Just registered for Disney Full Marathon - so excited!

Friday, May 25, 2012

This event is so far away, January 13, but I just registered for it about an hour ago! I'm so excited - I can finally exhale. I've been running this through my mind for a couple months. The last couple days have been tense with uncertainty. This afternoon I was like Nike - Just do it! I registered and now I'm so glad I did. I'm no longer half crazy, I'm going all the way!

Go for it!!! I live about an hour away (not running yet, IT band and foot issues) and I looked up the marathon. I'd want to stay at the resort as there is a bus at 4 am, and the race is early - but pretty cool to run through the parks! I chaperoned a field trip last January and we saw some runners enjoying the park. Have fun training for it!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

In It to WIN It 5K to support marriage and families

Sunday, May 20, 2012

Saturday, May 19, 2012

This turned out to be a real fun event. My husband joined me for our first 5K together.

A couple ladies from my BGR running group also joined me. They won 1st and 2nd place for the ladies. The lady who came in 2nd place also won a medal for running the 1/2 mile kids run (she came in last while also helping one of the kids in the back of the pack).

Race Report for Winter Park Road Road 10K

Friday, April 27, 2012

I finished this race on March 24, 2012. Since it was only six days after my last half marathon, I got with a couple running friends and we decided to start walking the race. I walked and talked for about 10 minutes. Then, it hit me - I was in a race! I didn't say a thing, just started running!

The course had lots of turns but was a disappointment with water stops - about every two miles and it was hot. I was used to every mile in my previous races. Other than that, it was a great race and I would probably do it again.

We got a finishers medal for the 10K.

They also gave a 35-year commemorative glass.

Here is one of my post race pictures:

Major disappointment was no food. I did manage to get water - that's all. After I made that hour long trip home, took shower and went out to a much deserved breakfast.

I'll just add another race I did on April 15th. Windermere Run Among The Lakes 5K. Not much to say about this race. My 2nd official (chip timed) 5K. Almost 3/4 sand. I didn't like running in the sand and will not do this event. The food was great though - bananas, bagels, Chick-fil-A breakfast sandwiches, popcorn, coffee, Gatorade. Many vendors giveaways - cups, bags, etc.

One last thing. This blog entry will push me to 60,000 Sparkpoints and another trophy - level 18! Now that's a lot of sparking!

Half Marathon #4 race report and my HF #

Friday, March 23, 2012

On May 28, 2011, I celebrated my first official 5K run. It was so hot by then here in Central Florida that I stopped doing any races. When I started back training in August, I made a goal to finish the Disney Princess Half Marathon in my 55th year. I did not make that goal. I did, however, complete the Women's Half Marathon in November, the St Pete Rock n Roll Half in February, the Orange Blossom Half in March and the Florida Beach Halfathon in March. (The last three half marathons combined were the same price as I would have paid for the Disney Princess Half).

My goal will still be to complete the Disney Princess Half Marathon and I will register early. I have been told by two close friends that they want to do this next February so I agree to do it with them. It good to have friends with me for this one since I hear you have to be there around 4:30 a.m.

The pictures below are from my Florida Beaches Half Marathon completed 3/18/2012.

Finally, my last half marathon qualified me for Half Fanatics. I'm #2086!

Congrats on you finish "fanatic"!!!!! That is awesome. I was thinking of looking into becoming a fanatic myself.

Wow, that is a gorgeous medal. It makes me want to sign up for the race just for the medal.

I waited to the last minute to run one race and it was sold out for the half. About two or three days after the race, I received an email to sign up for next year's race....I registered for $50!!!!!! Race day they were asking for $125. Ka ching.... big savings for me. Start checking now because registration may already be open.

"You're kinda little"

Tuesday, March 13, 2012

Last night I got a text from my dance workout instructor that we were having a media day with the newspaper coming out to take pictures. Since today is my day off I decided to go and be a part of the media shoot. I rarely get to be a part of the 9 am workouts since I work. There is another 7 pm workout that I attend more often. Here is a shot taken a couple months ago of the a.m. group. I am on the far right, in the back. (He did give me a T-shirt right after I took the pic and before the MLK Day performance we were about to do.)

Today we didn't have quite as many attendees (only about 12) since it is not a holiday. As we were lining up for today's picture, our instructor said "all the smaller people get in front". We all just shuffled around a little more, looking at each other. Then he looks at me and says "You're kinda little, come up front." This is how I felt
emoticon emoticon emoticon
So, there are three of us "little and kinda little" people up front and I'm one of them! I know I have a few pounds to go before I reach that healthy BMI but I just had to note those few words as part of my journey to get there.

That had to feel like a celebration in itself when he said that. How great is that!
Those unexpected recognitions of our efforts can do wonders for sparking us on to the finish line. Keep up the great job you are doing and thanks for being such an inspiration to me.
