Starting To Test BS Levels at Home

Tuesday, February 15, 2011

Somethings off with me, I'm hungry all the time, so just though better start checking, better safe then sorry.

I snagged these numbers off the net, I hope they're correct.

Fasting blood glucose — a quick look at the numbers

Keep in mind that looking at trends in your blood glucose levels is much more helpful than simply viewing one number in isolation.

Normal fasting glucose:
70–99 mg/dL

Impaired fasting glucose (pre-diabetes):
100–125 mg/dL

Diabetes:
126 mg/dL and above on more than one occasion

Hi - I found your blog via a search for Atkins on SparkPeople. I was just recently diagnosed diabetic, so I hope you dont mind me giving some factoids! :)

If you are really concerned about your blood sugars, you can have your doctor test your A1C - which is a measure of glycated hemoglobin, giving you a view of your 'average' blood sugar for the last 2 to 3 months. It'll probably be the most comprehensive way of making sure your blood sugar control is normal vs. impaired.

Another thing you can do is test before/after meals. The targets for blood sugar 2 hours after a meal should be ~140mg/dl for a 'normal' person, but lower is even preferable to that (I've been trying to keep mine under 120mg/dl.

I bet the kids in Sunday School asked what movie would be playing that night, and were told: "Not sure yet, we'll put it up on the marquee out front, as soon as we know".

And then due to the response from another church, they figured they'd mess with them... I really have no clue, but it sure seems like they were purposely dicking with them for the heck of it...LOL

Diet Mood Connection

Thursday, February 03, 2011

Protein Effects: Dopamine, Norepinephrine - Increased alertness, concentration

Carbs Effects: Serotonin - Increased calmness, relaxation

Calories: All Foods - Reduced blood flow to the brain Excess calories in a meal is associated with decreased alertness and concentration after the meal.

"Research on the connection between a person's mood and the food he or she eats has reveled what many people have long believed, that eating a certain food can influence a person's mood—at least temporarily. Research by Judith Wurtman, a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), has focused on how certain foods alter one's mood by influencing the level of certain brain chemicals called neurotransmitters . While many other factors influence the level of these chemicals, such as hormones , heredity, drugs , and alcohol, three neurotransmitters—dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin —have been studied in relation to food, and this research has shown that neurotransmitters are produced in the brain from components of certain foods."

My dad and his dad had REALLY prominent deep blue eyes, and each of them had a bright white ring around the outside of their irises. Funny thing is: Dad has one of those constitutions where he can eat anything and not have a cholesterol problem, and Grandad passes away at a very old age in his sleep. He had a heart as strong as an ox, said the doctor.

Go figure!

    Back Cover

Artemisia, a scientist who also practices alchemy, is wealthy beyond imagination. As a scientist Artemisia is one of the founding members of the Skyward Group, a privately funded, secret science facility whose experiments ease the boundaries of where man ends and God begins. Artemisia has everything money, fame, knowledge and power. She has everything except for a child.

Inanna, a powerful and dangerous witch is wealthy beyond imagination. As a witch, never has there been one as powerful or deadly as Inanna. Inanna has everything money, knowledge and God like power. She has everything except for a child.

At three months old The Child only saw the world through the bars of his locked cage has nothing. He doesn’t have a mommy, he doesn’t have a daddy and he doesn’t have a name. The scientist working for The Alpha Omega Foundation do not talk to The Child, they only study him because The Child is dangerous. The Child can make things happen just by thinking about it – even if that something was to make you dead.

Within the shadows of darkness two women clash in a vicious battle that has been fought since the days of King Solomon – the fight over a child. One woman unleashes the nightmarish arsenal of modern science while the other dispatches the weaponries of witchcraft. But as The Child grows up, his love for one and resentment for the other will change the fate of both women forever.
