Never thought of water like this

Drinking water at the correct time maximizes its effectiveness on the human body:

2 glasses of water after waking up - helps activate internal organs

1 glass of water 30 minutes before a meal - helps digestion

1 glass of water before taking a bath - helps lower blood pressure

1 glass of water before going to bed - avoids stroke or heart attack

Finished Another Walk/Run Event

This morning we had a Year of Healthy Living 5K run/1 Mile Family Fitness Walk sponsored by our local hospital. I got DH and my daughter up to make it a family thing.

After much contemplation, I decided to register for the 1 mile walk. I am only beginning my second week of couch to 5K training and didn't want to push it. So glad I did because not only were the runners all running (not walking fast but really running) but there were all kinds of hills on the run. It was good because now I learned I have to get myself off the track sometimes and onto the street for a challenge! Funny, I sought out a track because almost every street around here is a hill!

All in all, it was a great morning. It would have been a perfect event except for the steady rains. The healthy lifestyle vendors had to move their booths indoors and what was left outdoors just got soaking wet.

Well, time to look for my next event on a weekend I don't have to work. There is an abundance of them here and I'm lovin it!

C25K Week 1 day 3

Today is week 1 day 3 of my couch to 5K training. I set my training for every other day. I started Saturday, continued on my day off on Monday. Now I'm realizing my stumbling blocks.

1. I start work at 6:30 a.m. I would need at least 30 minutes and at 6:00 it is still too dark for me to go to the track by myself.
2. I work ten hours, getting off at 5:00.
3. When I got off it was raining. It is after 6 and still raining quite steady. I know some people run in the rain but I'm not ready for that. Plus when I went outside earlier there was thunder and lightening.

Those are the problems right now.

The only solution I can think of is to put on my podcast and get on my elliptical. Still outside but in a covered screened-in area.

Dah, wish I'd thought of that earlier. I need to stop stressing over crazy stuff like this. I guess when I start writing I start thinking. Still raining but no lightening.

    It is too snowy for my to safely run outside so I have been jogging in place in front of my computer with the podcast playing.
It isn't the best solution but it keeps me on track in the program. I am on week 7 and will be going to the track for the first time tomorrow.

Couch to 5K training (C25K)

I am officially in my C25K training. Saturday morning I started out with a walk with DH. Since I had downloaded a C25K program onto an MP3 player Friday, I decided to see what it was all about. We got to the track and I just started walking to the program. I left DH in the wind. It is a small, mulch covered track. I don't particularly like it because I really have to watch my step since it is uneven in many places. By the third trip around DH had sat on a bench.

I kept walking, ran when the program said run, walked when it said walk. It took six trips around to track to complete the first program.

Monday morning: I got up early to complete the walk. By the time I had completed the program, parents were dropping kids off to school in front of the track. Rather than get caught up in the traffic and confusion, I decided to walk and wait until school started. Another four trips around the track.

In all, I completed 5.12 miles, walking/running. Wednesday I will do the final day of my first week of training.

Now I'm off to the Monday morning flea market. More walking but this time much slower.

    Thanks, guys, for your wonderful comments. I found this free podcast by searching for running podcasts. The one I'm using is called Suz's cough to 5K running podcasts. Lots of hip hop, some Michael Jackson, etc.

Hello SparkPeople. Thanks for taking the time to read my blog. Just wanted to post an update since I haven't blogged in a few days.

My weekend was like any other work weekend. 10 hours of work each day and no other life. Except this weekend was Valentine's Day and also an awards banquet for our community.

Fastforwarding to the banquet:

My family (actually my late grandfather and his descendents) was given a heritage award for over 100 years of living and serving in our city. My mother accepted the award.
