Happy 1 Year Spark Anniversary to Me!!

Tuesday, July 30, 2013

I can’t believe it’s been a year since I’ve joined Sparkpeople. This community has the perfect formula for my success. Everything I need is here. Workout videos, Food tracker, Support, Recipes, Sparkfriends, Motivation …. So much information and it all free! No one is trying to sell me anything! No magic pill. No fad diet!

I started a year ago by following these basic rules:

-Tracking my food
At first it wasn’t easy… Tracking your food can be a pain until you get used to doing it. I nearly drove my hubby crazy cause he did all the cooking, and I was always asking how much of this and how of that did you use. Now he measures and weights everything and never throws out food wrappers until I’ve recorded the calorie info. Now tracking my food is second nature.

-Drinking 8 glasses of water a day
Drinking 8 glasses of water wasn’t so bad, and now I normally drink more. I’ve never been a pop drinker and can’t handle a lot of coffee. I loved drinking juice so it was easy to make the switch to water.

-Working out on a regular bases
I have no issues with cardio. I started running and it was the hardest thing I’ve ever tried. At first I could only run for 2 minutes and can now run 5k without any issues. I run at least 3 days a week at 5 am in the morning (something I never thought I would do). I also walk and try to do strength training on a regular bases. I know there is room for improvement with my workout routine but I also know eventually I will find the right balance. Also my Fitbit has been the best gift I’ve ever received. It keeps me motivated… I try every day to get 10,000+ steps and I love the friendly competition with my Fitbit friends.

Day after day I followed the rules and slowly the weight started to come off. Day after day I started to feel better about myself. Day after day it became habit for me.

My life has changed so much over this last year and I love it!!
I’ve lost 43 lbs!! emoticon
Went from a size 12-14 to a size 6-8!! emoticon
I can Run!! emoticon
I learned how to control my food, and not to look at it as a reward!! emoticon
I feel Strong and Healthy!! emoticon
I’m in the best shape of my life!! emoticon
I’ve learned being positive and being happy are all in my control. emoticon
My hubby is eating healthier and he is starting to workout with me. emoticon

I have a 5K Mud run at the beginning of September. I am worried that I'm not strong enough to complete some of the obstacles but I guess I wont know till I try.

My goal for this next year is to work on my strength and endurance. I want to be able to run 10k by next summer.

Some days are just harder than others

Saturday, June 01, 2013

Some days are just harder than others. Today is starting off as a hard one. Went for a run this morning and had to push myself the whole way. I had to stop and walk for a bit, but I did manage to do 5k. I hate days like these...I'm hungry and crabby too! emoticon

I am waiting for the day I actually enjoy my run, and the voice in my head stops telling me I can't do it. I want to run! It's the hardest thing I have ever done...

There is A 5K race two weeks from today that I would like to do but after a day like this.... I don't want to run a race that I am going to have to stop and walk. I am too competitive with myself.

I don't want to give up cause I know I can do it!! (just wish the voice would shut up!!)

Sorry ...Had to vent!

I think I am having one of those weeks. Odd question for you.... do you ever run on a treadmill. I have a small mirror there that I see myself in (when I look at it) and it makes it quite easy to actually see that I am strong and I can do it (whatever it happens to be that day). Maybe to see that your arms are swinging at a nice and easy consistent pace is the reminder that you need that you can and are doing it.

Hate those stupid negative voices. HUGS

Take your time you will get to doing it when you can. Don't let that voice in your head get you down, tell it to sit on the side lines and go for your run. And don't be ashamed if you have to walk a bit, do only what your body can handle on any given day.

    You will get there.

The difference between a 5k done on your own and one done with other people is that the excitement and adrenaline of being part of the group kick in. If you take in the surroundings and experiences of the event there is no room for the negative voice. I would recommend giving it a try. You might surprise yourself!

Walk or run just be proud of yourself doing a 5K. What an accomplishment! Good for you for not going home and sticking your head under a blanket. You have the stuff to be a winner for sure! emoticon emoticon

Keep up the good work. If you have to walk part of your first 5k,so what? Finish emoticon and get a time to better on the next one. Life is a process and as long as we are attempting to move forward we are not moving backward.

Running at 5am...??

Tuesday, May 07, 2013

If you would have asked me a year ago if I would get up at 5 am to run I would of said “No Way!!”. I love my sleep, and I normally hate getting up. emoticon I’ve always said I could never workout first thing in the morning. Hahaha funny how much things can change in a year. Did my first 5 am run this morning and I actually enjoyed it!!

I will be up again at 5am on Thursday…. I hope I feel the same way then emoticon

Kudos to you! Yeah, I'm still in the phase of "No way I'm getting up at 5:30 am to exercise! I love my sleep!" During the weekdays, my alarm is set for 5:30 am to allow time for an early morning workout before leaving for my job yet I still always hit snooze until 6. I know that if I push myself to get up when the alarm first sounds, then I will feel great after getting a good workout. The trick is getting up! I hope to just bite the bullet one day and start the ball rolling. Good for you! Keep it up!

I did it!

Thursday, April 18, 2013

So I actually did it last night. I ran 5K outside without stopping. emoticon I didn’t have the greatest time but I did do it in less than 40 minutes. This is just another example that my hard work really pays off.

Distance
5.23km emoticon

Duration
38:34 emoticon

Avg Pace
7:22 emoticon

I started to work on my running last fall. I have been running on the treadmill a couple times a week and had built myself up to running 5K over the winter. But running on a treadmill and running outside are very different. I’ve always wanted to run and at 44 years old I am actually doing it. emoticon

I have signed myself up for a 5K run on April 27th and I am also doing a Mud Run September 1st. I may even sign myself up for more.

Mud, Sweat and Tears?!

Saturday, March 30, 2013

I had a girlfriend ask me to join her and compete in a Mud, Sweat and Tears 5k race. The race is September 1st ! I have plenty of time to get ready for it, and I pretty much said yes that I am doing it. emoticon emoticon

The thought of doing it scares the heck out of me but I need to do it! I need this to keep me on track and to push myself a little harder. I am stepping out of my box!! I have 155 days to get ready for this.... I can run 5k on the treadmill but this is way more than a simple race, it's like Wipeout! So starting today I am in training ...... I will keep you posted on my progress.

Here's a picture from a Mud, Sweat and Tears race! :)

I did the Warrior Dash a couple years ago and April 20th I'm doing the Rugged Maniac with a couple friends. They are lots of fun; (or I'm crazy). We usually walk, I only do it as an excuse to walk 3 miles and play in the mud along the way! Nothing like a mid-life crisis, right? (Not that you'd know about that yet...give it time); I'm referring to mine!

You'll have a blast! emoticon
