Okay Already! Enough is ENOUGH!!!

Sunday, December 26, 2010

Today I got on the scale and did my measurements.

I have been avoiding the scale and tape measure with herculean strength and determination.

I was blissfully floating down the river of DENIAL, telling myself I didn't need to get on the scale, didn't have to use the measuring tape, and certainly did not have to do dedicated workouts.

I was wrong.

My weight has ballooned up to 3.5 pounds down from when I first started Spark. My measurements are all up, too.

That's what I get for not working the program as it is layed out for me.

So today I did something different. I reached the point where ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

I slid in the Cardio Blast workout, and did 23 minutes. I followed this up with walking .5 miles as a cool down. I stretched my body, and whoa Nelly! My body is REALLY needing these stretches!

Amazingly, I can already feel the difference in my body and the way it moves. Even my attitude is Sparked up.

I love feeling like this, and wonder why I ever slack off. I think it is my old nemesis, Laziness.

That's right. Just plain old LAZINESS.

So, today, I decided to turn around and face that devil that chases me. I spit Laziness right in the eye, and got my body moving.

Sure, I feel mad at myself for allowing all this to happen.....AGAIN. But I also feel PROUD of myself for challenging that old battering ram and do the workout.

I have a steeper hill to climb as a result of my Laziness, but because of past experience, I know I can climb it and get strong and fit.

I have all the information I need from Spark.........they've kindly done the work there I need.

I have wonderful Spark buddies that encourage me, and praise my efforts and successes.

Come join me. We have nothing to stop us but our Laziness!!! Let's kick butt on Laziness, and get ourselves back on track, shall we?

yes its not just laziness, but if you have a digital weight scale (which I do have and had one for several years) can cause your weight to seem to fluctuate and each time you step on that kind of scale. so it could be just wearing clothes and that you just ate or drank a whole 2 glasses of water; that your weight went up. Dont fret! I lose on the average 3 pounds a night, so I dont panic when I see such a rise in my weight, its a daily fluctuate that is NORMAL! I know by morning it will be back down. Dam scales sure can freak you out. I never get use to it, (I alway have to remind myself of that samething!) But weighting yourself every day and alway with No clothese on and alway after a bowel or bladder movement, can make the difference. Always weight yourself the same time every morning! Because you will lose weight after a fast even though its after you wake up, ist still a fast! Glad to help, but I been weighting myself a very long time this way, and you get to know how your body reacts. Weighting myself often is my way and motivation for losing weight! But I do know when you work out many times; its water you lose, not weight! Weight is lots slower ...and over time and when you exercise DAILY! That much I leanred over the years... its a steady work out that causes weight to go away! Keep jogging or walking or whatever floats your weight off. But don't fret if you put on even 5 pounds since Thanksgivig. Its maintaining the same habits that gets you where you want to be... HEALTHY, not just losing weight, but healthy eating; is how we lose weight! But being healthy is what really counts! Hugs, susan emoticon emoticon

You can have 2 pounds a day just be WATER, and from 2 to 5 pounds just your clothing. I always weight myself naked as a jay bird first thing in the morning and then in the afternoon and again in the evening; and I find within one days time you can put on from 3 to 5 pounds a day. so dont fret. Weight yourself after you have gone to the bathroom and you can lose up to 2 pounds, so alway weight yourself the same time and again and you will see how weight fluctutates during the day.(I weight myself afer each bowel movement) . Best time to weight yourself is the morning for true weight; and before you eat but after you have used the bathroom to get a true weight. And measuring your body you will notice falb turn to muscle and even while doing that it can change from day to day as you drink water, the body pulls the water into your muscles. If you have sore muscles after exercise its telling you that your not drinking enough watgter to flush it out (and the toxins) (ITs toxins and the lactic acid builds up, you lose, not just weight. Your weigh will reflect if your holding water and weight; so then drink more water, it will flush out the lactic acid and toxins, but it will also add a pound to your weight so each time you drink 8 ounces of it, its going to put on a half a pound also! There is a 3 to 5 extra poundage a day , during the day and a loss after exercise; and the lactic acid can cause cramping and also hold more water; also an increase in weight holding that acid. so drink more water when cramping and dont worry about an increase of 3 to 5 pounds during the day. Always weight yourself in the morning, thats closer to your real weight than during the day! Watch and alway weight yourself several times during the day and you will see a weight change! your weight will show youa better measure and help you space your food intake better than measuing the muscles. And weight will never be truly stabilized , its always fluctuating during the day. Ever changing! From day to day from meal to meal. Its checking it in the morning minus breakfast and after a potty break. Best shows a more accurtae weight in the morning and if you loss because you can lose 2 to 5 pounds during your sleep cycle. Believe it or not and staying in bed an extra hour will cause yoru body to break down mroe fat than if you get up early! It force your body to break down fat that si stored into energy in the morning, not while you exercise! Your adrenaline gland works in the mroning to breka down fat to energy while you are in "starvation mode " and is wht stabilizes your weight! Not the thyroid! They work together but ist the adrenalien that works while as many have thought! While your still resting or sleeping in the morning only, after a fast! And to know if you are , you will get like a heat wave when your blood sugar drops. once it drops is a sign your body is burning fat! Its after that your true weight is known. Not before. Because if your body is burning its not during the day, its during the mid-morning or during the night, not while your exercising as much as when you are relaxed. Thats how you can tell if yoru lsoing weight; after a time of fasting. Oh yes, exercise helps, but as long as you have fat and fuel its not really burning it totally while your execising but mostly durng rest; its when the body really loses weight! Hard to explain but you can still lose weight by just eating less, you dont need to exercise. Just eat less and more complex foods. The body works harder when it has compelx foods. Weight is not always the problem. Chooing to space your meals out to 4 and a 1/2 hours (causes a fast moment) and after the fast is when you soe weight! Having a time of deprivation/ fasting (at night ) is when you lose actually lose weight. Usually the most you lose is during rest times. Not during exercise. Thats why its good to check your weight in the morning and after waking up and before a meal! But after a potty break. Because you can lsoe up to 1/2 a pound after a potty (pee) break!). Check your weight on your calendar each day and you will see your body goes in cycles of gain and loss during the day! Your body even has pattern when you actually go to the bathroom too! I wil bet you did not know that! JUst keeping a tab on food and times of change can help you see if your losing or gaining. Its that feedback that helps! Good luck and dont worry so much just weight yourself every morning and know in the morning its the true weight!

3.5 lbs.! That is what I added after a fairly healthy Thanksgiving added to with unhealthy pecan pie and whipped cream, among other things. I have already dropped that silly weight and am down a bit more. Congratulations for getting back at that old pattern and grabbing for the Spark pattern! emoticon

3.5 pounds does not qualify as "ballooning" but I understand what you are feeling, because I'm there, too.

It's hard to do, but you are on your way!

    3.5 pounds? That's what you're upset about? A whopping 3.5 pounds?
Girl, your weight can fluctuate throughout the day anywhere from 2-6 pounds easy. And you're trippin' over that?
Stressing yourself out over the little things is counter productive. I can't preach enough of how stress is a silent killer. It affects everything.
Celebrate that you worked out. Celebrate your ability to move and stretch and do things that a lot of others can't. Don't beat yourself up over the numbers and the little things. Focus on those positive vibes and you will do fine!!!!
Keep pushing towards your goals!

Merry Christmas, Even in Hosptals!!

Wednesday, December 22, 2010

I have read a number of posts from folks who are disappointed that they cannot be home for Christmas. They vented their sorrow and frustrations, and that is a good thing.

Your posts are all too familiar with me. I'm glad you were able to express your frustrations. Serious injuries and/or illnesses take a toll upon one's patience and tolerance!!

I have spent Christmas in hospitals a number of times. Once for my own injuries, and three years in a row when Ally was so ill with her cancer.

We all definitely learned that Christmas is truly only 24 hours long, AND the Birth of Christ can be celebrated anywhere.

The nursing staff did everything they possibly could to make it less dreary, and we realized that they, too, were missing their own homes and families in order to take care of those of us who were under their charge.

Looking at their sacrifice, we all felt a bit small when we realized that they were there for US, giving us whatever care and comfort we needed, instead of being with their families.

A new perspective in GRATITUDE!!

That being said, it is still much nicer to be OUT of a hospital during the holidays. But if you are there, try to notice the wonderful gifts you are being given by the staff. As you are learning, there is no gift as precious as that of TIME, and DEDICATED CARE.

Amazingly, many children still go to the "fifth floor" (our name for the hospital) on Christmas day to spread whatever cheer and hope they can to those battling cancer. They say they never want "to forget what they gave me, and how important it is to give time and hope".

And now, my dears, it is time to learn another lesson. And this one is very important! You must learn to write ALL of your schedules and plans in water! You are being taught to be fluid in your plans, and not to sink all your hopes and dreams on a particular day of the calendar.

You can have your dreams and hopes with you at all times, no matter where you are. Your dreams and hopes live WITHIN you, not without! The only thing that changes is the SURROUNDINGS!

Once you master the art of writing your dreams in water, you will find that life flows more easily, and you won't be jerked around when things change. As time goes by, it actually becomes a preferred way to live. You will truly be "Going with the Flow", which is God's desire for us.

And so, Dear Ones, I take this moment in time to with you a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HEALING, HEATHY NEW YEAR!

Of course, I add my prayers for you daily emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

The "W" in Christmas

Monday, December 13, 2010

Each December, I vowed to make Christmas a calm and peaceful experience.

I had cut back on nonessential obligations - extensive card writing, endless baking, decorating, and even overspending.

Yet still, I found myself exhausted, unable to appreciate the
precious family moments, and of course, the true meaning of

My son, Nicholas, was in kindergarten that year. It was an exciting season for a six year old.

For weeks, he'd been memorizing songs for his school's "Winter Pageant."

I didn't have the heart to tell him I'd be working the night of the
production. Unwilling to miss his shining moment, I spoke with his teacher. She assured me there'd be a dress rehearsal the morning of the
presentation. All parents unable to attend that evening were welcome to come then.

Fortunately, Nicholas seemed happy with the compromise.
So, the morning of the dress rehearsal, I filed in ten minutes
early, found a spot on the cafeteria floor and sat down. Around the room, I saw several other parents quietly scampering to their seats.

As I waited, the students were led into the room. Each class, accompanied by their teacher, sat cross-legged on the floor. Then, each group, one by one, rose to perform their song.

Because the public school system had long stopped referring to the holiday as "Christmas," I didn't expect anything other than fun, commercial entertainment songs of reindeer, Santa Claus, snowflakes and good cheer.

So, when my son's class rose to sing, "Christmas Love," I was slightly taken aback by its bold title.

Nicholas was aglow, as were all of his classmates, adorned in fuzzy mittens, red sweaters, and bright snowcaps upon their heads.

Those in the front row- center stage - held up large letters, one by one, to spell out the title of the song.

As the class would sing "C is for Christmas," a child would hold up the letter C. Then, "H is for Happy," and on and on, until each child holding up his portion had presented the complete message, "Christmas Love."

The performance was going smoothly, until suddenly, we noticed her; a small, quiet, girl in the front row holding the letter "M" upside down - totally unaware her letter "M" appeared as a "W".

The audience of 1st through 6th graders snickered at this little one's mistake. But she had no idea they were laughing at her, so she stood tall, proudly holding her "W".

Although many teachers tried to shush the children, the laughter continued until the last letter was raised, and we all saw it together.

A hush came over the audience and eyes began to widen.

In that instant, we understood the reason we were there, why we celebrated the holiday in the first place, why even in the chaos, there was a purpose for our festivities.

For when the last letter was held high, the message read loud and clear:

"C H R I S T W A S L O V E"

And, I believe, He still is.

Amazed in His presence... .humbled by His love.
