Won't let the rain stop me

Tuesday, June 28, 2011

The day started out good for me. I got up early and out the door to work on my cardio by tackling a steep hill. This was about my fourth try and it is getting easier every time.

This afternoon the rain poured down just as I was getting ready for group running. It rained so hard my street was flooding. I got so restless because I just wanted to get outside.

The rain slacked up but it was time for running to be over. I seriously doubt if anyone showed up because of the monsoon like rain. I decided to go to the grocery store to pick up some fresh fruit and veggies that were on sale. Then I thought about my group exercise down at the beach. It is held under shelter so I drove down there and sure enough the instructor was there. In total only four of us showed up because of the rain. We did over an hour of dance aerobics and that made everything good with me. I still felt sore, though, from my 5 mile run on Sunday.

Got my shopping done afterwards and now I'm all good.

My breakfast smoothie

Friday, June 24, 2011

Thought I'd share a couple pics of my breakfast smoothie. It changes a little every day (today I added the salad leftover from last night). I also grow pineapples but they have not matured yet so I used canned.

My ingredients are as follows: 4 ounces orange juice to start then water added as needed, pineapple slice, 1/2 banana, baby cucumber unpeeled, baby collard greens - all the ingredients were set in the freezer about an hour to start the chill.

I added the greens last after the other ingredients were mixed and also added a cup of crushed ice.

Thanks for your interest. It mostly tasted like pineapple, even with just one slice. It was quite sweet tasting.

Veggies, from garden to blender or pot

Thursday, June 09, 2011

Finally, it rained. We collect rain water for the vegetables.

Every day this week I have had fresh vegetables from the garden. Loads of cherry tomatoes, patio tomatoes, some other tomatoes from mom's garden, bell peppers, cucumbers, and collards. And every other day I have had a green smoothie with at least two of those vegetables. Sorry no pics (too dark out right now). I'll try to post pics next time.

This is my first year at vegetables. In the past I have had just fruit. Now I get to use my frozen fruit in my smoothies along with some fresh veggies. Ummmm.

I've never been in a good position to have a garden, but I keep swearing that I will "someday"! Congrats on the homegrown goodness!

There's nothing quite like growing your own! It tastes so much better fresh from your own garden!...

I envy you! I live in the city, and the only place I could put a garden is my patio--which is in perpetual shade! LOL

Besides, it is not enclosed, faces the parking lot where all the children next door play... I don't think any kind of plant would last long out there!

There is a local farmer's market, though... and you're right. Yumm...! LOL

Back from another morning run

Sunday, May 29, 2011

Back from another run. This started at 7:00 a.m. but I started out even earlier since I forgot my sunblock. It was just a 5K practice run with my running group. I did run/walk intervals with a running buddy. It was a nice run, hot of course, and first time I drank everything out my fuel bottles.

Now to enjoy the weekend....

What a GREAT start to the day! I envy you--I had surgery and I'm still 9 days away from being able to do more than walk for my workouts!

Not that I'm a runner, even on a GOOD day! LOL

Do an extra lap for me? I'll pretend...

Second 5K today

Saturday, May 28, 2011

I did my second 5K triflorida.com/Events/LakeLouisa5K/t

We started at 7:30. I was thinking it would be mostly all shade since it was in a state park. It wasn't. The sun was blaring but I endured. We had a great time and I'm looking forward to the next race.
