Snacks for a picky eater??

Friday, September 21, 2012

I get the munchies through out the day but most healthy foods I ddon't care for. I did clan some grapes and ad them sitting arond for a few days, taking one or two at a time, but didn't fill the bill. Being picky stinks.

I can't do peanuts as I have a food intolerance to peanut products, which means I can eat just a little bit otherwise I have problems. You know, you have to look out for those 'made on machinery that process peanuts' or 'may contian tree nuts'.

I wish i liked more freggies. For a picky eater, we can't just 'try it you might like it'. some foods we haave a mind set against and just have to be the right time to try it and if it looks ugly....forget it....shrimp....ugh!

I do like bananas, apples, but seems ike they go bad before i get around to eatng them. When we have a freggie challenge, I do better eating them, though.

So, of coure if there is junk food around, it is more tempting before thinking freggies.

So frustrating.

I'm quite picky too but I've gotten much better over the years by trying new things. Some stuff I didn't like at first but then had it a different way and I liked it. Persevere with foods and keep trying new things. You'll be surprised how your tastes change.

I found a great new recipe for breakfast or snacks - Banana Baked Oatmeal. I'll PM it to you. Really tasty snack, kind of like a soft granola bar.

How about fresh raspberries or blackberries? I know you pay a premium, but if you eat them it's worth the $

Do you like Greek yogurt? I'm obsessed with getting plain Greek yogurt, adding sugar free jello powder(raspberry is the bomb), and sticking it in the freezers for about 30 minutes.

How about apple slices with a little peanut butter (2 tbsp is more than enough for 1 apple)? It is an excellent combination of healthy fats, fiber, protein and carbs. It is very easy to make, especially if you have an apple corer/slicer. And it is filling.

I don't like cream cheese..unless it's in a cheesecake LOL. Another thing about some picky eaters, foods have to be a certain way. Apples have to be nice a crisp, but apple pie has to be tender, no crunch at all. Also, no lumps in mashed potatoes.

have you tried dried fruits and veggies? i like those as snacks at time, or just a box of raisins is good too. I have been craving for crispy bbq flavored corn ... lol maybe that is something for you. I eat often nuts for snacks but can't recommend that but the others try and see if you like that sort :) ... Another thing i like having as a snack is slice of ham on a rusk. no margarine . Its delicious.

2012 Fall 5% Challenge - Reasons I want to lose.

Wednesday, September 19, 2012

Reasons I want to lose weight/inches . What do I want to change? How do I want to look? How do I want to feel? What things will I be able to do in the future with a slimmer healthier body?

For one thingI want to lose inches everywhere, especially in my abs and hips so I can fit comfortably in my 'smalls' again. I want to look trim and toned. I will feel more confident with myself once I have the body I once had. I remember those feelings and miss them.

Ugh!.....why is it that I can have such good will power one day and the next...ziltch?

I was dong good today, until I saw the chocolate chips in the fridge. Just had to have a handful. Then when I complaining about that, DH comes over and to the cupcakes that I coverd up so not to tempt me, and he pulls off the cover to get a cupcake. He could have waited until I left.

Finally started fitting into my size 9 shorts, this rate....ugh! Don't want to think about it.

But, we can both get back on track - just do better next time, then even better, and we will both get there.

Size 9! Wow don't know if I was ever that size since being an adult. I am shooting for a size 10. I know what you mean about the chocolate. At work friday this girl brought in a bag of "pumpkin reeses cups". I admit I did eat one and then said "why the heck did I do that"?

But you just have to resolve to do better next time. I do not keep sweets around the house now except for my skinny cow bars sometimes. It is so hard to be good all the time - LOL

Leaves of Change

Make a list of 5 of things that might be holding me back from reaching my goals.

Week 1
1) a negative mind set
2) Injuries along the way
3) just too busy to exercise
4) hate freggies
5) letting others tempt me

I plan on working on doing more meaningful exercise, not just to get the minutes in, but cardio and strength to help lose these inches. Okay, that will mean to eat healthier too……oh dear. I will try to cut out so much junk fooding and maybe hold my nose to get down some veggies. I do like more fruit than veggies, though. So will try to get at least 2-freggies a day.

Ya can put a LOT of veggies in spaghetti sauce.... I throw in a half package of frozen chopped spinach. Ya never even know it's there!!!
Microwave a half cup of blueberries (with sweetener added)... serve hot over French toast (made with egg beaters!) YUM!!!

try V8's v-fusion jusices. each cup is 1 serving of fruit AND 1 serving of veggies so your getting 2 servings of freggies per glass! I don't like alot of freggies(seriously picky eater! most 4 year olds don't compare to me)

but I found I like the peach mango flavor. I like it so much that when Timmies came out with a peach mango smoothie well I tried it...but its far worse health wise(it's soooo sweet!) and cost lol.

They have a few flavors and make sure you check out the labels because the peach mango thats i think half the fat/calories/whatever is also only 1.5 servings of freggies per serving...I'll take the extra fat/calories for that extra half serving of freggies :)

Hey, I'm with you on the veggies. I keep the baby carrots in my frig and try to at them on a regular basis. It's not uncommon to snack on them while I'm getting ready for work in the am. I also like to shred carrots into anything that's saucy - spaghetti, soup, baked good batter...it's pretty easy to hide. I also found watched a woman on t.v. make a smoothie and add spinach - she swore you couldn't taste it - I'm thinking it's worth a try! Hang in there, keep eating the veggies and some day they won't be quite so bad - and this is coming from another confirmed emoticon emoticon emoticon hater!

Oh you and I can share so many of the 5 that are holding you back gal. But I do like way more veggies than you so that helps. It is the mind set, injury and lack of exercise for me.

Good old days when I was skinny

Sunday, September 02, 2012

I remember when I was at my skinniest back in early 2009, but one change in life style and it all went to pot. I ate healthier and exercises almost an hour or more a day, lots of cardio.
It is hard to get back to a routine once yu've been away from it. I feel the fat and see the extra inches. Ugh!
I just can't get my motivation back. I do what I can on challenges, but not a lot of extra. Clothes fit tight, although I am fitting into my favorite shorts.
Now with certain injuries I can't do arm exercises like I used to.

I think I did a blog on this before...gee, not much better now am I and with a bad memory. haha

Oh sweetie I so know where your coming from. But you can only do your best and if it is not what it use to be then that is just the way it is for now. Don't beat yourself up though or it will only get worse. Just take it one day at a time, one exercise at a time and eventually you will see your motivation increase with your health.

We have all been there and done that and so we cannot do it right now but believe in yourself Courti and you will eventually get back to where you were and want to be.

I believe in you.

I have an injured wrist that seriously shook up my workouts. I stopped training for almost 6 months bc I thought, "how can i train wo putting weight on my wrist?" I became extremely frustrated that I was gaining weight and it was my injury's fault. But then I got creative. I can still do cardio and situps. I can still work my legs, and if I'm careful about it I can even do a few pushups (on my knees). I've been pushing myself for almost a month now, and although it's still frustrating that I can't train the way I *want* to train, I'm still seeing results bc I'm doing *something*. It can be really hard to pull yourself up (took me 6 months) but once you do it quickly becomes worth it. Let me know if you need support.

Someone told me this before when i kept looking at my "skinny" past, and that was like 8 years ago, Now i turned it around saying thats gone, thats the past, and moving on to the future where i believe i be that skinny girl once more. And you should too :)

Courti, in 2005-6 I lost 30 pounds and maintained it for 18 months. I know exactly how I did it, yet I cannot seem to do it now. So, when I am feeling like you are, I say to myself, "At least I am on SP, trying to get healthier, and not getting worse." We will both find our way "back" to where we want to be. Yes, it is frustrating, but it is worth it. Big hugs!
