My kumquat harvest.

Friday, December 17, 2010

I went to check on my yard recently after a cold spell. Here are a few pictures of my kumquat tree with almost fully ripe fruit.

My mom loves these so I picked a bucket of the ripe ones for her after I took the pictures. I also shared with some friends. I picked some for myself also, mostly for decorations.

We had a hard freeze a couple days in a row this week so I'm not sure what shape my fruit is in now. I'll have to research this weekend.

Impressive looking trees. I don't have those but do have two orange trees that produce the sweetest, juiciest oranges you are likely to ever taste. -- Lou

My magical day:

Saturday, December 04, 2010

Yesterday we went to Disney to enjoy a day of magic. We survived the day with only about $20 out of pocket - parking and a refrigerator magnet. First, I gave DH a ticket I won during a travel agent convention about 5 years ago. Next, my ticket was from volunteer service I did back in February to earn a free day at Disney.

The weather was a little cool in the morning but once the sun burned the chill off it turned into a beautiful day. I carried my pedometer which recorded 2.21 miles. The highlights of the day: I was presented with an honorary button for volunteering. I was thanked for volunteering by a complete stranger in line. The filming of the Christmas parade.

The magnet says Walt Disney World. I try to pick a magnet up whenever I go to a new place to visit (it was new to me since I haven't been in over 30 years).

Happy Monday SparkFriends, just an update.

Monday, November 15, 2010

Good morning. I can't believe it has been a month since I last blogged. I credit that to the very busy times I have had at work.

I usually have a few minutes in the morning that I run out of work before being bombarded again.

I've also been using the time to get in a few minutes of exercise, stretching mostly but also some weight lifting and other strengthening exercises. I'm just loving my figure 8 expander.
emoticon emoticon

Still training with my running team. It's a little spooky sometimes because it's dark now at 6 pm when we meet. Always afraid I'll run into someone on track nights. We have a new route scheduled this week so hopefully it will be lit. I love the early Sunday morning runs. Those are our long runs and now we're up to 7-1/2 miles.
emoticon emoticon

Lately the only times I've been going to my gym was to my running group which is separate so I cancelled my gym membership and plan to stay in the running group and re-register for it after the end of year break.

I'm building my own home workout studio
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon (what is that last item? I was looking for a balance board, LOL)

I feel a great day and great week coming on. Keep Sparking my friends!

Motivations for life

Friday, October 15, 2010

This is not mine! You may even have seen it before. I'm posting it to save to my favorites and to share with you. Well worth reading, rereading, and trying to remember the ones that seem important to you. . .

40 Tips for Better Life:

1. Take a 10-30 minute walk every day. And while you walk, smile. It is the ultimate anti-depressant.

2. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day.

3. Buy a DVR, record your late night shows and get more sleep.

4. When you wake up in the morning complete the following statement, 'My purpose is to __________ today.'

5. Live with the 3 E's -- Energy, Enthusiasm, and Empathy.

6. Play more games and read more books than you did last year.

7. Make time to relax every day. That provides us with daily fuel for our busy lives.

8. Spend time with people over the age of 70 and under the age of 6.

9. Dream more while you are awake.

10. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is manufactured in plants.

11. Drink green tea and plenty of water. Eat blueberries, wild Alaskan salmon, broccoli, almonds & walnuts.

12. Try to make at least three people smile each day.

13. Clear clutter from your house, your car, your desk and let new and flowing energy into your life.

14. Don't waste your precious energy on gossip, issues of the past, negative thoughts or things you cannot control. Instead, invest your energy in the positive present moment.

15. Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algebra class, but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime.

16. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a college kid with a maxed out charge card.

17. Smile and laugh more. It will keep the NEGATIVE BLUES away.

18. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

19. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

20. Don't take yourself so seriously.

21. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

22. Make peace with your past so it won't spoil the present.

23. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

24. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.

25. Frame every so-called disaster with these words: 'In five years, will this matter?'

26. Forgive everyone for everything.

27. What other people think of you is none of your business.

28. Enjoy the ride. Remember this is not Disney World and you certainly don't want a fast pass. You only have one ride through life so make the most of it.

29. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

30. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will. Stay in touch.

31. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.

32. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

33. The best is yet to come.

34. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up. You are too blessed to be stressed!

35. Do the right thing!

36. Call your family often. (Or text/email them to no end!!!)

37. Each night before you go to bed complete the following statements: I am thankful for __________. Today I accomplished _________.

38. TAKE time each morning to talk with GOD, pray over your family and friends, ask GOD what you can do for Him today.

39. REMEMBER GOD is the Creator of the Universe and has a Plan for Your Life.

40. SING and DANCE often.
