I just ran my first official 5K this month and have registered for six more!
I heard these races are addicting!
Actually, the first five are with my running group. We did a couple of these last fall too. Instead of doing our run that day, we just did the 5K with the registered runners. Only this year we had to pay a small amount for all five races, no T-shirt, but we get chip timing! This, to me makes it official! It felt so strange last year when we were given a popsicle stick at the end of the race and told to write our time on that. That just didn't seem like a race to me.
The other race I signed up for is a charity race, Friends of Lake Louisa State Park. This is a beautiful area, and only one of a few places in our town with public swimming. We only went to the Park once a few years ago and this is a great time to revisit, with a race.
Finally, I found a race to satisfy my goal for my first half marathon. This race is brand new for the area as of today. It is on February 12, 2012, Rock and Roll Saint Peterburg! Sounds like so much fun and will be the second anniversary of my running! I'm so excited and looking forward to Rock and Roll!

On my Friday blog, I mentioned I had a fun weekend planned watching a triathalon/duathalon/5k race and then hit up a couple health fairs in town this weekend. Well instead, we went out of town to help SIL move. When I got there I thought "wow, three flights of outside stairs and no elevators!" Now, I'm not used to stairs, in my daily life I do not encounter a single stair. Not that I don't want to but I live in a ranch style one story house and I also work at home. But it wasn't bad, up and down the stairs with boxes, furniture. "Thank goodness for SP cardio and strength training and my running training." My cardio, legs and arms were up for the challenge. The new place wasn't far at all, about two miles, and only one story. I made one trip with my vehicle full.
Back at the old place, after about another hour of packing and moving and lugging downstairs, DH and BIL made another trip to new house. Then, about 20 minutes after they leave, we get a call to come toward the new house. I said "wait, lets grab a few things to move since my SUV is empty". I'm driving and they keep calling for us to hurry, there is an emergency. Finally, they tell us my DH has had an accident and is in the ambulance. Oh my! (not exactly what I said). So we get there and they let me in the ambulance. DH is alert and very talkative, just in pain and bruised up. Then he tells me he fell from the back of a pickup while holding onto something that was falling off. !!##??!!! etc!!! So, we spent 4 hours at a ER unfamiliar to me.
I'm happy to report DH is well, still bruised and sore but fortunate to be all in one piece. He is being a champ, walking around and moving the sore parts so they won't freeze up. Hopefully, he has learned his lesson to not be so stupid next time!
