.

How's THIS for a "Caring" President?!

Monday, July 18, 2011

As America’s poorest wait for Social Security checks that may never come on Aug. 3, President Barack Obama will be out celebrating a milestone birthday at a party where tickets cost up to $35,800 each.

Obama has chosen the first day of the potential default to throw his 50th birthday bash, combining it with raising money for next year’s election. His actual birthday is Aug. 4.

Republicans are slamming the decision to have the party as “insensitive.”

“This really shows how unserious he is,” Republican Rep. Joe Walsh, a fellow Chicagoan, tells Newsmax exclusively. “I realize it’s his birthday, but he is a president who has said he doesn’t know if social security checks will go out that day.

“If that’s the case, I cannot believe he will be having a big party that very day.”

Obama said on Tuesday that he cannot guarantee that social security checks will go out from August 3 unless a deal can be reached on raising the nation’s $14.3 trillion debt limit. “There may simply not be the money in the coffers to do it,” he told CBS’ Scott Pelley.

Unless the deal is reached, government services across the board will be cut and in many cases closed down.

“My first thought was that he will have to fly to Chicago before the third because I can’t imagine airports will be open,” said Walsh. “And he’ll have to have a huge supply of candles because the lights are going to go out.

“I am amazed he will be able to have a party at all.”

Walsh said he hopes to be in Chicago on Aug. 3 himself to be with his family in case the calamity that Obama has warned about comes to fruition. “I just doubt I’ll get an invitation to the party,” he said.

Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson is expected to perform at the birthday bash at the historic Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. The event will be one of the president’s biggest fundraisers of the year. Publicity literature featuring a red, white and blue Happy Birthday logo has already been produced.

The event will be “multi-tiered,” the Chicago Sun-Times reported. The Hudson concert would cost $50; admission to the party $200; a premium seat $1,000; a souvenir photo with the president $10,000; and VIP seating and dinner with Obama $38,500.

Another GOP Congressman, Louie Gohmert of Texas was incredulous about the timing. “That’d be as crazy as setting up golf games in the middle of going after Osama bin Laden,” he said. “I’m sure he wouldn’t do something like that – or maybe he would.”

Obama has been leading contentious talks all week with leaders of both parties in the House and Senate to avoid the August 2 deadline. On Friday he warned of financial “Armageddon” if a deal cannot be reached.

However, the birthday party will NOT be cancelled.

Amazing that there is no money to pay the social security recipients, but billions of dollars can be given to other countries and thrown away on parties such as this while so many in our country are doing without the necessities in life. Praying that we may again find that God is, has always been and will always be in control of our country and everything.
Let us put God back where He belongs!!!
