This is going to get interesting. When the vote comes in May to increase the debt ceiling and the Democrats try to demonize the Republicans for demanding more cuts instead of raising the debt ceiling I wonder if anyone will remember what Senator Barack Obama had to say about raising the debt ceiling when he voted against it in 2006.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies.

Over the past 5 years, our federal debt has increased by $3.5 trillion to $8.6 trillion. That is “trillion” with a “T.” That is money that we have borrowed from the Social Security trust fund, borrowed from China and Japan, borrowed from American taxpayers. And over the next 5 years, between now and 2011, the President’s budget will increase the debt by almost another $3.5 trillion.

Numbers that large are sometimes hard to understand. Some people may wonder why they matter. Here is why: This year, the Federal Government will spend $220 billion on interest. That is more money to pay interest on our national debt than we’ll spend on Medicaid and the State Children’s Health Insurance Program. That is more money to pay interest on our debt this year than we will spend on education, homeland security, transportation, and veterans benefits combined. It is more money in one year than we are likely to spend to rebuild the devastated gulf coast in a way that honors the best of America.

And the cost of our debt is one of the fastest growing expenses in the Federal budget. This rising debt is a hidden domestic enemy, robbing our cities and States of critical investments in infrastructure like bridges, ports, and levees; robbing our families and our children of critical investments in education and health care reform; robbing our seniors of the retirement and health security they have counted on.

Every dollar we pay in interest is a dollar that is not going to investment in America’s priorities."

Think we ought to send him this, just in case he forgot???? emoticon

yes we all ought to REMIND obame of his promises and better yet, Impeach him, for failure to keep his word! I am still waiting for my $1000 dollsrs he promsied every voter for voting Democatic, I want my tax break! But I would rather he just leave Social Security and Medicare alone!

Has anyone read what he wants to do? So far he has not given us what we been promised. Whats next will he start killing off the elderly so he can balance the budget by taking possession of our wealth left behind? I think that is how he may go.

Sooner or later someone will see the truth of all his lies and say ," ENOUGH is ENOUGH", and Americans will all revolt, like they are around the globe! WE shoudd just stop paying our taxes and see how far Government can go or work without it. What if we all just dont pay our taxes until the following year? WE can then put them out of Business! I am one for revolting! WE would probably do better without any State or Federal Leaders, people take up the slack, help one another, we'd be better off without Political Leaders, because sooner or later we will be forced to help oen another or go down with this Politrcial farce of a Leader! Hes no Leader, hes only beena folower! Hes been following the Communism and ways fo the world! I say spend all your money now before Obama finds a way of taking it from you! Thats what he plans on doing!

I Feel Good While I Do My Taxes

Friday, April 08, 2011

You know, I realized today that I actually feel good while I am doing my taxes.

It makes me feel accomplished and productive.

Oh, don't get me wrong.

I, like all of us, wish we never had to do taxes. But we all are familiar with the quote "If wishes were horses, beggars would ride".

So instead of grousing about having to do them, like it or not, why not enjoy it?

After all, it IS the adult thing to do, isn't it.

I used to have a CPA do our taxes, and he and I really big time did not like each other. I dreaded having to go to him.

He was very good at what he did, but had the personality of a hungry shark.

Now that we are both retired, doing our taxes has become quite simple actually. Especially with the Turbo Tax help.

I just enter the correct numbers in the correct place, get it all filled in, and send it off.

When I click the send button, I feel GOOD. I feel ADULT. I feel FINISHED.

The best part though???

I get to play in my quilt room after with no feelings of "I SHOULD BE DOING......"

I have earned my play time.

Good for you. I really hate doing them but it is something we have to do. I am more in the middle of ours. Ours are fairly easy but our son's are a little more complicated. You are right it is quite easy with Turbo tax and you really do feel good when they are done. Thanks for reminding me to get off my but and just do them.

I dont work, so I dont have to do taxes.... am enjoying retirement even if its forced retirement. May have to skimp and pinch pennies but dont have to worry about doing or paying taxes, but I hate having to pay taxes on everything I buy! Too bad we cant get all that back agter retirement! all those taxes! And we get NOTHING, and in fact Obama wants to cut back our medicare!

You seriously earned that play time, Sandy! We used to have someone else do our taxes, too; then we realized that in order to do that, we had to gather all the pieces of information together for him in the first place, and that was the worst of the work. Plugging in all the numbers, especially with software, is easy; why pay someone to do that?!

Not Quite Finished, But.......

Remember I said I was going to start a new for me quilting process? I want to use the photos I have taken while on my hikes around the Olympic Peninsula.

Here is the photo I took going up to Sol Duc Falls. I used this one as a means of perspective and motivation.

I have pretty much completed the center of the quilt, have stitching, borders etc. yet to go.

I wanted to use my own photos so I know that I am not violating any copy infringement laws.

Hope you like it!

I am going to enter it in this year's local quilt show, and am considering also entering in an International Quilt Show too.

I am pretty proud of this one!! A whole new venture for me.

Good April 4, 2011 day to all. Are you aware that TODAY WILL NEVER COME AGAIN?

Realizing this, it begs the question:

Am I a Super Strutter or a Simply Slumper this month?

I haven't been a very good strutter lately, and need to move it more. I have done more Super Slumper than my share, I admit.

I got into a new quilting project (the Spring place mats) and mainly sat and sewed. I know that is why I remained the same on the scale this week's weight log in.

Today is the day to CHANGE!

TODAY is the day to MOVE IT!!

I shall STRUT today as a result of all my movement.

I have already put in 2 miles with Winsten, and added a bit of spirit to my steps.

I commit to getting out the shovel and cleaning my house, getting the laundry done, and doing strength training. I will be doing all this with the help of a timer.

I can zoom through housework IF I am on a timer.

Today is the day I can be a fat rabbit or heading toward being a slick chick.

I will participate in the time I have given to celebrate this day, for it will not come again. That makes it precious.

On my way to Super Strutting!!

That's the Spark spirit, my friend! Yay for you in getting out for a couple of miles with Winsten already. I have to ask , though, is the shovel for the house or for outside?

I think it's what I need for a couple of rooms in my house . . . keep strutting!
