100 squats in 100 days challenge

Tuesday, August 23, 2011

I joined this 100 squats a day challenge on Facebook and am on day two. I told my dance aerobics instructor about it this morning and he said in the hour we exercised we probably did twice that amount. I went home and did the squats anyway, 25 at a time. My legs should really be strong enough to really succeed in running this season.

My good news: I just paid off my November cruise! It is a 5 day to the Western Carribean and I'm so excited! We earned $50 on-board credit so this will be a debt-free vacation! emoticon

I was in a similar challenge that did 100 situps for 100 days. I hate situps. We didn't have to do them all at once, as long as by the end of each day we got in 100. I did a few at a time throughout the day. I realized I didn't hate them as much as I thought I did.

Good luck. You can do it.

Truly awesome. Those squats have a tendency to catch up on you as far as soreness but whatever you do, don't quit.

I was just looking into a cruise yesterday. Enjoy yours

Wow, amazing taking on the squat challenge! I may try to do 5 a day since my squats are poor but I know they build strength.

So glad to be back running

Wednesday, August 17, 2011

I had my first run in about a month this morning. I had took a running from vacation after some naggiong soreness in one leg but more because of the sun and heat when our running group meets at 6 p.m. I've been taking a fat burning dance aerobics at 7:30 in a pavillion at our waterfront park. Enjoying it so much I go one hour in the evening and add another hour in the mornings when I'm off work.

So I signed up for a 5k race on September 10 and started back training this morning. It's a small local race and I also signed up for SparkPeople's virtual race. I'm using the Jeff Galloway 5K iPhone app. I had to quit running and start back walking at mile 2.5 when I ran out of steam (forgot to fuel before my run). Looking forward to my first 5K of the season.

Back to exercising on purpose

Tuesday, July 26, 2011

Today, I returned to exercise on purpose. Sure I had been doing lots of activities like moving boxes, moving furniture, ripping up carpet, digging holes and planting flowers and trees, a quick walk around the block every now and then. I've also done ten-minute bursts of strength training with bands, weights and lots of leg stretches. I even found a jump rope while moving boxes and plan to use it soon. But, because of an intense pain in the back of one of my thighs I skipped running group and waterfront aerobics class for a week and a half. All good now!

Today I won 500 bonus sparkgoodie points and brought myself an exercise bike - the one thing I don't have in my workout studio!

Enjoy that exercise bike!! That is a great investment, especially when you have back trouble. My niece has her PhD in physical therapy and highly recommends an exercise bike. emoticon

Another 5K missed because of a storm yesterday

Wednesday, July 06, 2011

I had an evening 5K scheduled at the gym my running training group meets at. The 5ks are held once a month and this year are separate from the running group. I get there and it's already lightening. A storm is coming. My coach says he's letting us go inside the gym to run on the treadmill, elliptical or some other cardio. He doesn't let us run when it is lightening. But the 5K runners are going to run. Knowing it was going to storm, I elected to go with my running group. Apparently no one else from my group signed up and paid for the 5K series.

I'm on the treadmill and see it starts to pour down outside. I looked at the clock and it's exactly start time for the race. I didn't rain long, only about 15 minutes. So I do 20 minutes on the treadmill (I like mine at home better), another 25 minutes on the elliptical, and another ten minutes on what I think was a skiing machine. I had cranked up the resistance on it and my legs tired real fast on it.

After an hour in the gym, I stopped home for a few minutes and headed to my beachside aerobics class. We had quite a workout for an hour. Worn out, I headed home.

Today, no running but I did do my dance aerobics class for an hour.

Today's run and another green smoothie

Sunday, July 03, 2011

This morning I went to my running group and did a 4.25 mile run. I actually got up at 5:15 and went out about an hour later to beat the heat. They are not actually scheduled to leave until 7.

This has been a great week for me. I went to my one-hour Xtreme Fat Destroying Workout on the beach three times this week, including after an hour of track workouts on Thursday. We did some hurdles at our track workout - that was different and unexpected but I loved it.

I've done another week of green smoothies, four times this week. One day I actually at raw food all day. I'm so glad I started this during the summer because I don't think I would like cold food all day the winter. Maybe by this winter my body will be used to it. I think when the weather gets cooler I will start trying to experiment with oatmeal to try to like it more. I'm also thinking of trying to incorporate a little at a time into my smoothies. Baby steps. Right now my whole grains include brown rice and whole grain bread but I want more variety.

Here is one day of my green smoothie

I didn't take a picture but it was a light green smoothie. The ingredients were:

1. Half cup orange juice.
2. Baby collard greens (there were actually about ten leaves)
3. One salad cucumber.
4. About 1/2 cup green grapes (these were the larger firmer ones and were not very sweet and I didn't like eating them by themselves).
5. Three large stalks celery.
6. Base fruit - banana.
7. About 1/4 cup fresh pineapple.
8. About 1/8 cup raspberries (they were very ripe so I threw them to "get rid of")
9. 12 ounce cup of crushed ice and a scoop of cold milled flax seed.

I had a large cup left over and shared some of this with my sister and nephew who came for a short visit, then had the remainder for lunch.

What it tasted like: Very good. I tasted first pineapple, secondary banana, and definitely celery. I will not use as much celery next time.

DH and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary on July 1st. We usually do a cookout but this year we decided to celebrate by ourselves with dinner. We'll do a healthy cookout for our birthdays in August.
