Just Blogging to Blog

Monday, July 08, 2013

Yes, what to blog about when we get points if we blog about anything?

Today was a good day, no rain, although I suppose we could have used it. We took my MIL to get her blood work and stopped at the book store to pick up a couple books in the Mitford series.

Anyone ever read any of those books? I'm on the first book, 'At Home in Mitford'. I think the lead character is Catholic, but he talks of marriage. He isn't married in the book. Small town, where everyone knows everyone. I'd like that. Nice calm neighborhood. Reminds me of Mayberry.

That would make a fun story to write, with various characters, living in a small town of....Clancieville (okay, I shouldn't name it after my dog) how about Summermoor, Springdale, (where did Archie and Jughead live?), or maybe a name like Bristolmoor, WinnDixieville (ooo, love their baked beans, slurp), Merlin Mill run, Livermoor (I lived in Liverpool),
Mt. Rushmore......no, wait, that is taken. Mt. Sandwich. Now I'm just hungry.

need to have a bakery, mercantile, ( just what is a mercantile, a general store?), church, corner deli, repair shop, black smith....oh, how old is this town?? How about a flower shop.

This is like having a boring long day and what goes through your mind. LOL

Anyhow, now you know I've gone over the bend so will sign off now.

That is an idea Nell. I have ideas for people and businesses, just need a storyline. LOL Maybe if I have time, I'll work up something.

Whoa - I agree - for not having something to write about you did a pretty fine job emoticon

I think you need to write that story. You could write it in installments that you post to the blog - then you get to tap into your creative side AND get your SP points for blogging!

I got several of those books for my Mom- she loves that series. And I got the cookbook and other "extra" books for her too. Check Amazon- that's where I got all of hers.

You crack me up, Courti! I love the small town thing- that's what we should do with Westward Ho! They need to settle and set up small town life. emoticon

I've never heard of them. I typically read crime drama, which explains why I don't like going out of my house. emoticon
I hear ya about blogging to get the points. Sometimes you just don't have anything to say.

OOooo, I neveer thought to name the town after an ancestor....TenEyck Valley. I have a lot of intereting names I've come across in my family tree, Keziah (found that in the Bible too), Leander, Baltzer, Baron. Hmmm, Baronville.

I've read the Mitford series. They used to have a cookbook out, too, but I'm not sure if it is still available.

I too write. Most of my stories are based on people I know or events in my life only as fiction. I named the town after one of ancestor's last name. It is fun to have characters all from the same town in each story. I think I'll move my characters in my next story to the area where I have lived for over 20 years.

For thinking you had nothing to write for a blog, you've done a terrific job! Thanks for sharing!!

Be Happy with What we have

Sunday, July 07, 2013

"I thank God for my handicaps, for through them I have found myself, my work and my God." Helen Keller

"If I regarded my life from the point of view of the pessimist, I should be undone. I should seek in vain for the light that does not visit my eyes and the music that does not ring in my ears. I should beg night and day and never be satisfied. I should sit apart in awful solitude, a prey to fear and despair. But since I consider it a duty to myself and to others to be happy, I escape a misery worse than any physical deprivation." –
Helen Keller

I was slightly brain damaged at birth, and I want people like me to see that they shouldn't let a disability get in the way. I want to raise awareness - I want to turn my disability into ability.
Susan Boyle

I am careful not to confuse excellence with perfection. Excellence, I can reach for; perfection is God's business.
Michael J. Fox

Just because a man lacks the use of his eyes doesn't mean he lacks vision.
Stevie Wonder

I think a hero is an ordinary individual who finds strength to persevere and endure in spite
of overwhelming obstacles.
Christopher Reeve

"It is a waste of time to be angry about my disability. One has to get on with life and I haven't done badly. People won't have time for you if you are always angry or complaining." –
Stephen Hawking

"It was ability that mattered, not disability, which is a word I'm not crazy about using." -
Marlee Matlin

"Do not worry about your problems with mathematics, I assure you mine are far greater." - Albert Einstein ..........was he talking to me?

•"I choose not to place "DIS", in my ability."
•"Limitations only go so far."

Great quotes - I do my best to be positive, but it's good to read these to just know that no matter what my challenges I think I have, I actually lead a pretty sweet life.

Thanks for the reminder to be thankful for what we've got!

Independence Day

Tuesday, July 02, 2013

The Declaration of Independence is a statement adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, which announced that the 13 American colonies, then at war with Great Britain, regarded themselves as independent states, and no longer a part of the British Empire. Instead they now formed a new nation—the United States of America. John Adams was a leader in pushing for independence, which was unanimously approved on July 2. A committee had already drafted the formal declaration, to be ready when congress voted on independence.

Adams persuaded the committee to select Thomas Jefferson to compose the original draft of the document, which congress would edit to produce the final version. The Declaration was ultimately a formal explanation of why Congress had voted on July 2 to declare independence from Great Britain, more than a year after the outbreak of the American Revolutionary War. The national birthday, the Independence Day is celebrated on July 4, although Adams wanted July 2.

We are definitely living in the end times and we can see all the destruction prophesied. It is a scary thought about the Canary Islands falling into the ocean; Never thought about that happening to the east coast. I too am saved.

It is thought that some said the end would be 2012 Well we still hear. Many theorist believe that in the Carney Island in Africa that a mountain side is s l o w l y sliding in the ocean but if a earth quake happens a H U G E tidal Wave could wipe off the east coast and cause much damage and death. At Yellow Stone park if an earth quake happens it would be devastating for the USA as a whole. It is scary to hear. I am in the Lord if this happens. I am saved by his glorious grace. I tell others of my faith. In the book of revelation speak of this kind of stuff. It is my daily prayer that God will keep showing his mercy and grace. The only safety is in the Lord. judgement is coming according to the scriptures and lets face it the nations as a whole are spitting in the face of God. emoticon But I am afraid for the nations and its people fore grace sake.

My husband knew the star of My Little Margie very well - he was the sound guy at her church and helped her with her microphone for special events. We all met her, and we exchanged Christmas cards for several years. We were so sad when she passed away.
