All you can eat buffet success!

"Belief creates the actual fact."
William James

So I went to Peachykeens, an all you can eat buffet resturant in Nottingham (Uk, also in Birmingham) and I stuck to my guns and ate what I said I would!

For starter I had salad and soup (Tom Yum), for main I had grilled Masala fish, a piece of peri peri chicken and half a plate of salad. Then for dessert I had a tablespoon piece of cheesecake and two tablespoons of ice cream. I drank water with my dinner.

We also went to a real ale pub after and I have two half pint drinks (I would have originally had 2 pints) so I woke up feeling refreshed...and 1/2lb lighter too haha!

Tonight I made myself celery boats with vegetable pate and a few drops of different sauces on top...had 3 massive stalks and 50g of pate - less than 200kcals :)

That's awesome! Being able to resist not eating every single thing at a buffet is tough! I know there have been many times that I've left one feeling very uncomfortably full. Good job! :)

The 'guilt trip' after the holidays - how to avoid it.

Saturday, January 12, 2013

A lot of people on this site (I have noticed) are currently in a guilt trip after the holidays. I have a different way of looking at it. First and foremost - DON'T PANIC!

Holidays and particularly Christmas for me as someone who is not religious, I like to adopt the Christian values and concentrate on spending time with family and friends. For me it is about be caring and sharing, we don't buy lots of expensive gifts (they are saved for Birthdays), we have a budget and we go to charity shops and buy presents from there, doing our bit for that charity. We go round to family and friend's houses and bare gifts we have made - not just 3 for 2 presents from Boots (shop in UK), but ones I have put effort into making and wrapping. So where does food come into all of this?

Well, I suppose food plays a massive part in the holidays - its the one thing EVERYONE on this earth can talk about. It brings people together around a table - which for some families is a rare opportunity. Talk about what gifts they have received, and good times they have spent together. Now I'm certainly not saying, 'throw the diet mentality away'. This is not what I am saying. What I do suggest you do though is enjoy the holidays and get back on track after. Keep thinking in the back of your mind 'I will only have a small piece of this' or 'one glass of sherry is sufficient'.

But don't worry if you get back on the scales and you are disappointed. Think about all those happy times you have had over the holidays, why ruin them with negative thoughts and guilt? There is nothing better to help you keep working towards your goal than positive thinking!

Official Day One

"Believe you can and you're halfway there."
Theodore Roosevelt

Today was my official first day diet/exercise/health kick, and my first day back at work.

Didn't go too bad - it was INSET so the kids arn't in but that means we get a free lunch. I made myself a sandwich but I also made myself a tuna salad (lettuce, tomato, cucumber, onion, tuna) in the canteen. It helped because I was doing the first aid course and I was rolling around everywhere!

Someone actually said I looked really good today - which really suprised me, so that forced me onwards with my health drive. I'm not going to keep it a secret either!

Going to get myself some work dresses tonight as well from ASDA (seeing how it's open 24/7), gonna buy some long sleeved tops to go under dresses so I don't have to hide under cardigans.

Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant."
Robert Louis Stevenson

So this is kind of day one. No specific diet but I have prepared myself for my diet by;

- hiding the christmas chocolate
- making myself a food diary
- weighing, measuring and goal setting
- planning meals for the week ahead
- money planning (bit of an obscure one, but if I'm not spending money on food I'm saving it for my holiday!)

I don't want to say this is it - this is the last time I 'start' a diet because that would be silly. I always have my ups and downs - but this time I am going to stick to it. I'm 24, I'm not getting any younger - I'm not afraid of old age, I'm afraid of getting old and not caring about my health. I want to look good for my age. I don't want to hide behind jumpers and long sleeved tops. I want to shake my arms about and when I stop I want them to stop with me!

I'm past caring about silly things like 'you only live once, eat what you want'. Damn straight you only live once - why live it being unhappy! Food makes me unhappy - why am I constantly trying to use it to make myself happy? It doesn't!

Three statements I will say by September 2013:
'Wow I look good in that swimsuit'
'I can't wait to do some exercise'
'No thanks, I've already had [some form of treat] today'
