sugar b gone follow up

Thursday, July 25, 2013

DH and I have done quite well getting the sugar out. He has done better than I and has lost 30 pounds. I've gotten down 17 since the new year but am needing to lose an other 10. I've joined the sugar challenge here and am starting at a good point. This is the time of year that I eat more fruit and pies! Yipes.

So I need to write down why I am doing this.
LOSE 10
Avoid diabetes
Get off statins

I also need to be sure I get a handle on the sugar before Fall approaches and follow through during the end of the year whick is my downfall.

Replacement food for sugar this week will be blueberries instead mof chocolate because I have 7 lbs of them in my refrigerator. I'm going to put an "eat me" sign on them..

Sugar be Gone

Monday, January 28, 2013

'Fat Chance' by Robert Lustig gives a very good description of how food is metabolized in the body. He is probably describing why with all the exercise I haven't been able to lose weight very easily. I've always said it is not 'calorie in calorie out' and he puts it down on paper why not. This is not necessarily an easy read but he gets right down to the studies and relates them to how the body works. I will continue to be a freak on exercise (at least for my age) but will be trying to get the sugar out, even more fiber in and not worry about the healthy fats as much. I'm only half way through the book.

100 miles

Monday, August 16, 2010

I finished the 102 miles on the bike with ease in 6hrs 11 min at 16.5 mph! There were about 4 cookies, 1 1/2 bananas, 3 pieces of watermelon, protein bar, GOO and some electrolyte drinks involved in keeping up the energy. We had the best sag man following us around with water and ice and stopping with us to dole it out. It was 96 degrees and I found my long sleeves held ice cubes, cubes wrapped in my kerchief around my neck and a cup of them in my sport bra all helped to keep the core cool. No sore spots today!

Baking Day

Thursday, May 27, 2010

It's baking day and I thought I'd make the most of heating the oven since it is near 90 degrees out. So most of this goes into the freezer and it will take me a long time to eat it. These are from Peter Rhinehart's books. Two of them are transitional breads (50white/50wheat) and are just 'try-its' for me because I am going to move on to the whole grain breads. The long ones are sourdough for company and my 'white bread' friends. I've had three skinny pieces and that will be it for today. In the freezer are broombread, siegel rye, and Seeded German Rye....the whole grain thing.

Guess I'll be getting lots of biking in this weekend and burning carbs.
